My name is He Jiong, and I’m quite the unfortunate soul.
I work at a Tourism Company, and just when the pandemic hit, the company went bankrupt.
As a Little Supervisor, I haven’t received my salary and am buried in debt.
Just when things couldn’t get any worse, I found myself in a tight spot.
I desperately needed to find a job to pay off my debts.
However, with the pandemic causing widespread panic, most companies were laying off employees, and no one was willing to hire newcomers.
By chance, while scrolling through my social media feed, I came across a recruitment notice from an Agency looking for good swimmers to help with their operations.
The most appealing part was that they provided meals and accommodation, along with a daily wage of eight hundred.
In these times, not only would people jump at the chance to help out, but even fishing in the river for that amount would attract a crowd.
As a former employee of the Tourism Company, I can confidently say that I’m quite the swimmer.
During my time as a tour guide, I had to cater to tourists who couldn’t swim. Whether it was dog paddling, breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke, or butterfly stroke,
I could demonstrate them all as long as the tourists knew a bit about swimming.
I even knew how to dive because there was a Diving Platform at the scenic area. Whenever the tourists cheered me on,
I would leap from the high platform to perform dives. Although it was just simple straight dives into the water, it was enough to amaze the tourists.
"Yes, it's you!"
The next day, I followed the Agent to a small two-story building in the countryside.
In addition to me, there were several other applicants.
The Agent introduced us to an unfamiliar old man.
"Old Yu, these are the people I found online for the job."
The old man glanced at us and frowned slightly. "Are they all novices?"
The Agent nodded and bowed slightly. "There are fewer people in this line of work now; these are the ones willing to endure hardship."
The old man seemed dissatisfied.
"You're dismissed," he waved his hand at the Agent.
The Agent smiled ingratiatingly. "Why not take another look? These folks are all strong and capable."
"Hmph!" The old man snorted dismissively, "They're all just showpieces!"
Upon hearing this, everyone immediately protested, insisting they had their own strengths.
Finally, the old man sighed. "Well, forget it. I'm getting old; I won't be able to do this for many more years."
"Find someone willing to endure hardship and pass on the skills," he said.
After surveying the crowd, he pointed at me. "You, come here."
"What’s your name?"
"He Jiong."
The old man squinted at me. "You belong to the Water element!"
"Yes," I replied, not quite understanding.
"Can you swim?"
"Yes," I recalled my days as a tour guide when I often swam.
The old man nodded. "Do you know what we do?"
I shook my head, indicating I didn't know.
He took a puff from his cigarette. "We are called Grave Robbers."
I was taken aback by that name.
In my mind, Grave Robbers seemed to be those who searched in reservoirs, rivers, and lakes for bodies that had drowned.
I also heard that they have some special abilities, such as burial practices and feng shui.
But I wasn't quite sure what those were.
The old man noticed my hesitation and said, "If you don't want to do this job, you can leave."
I glanced at the other applicants, all of whom looked eager, and quickly replied, "I'm willing!"
The old man nodded. "Good! Then you can stay." He then turned to the Agent and said, "Take the others away."
After saying that, he pulled out two thousand yuan from his pocket and handed it to the Agent.
The Agent accepted the money with a smile and took the others away.
I was led into the house by Old Yu.
The interior was clean and tidy, with an incense burner on the table holding three sticks of incense, filling the room with a faint scent of smoke.
Old Yu carefully examined my face and then asked me to extend my hand for him to see.
"Indeed, you belong to the Water element in the five elements and are classified as a Yin-Fated Person!" Old Yu said.
"What is a Yin-Fated Person?" I asked in confusion.
