The two of them got into the car, and Jiang Yiming started the engine, driving towards home.
Inside the car, the atmosphere was somewhat silent. Xu Qing leaned against the window, gazing at the scenery outside, her mind swirling with thoughts.
From time to time, Jiang Yiming glanced at Xu Qing, his eyes revealing a hint of concern.
After a while, Jiang Yiming broke the silence and said, “Xu Qing, I’m sorry.”
Xu Qing turned her head to look at Jiang Yiming, surprise flickering in her eyes. She hadn’t expected him to apologize so suddenly.

Xu Qing looked at Jiang Yiming, warmth flooding her heart. She sighed softly and said, “Jiang Yiming, I know you don’t love me. I also understand that you married me just to silence your family. But for these three years, I’ve really tried hard to get into your heart and make you love me. However, I’ve realized that I’m truly exhausted.”
Listening to Xu Qing’s words, a wave of guilt washed over Jiang Yiming. He took Xu Qing’s hand and said, “Xu Qing, I know I was wrong. I used to think that I loved Lu Man, but today I realized that you’ve already occupied a place in my heart. I don’t want to lose you anymore. Xu Qing, give me a chance to love you properly, okay?”
Xu Qing looked at Jiang Yiming, tears glistening in her eyes.
She nodded slightly and said, “Alright, Jiang Yiming, I’ll give you a chance. But you must remember, if you hurt me again, I truly won’t forgive you.”
Jiang Yiming nodded and replied, “I remember, Xu Qing. I promise that from now on, I won’t let you suffer any harm.”
The two exchanged smiles, and the atmosphere in the car became warm and inviting. Jiang Yiming held Xu Qing’s hand tightly as he continued driving towards home.
Meanwhile, Xu Qing felt filled with anticipation for their future together, hoping for a happy and fulfilling life ahead.
The car door slammed shut with a dull thud as Jiang Yiming hurriedly made his way into the hospital, guided by his assistant.
Behind him, camera flashes flickered like lightning as reporters, alerted by the commotion, were blocked by security at the entrance. Their urgent questions echoed, but all were muffled beyond the hospital doors.
Lu Man had been in the entertainment industry for four or five years, and under Jiang Yiming's careful arrangements, she had never suffered any injuries during filming.
But this time, something serious had happened. Jiang Yiming felt a deep sense of regret for not being able to protect her. The company intended to keep the incident under wraps, so there were not many crew members entering the hospital, resulting in a chaotic scene.
Meng Fan was busy explaining the situation to the representative sent by the company: the technician responsible for hanging Wiya had made a mistake due to drinking, nearly causing a disaster. He was now detained by the police, awaiting further action.
Lu Man was still in the emergency room undergoing treatment, and Jiang Yiming stood anxiously outside, unable to see what was happening inside. He tugged at his tie in frustration and turned around to see Xu Qing leaning against a stark white wall, standing alone. Her head was lowered as if she were lost in thought; her costume was slightly disheveled, but thankfully she appeared unharmed.
Jiang Yiming's expression darkened instantly as he strode over and grabbed Xu Qing's wrist forcefully. Xu Qing looked up in surprise.
“It’s you! You did this on purpose! You planned it all out to harm Lu Man, didn’t you? Because of what I said to you yesterday, you wanted to take this chance to ruin her, right?”
Jiang Yiming’s tone was aggressive, his anger burning like fire in his eyes, his voice carrying a chill colder than midwinter.
Due to their height difference, Jiang Yiming’s fury created an overwhelming pressure on Xu Qing. His grip tightened around her wrist, almost crushing it.
Xu Qing stopped struggling and replied with a bitter smile, “If I say something you don’t believe, you won’t trust me anyway.” In Jiang Yiming's mind, she had already been labeled as a scheming and deeply calculating rival.
What saddened Xu Qing even more was that Jiang Yiming didn’t even want to investigate the truth of the matter; he didn’t give her a chance to explain before assuming that Lu Man’s accident was related to her.
“Why aren’t you the one lying inside? Why don’t you just die?” Jiang Yiming shouted in rage, his words spilling out uncontrollably. Xu Qing’s calm demeanor completely shattered his composure.
Xu Qing was stunned, staring blankly at Jiang Yiming, seemingly unable to believe that the words just spoken had come from him.
A look of bewilderment flashed across her delicate face, and her clear eyes reflected a myriad of emotions, which ultimately settled into a calm lake of tranquility. She lowered her eyelids, trying to conceal her inner turmoil, but the lingering sadness was hard to hide.
Xu Qing's silence, coupled with the probing gazes around them, only heightened Jiang Yiming's agitation. "Stop pretending. I won't fall for your tricks again."
Yet in the next moment, Jiang Yiming saw Xu Qing lift her head, a bitter smile gracing her lips. "I'm sorry. It's not me lying inside there who has disappointed you."
Jiang Yiming's face was undeniably handsome, but at this moment it was etched with anger and heartache. The heartache stemmed from the pain Lu Man had suffered, while the anger arose from his doubts about Xu Qing.
As Xu Qing looked at this familiar yet unfamiliar Jiang Yiming, she suddenly recalled a line from the character she portrayed—why? Why could she win his willing submission without any means? Why did she, despite all her schemes, fail to earn even a bit of his attention?
It turned out that she liked this script not because of its captivating plot, but because the sister in the story was just like her—yearning for something unattainable.
"He's out! The doctor is out!" A frantic shout broke the tense atmosphere between them.
Jiang Yiming immediately released Xu Qing's hand and turned to meet Lu Man's doctor, not looking back as if he were fleeing from something.
If he had turned around, just for a moment, he would have seen Xu Qing intently watching his retreating figure until it gradually blurred and disappeared from view. She remained standing there for a long time, unwilling to leave.
Jiang Yiming would never know that this was Xu Qing's last moment of hope—hoping he would turn back and give her the courage to continue moving forward. But he didn’t; he never saw the way she waited for him.
