In a desperate bid for love, the woman who had exhausted all means was ultimately pierced through the chest by the very man she cherished the most. 0

It was still in the peach orchard where they first met, standing beneath the fluttering peach blossoms, her lips stained red with blood as she softly murmured, “Why do I like you so much? You treat me so poorly.” 0

The camera slowly zoomed in, finally focusing on her face, magnifying the sorrow and heartbreak hidden within her dark pupils. 0

At that moment, Jiang Yiming froze. It was just a scene from a movie, yet it twisted his heart with pain. 0

He recalled the day Lu Man had her accident, when Xu Qing, lying in the hospital, had said with a faint smile, “I’m sorry it’s not me in there disappointing you.” Her expression had been similar—distant and numb, with a smile on her lips but confusion in her eyes. 0

It turned out she hadn’t been acting; she truly forgot how to express pain. 0

“How is Xu Qing? How is she?” Jiang Yiming himself didn’t realize how anxious and urgent his voice sounded, even carrying a hint of tears. He was drenched in sweat, completely stripped of his usual composure. 0

Meng Fan, however, seemed oblivious to his distress, lost in some kind of nostalgia as he continued, “This morning I…” 0

“They were still on the phone. She laughed happily, saying she felt sorry for me and agreed to give me a chance to love her. But she was more pitiful than I was because Jiang Yiming never gave her even half a chance.” 0

Meng Fan’s tone suddenly shifted, his expression turning fierce. “She could have lived so much better if it weren’t for you! You all ruined her!” 0

The harm inflicted by words can sometimes cut deeper than bullets or blades, especially considering that Jiang Yiming had once told Xu Qing to go die. 0

Perhaps at that moment, Xu Qing had been waiting expectantly for his comfort and praise, only to be met with his harsh accusations. 0

It felt as if that sword had stabbed directly into Jiang Yiming’s chest; otherwise, how could he be in so much pain that breathing became difficult and all he could do was gasp for air? 0

Meng Fan crouched in the bustling corridor, his hands tightly covering his face, shoulders trembling slightly as he gradually broke down in tears. "She’s gone, without even a word to say! Are you satisfied now?! You can’t hurt her anymore!" 0

Jiang Yiming felt darkness closing in, his legs turning to jelly. He summoned all his strength just to keep himself upright. Turning around, he staggered quickly toward the other end of the corridor. 0

While searching for Xu Qing's hospital room, Jiang Yiming received a call from Lu Man. He only uttered a single sentence before hanging up amidst Lu Man's frantic questions. "How terrifying it is, my heart was given to someone else, and I didn’t even know." 0

Jiang Yiming's hands trembled uncontrollably as he fumbled with the keys, unable to insert them into the lock. After finally getting the key into the ignition, the car refused to start. 0

The rain continued to pour, large droplets hammering against the car window with a dull thud. Without thinking much, Jiang Yiming dashed into the rain, standing in the middle of the road trying to flag down a car. But this was the outskirts; in such terrible weather, there were no vehicles in sight. 0

The rain fell steadily, and the long road seemed endless. Gritting his teeth, Jiang Yiming began to run through the downpour. His mind was blank, filled only with an overwhelming fear that surpassed even the moment when Lu Man had been in danger. 0

By the time Jiang Yiming arrived at the Emergency Room where Xu Qing was being treated, over an hour had passed. Meng Fan leaned against the outer wall with vacant eyes, staring blankly at the ceiling as if his soul had been drained away. 0

"What... happened to her?" Jiang Yiming asked cautiously, his voice trembling slightly. 0

"The sound of the rain was too loud; she couldn’t hear anything with her left ear—nothing at all—so she didn’t hear them calling her to run... Her body is filled with tubes; she couldn’t even scream from the pain..." Meng Fan spoke without looking at him, muttering to himself. 0

"Wasn’t her ear supposed to be fine? How could she not hear?" Jiang Yiming rushed forward and grabbed Meng Fan by the collar, his eyes bloodshot. 0

Only then did Meng Fan sluggishly turn his gaze toward him, once praised by the media for his charming smile now pale and bleak. "When she speaks one truth, you doubt her ten times; when she tells one lie, you believe it without hesitation. Ha ha, how could that be good? Her eardrum is ruptured—how could that be good?" 0

Jiang Yiming froze abruptly, shock written all over his face. "What did you say?" 0

“She said she wasn’t saving Lu Man; she was saving Jiang Yiming’s happiness. But that fool even sacrificed one of his ears for it.” Meng Fan’s face was a mix of pity and heartache. 0

Jiang Yiming slowly walked into the hospital room. Xu Qing lay quietly on the white sheets, her exposed skin marked with various wounds. She had changed into the cleanest clothes, her hair neatly arranged, and her beautiful face looked serene and tranquil under the light, resembling the softest white jade. 0

Jiang Yiming approached the bedside, recalling their wedding night when they lay on the same bed separated by a blanket. He had turned his back to her, pretending to be asleep, ignoring her tentative calls of his name from behind. She called out several times, which only annoyed him. 0

He feigned turning over and slapped Xu Qing’s face lightly. When he heard her exclaim “Ouch” and mutter “Bastard,” he felt an inexplicable sense of satisfaction. 0

The moonlight was bright. As he drifted into a hazy sleep, he heard her persistently whispering, “Jiang Yiming, you like me, don’t you? You like me.” Her voice was like a spell; the more she said it, the more it seemed he would actually come to like her. 0

“Dreaming,” he remembered scoffing at her then, watching her eyes widen in panic. 0

Xu Qing, open your eyes and see; the spell you cast has come true. 0

Yet she remained quietly lying there, offering no response. 0

Jiang Yiming stepped closer and gently took Xu Qing’s hand, pressing it against his forehead, remaining still for a long time as if time had frozen in that moment. 0

The rain had stopped, and the clouds were light and airy. In the hospital corridor, Meng Fan gazed at the sky, softly murmuring with a tender expression, “Don’t be afraid; I will stay with you, always.” 0

In this world, it has always been this way—some hurt others, some betray trust, yet there are also those who stand by you through thick and thin, sharing life and death together. 0
