Tales of the Spirit Realm attracts countless players with its highly free exploration, exquisite combat system, and complex, vast worldview. I am neither a master gamer nor a pay-to-win warrior; my ID is "Star Sinking Moon."
One day, I was crouched in a corner of the main city, Liuli City, tinkering with a new mechanism I had just developed—the Misty Butterfly Formation. This is a trigger-based trap that appears as a small energy butterfly emitting a faint glow. When an enemy approaches, it explodes instantly, causing area-wide slow and confusion effects—potentially lifesaving in critical moments. Unfortunately, the materials are costly, and the success rate is unstable. After several attempts, I could visibly see my rare ores and herbs dwindling in my inventory.
"Failure, failure, failure again..." I sighed as I glanced at the cold system notifications in the chat box.
My roommate, Su Qi, chimed in excitedly from nearby, "Wanxing! Check the world channel! Yi Jian Han just broke the fastest completion record for the Fallen Dragon Abyss Dungeon! Oh my god, fifteen minutes! Is he even human?"
Yi Jian Han... This ID is almost legendary in Tales of the Spirit Realm. He is widely recognized as the top player on the server, a swordsman known as Tian Ce. His skills are sharp, and his awareness is top-notch; he consistently dominates the arena and various Dungeon leaderboards. Rumor has it that he’s also a prominent figure in real life, but no one knows exactly who he is. He keeps a low profile and never engages in gossip; aside from occasionally teaming up for Dungeons or battlegrounds, he’s rarely seen. For casual players like me, he feels like a legend existing in another dimension.
"Oh, impressive," I replied casually while continuing to focus on my Misty Butterfly Formation.
"Oh what? That’s Yi Jian Han!" Su Qi exclaimed in exasperation. "How can you not be interested in these top players? You’re always fiddling with your scrap metal."
"Scrap metal can protect me," I retorted. "Besides, this is the essence of Mo Family Mechanism Technique."
"Come on," Su Qi scoffed. "Hurry up and put away your 'scrap metal.' The guild event is about to start! Tonight we’re tackling the newly released team Dungeon Mirage City. It’s said to be extremely difficult, and they specifically want you as the chief Mo Family Mechanic and healer!"
With a resigned sigh, I stored away my experimental items and joined the team channel for our guild, Yue Man Xi Lou.
Yue Man Xi Lou was a small guild formed by several classmates from my department. The guild leader is my classmate and friend Zhao Qian, whose ID is Yuexia Duzhuo. True to his name, he has a gentle personality and decent skills; his organizational abilities are commendable as well—he manages the guild efficiently. Although it’s just a medium-sized guild, the atmosphere is great and everyone enjoys playing together.
Tonight's objective is the Mirage City Dungeon. This Dungeon is set in a mist-covered illusionary sea realm where the boss is the legendary Shen Demon, known for creating illusions and mental attacks that require high levels of teamwork and strategy. We are among the first teams on the server attempting to clear it.
At the entrance of the Dungeon, there was a bustling crowd. Besides our guild, several large guilds had gathered here as well, including War God Hall—the top guild where Yi Jian Han resides.
