Lost in His Isle 6: First Date Fiasco

On the first weekend after officially establishing our relationship, Shen Yu asked me out. This was our first real date, and I was as nervous as if I were about to take an important exam. 0

The night before, I found myself fretting in front of my wardrobe. Would wearing a dress be too deliberate? Would a sweatshirt be too casual? Su Xiaoxiao watched me with amusement, saying, "Oh my gosh, Lin Qi, you’ve never been this anxious over writing a paper!" 0

In the end, with Su Xiaoxiao's advice, I chose a light blue dress paired with a white knitted cardigan—simple yet fresh. The next morning, I even went so far as to put on light makeup. Looking at the slightly unfamiliar reflection in the mirror, I took a deep breath and tried to calm my racing heart. 0

Shen Yu arrived punctually at the dormitory entrance. He wore a light gray casual shirt paired with dark trousers, looking clean and handsome. When he saw me, his eyes brightened, and his lips involuntarily curved into a smile. 0

"You look beautiful," he complimented sincerely. 0

My face flushed uncontrollably. "Y-you look great too." 0

He chuckled softly and naturally took my hand. His palm was warm and dry, and the warmth eased some of my tension. 0

Our date location was a highly-rated Western restaurant that he had reserved in advance. The environment was elegant and the atmosphere romantic. However, sitting across from him, I found it hard to enjoy my meal. 0

The main reason was… I wasn’t very skilled at using a knife and fork. Normally, when eating at the cafeteria or small restaurants, I never needed them. Now, faced with a beautifully plated steak, I felt more challenged than when coding. 0

I carefully mimicked Shen Yu’s movements but still ended up cutting awkwardly, nearly sending a piece of beef flying off my plate. Embarrassment washed over me; I wished I could disappear under the table. 0

Shen Yu seemed to notice my discomfort. He set down his knife and fork and smoothly pulled my plate toward him. "Let me help." 0

"Ah? No need…" 0

Ignoring my protest, he picked up my knife and fork and skillfully cut the steak into bite-sized pieces before pushing the plate back toward me. "All done. Go ahead." 0

His actions were so natural, his tone so gentle; there was no hint of mockery in his demeanor. Looking at the carefully cut steak on my plate filled me with warmth. 0

"Thank you," I said softly as I picked up my fork and took a bite. Mmm, it tasted great. 0

"Take your time; no one’s going to steal your food," he said, watching me with a fond smile in his eyes. 0

The atmosphere during the meal became much more relaxed. We chatted about everything from funny school stories to our hobbies. I discovered that Shen Yu wasn’t as aloof and taciturn as rumored; when he was with me, he talked quite a bit and was an excellent listener. 0

After dinner, we went to watch a movie—a romance film with somewhat cliché plotlines—but I enjoyed it immensely mainly because he was sitting beside me. In the dark theater, he held my hand tightly throughout the film. Occasionally, he would turn to look at me with such gentle eyes that it felt like drowning in sweetness. 0

After the movie ended, he walked me back to the dormitory. When we reached downstairs, he paused for a moment instead of leaving right away. 0

"Did you… have fun today?" he asked uncertainly. 0

"I had fun! Really enjoyed it!" I nodded vigorously; it was true. Although things had been a bit "chaotic," every moment spent with him felt incredibly sweet. 0

He smiled and gently tucked a strand of hair blown by the wind behind my ear. "That’s good." 0

He leaned down and gently pressed a kiss on my forehead, the warm sensation lingering for just a moment. 0
"Good night, Lin Qi." 0
"Good... good night, Shen Yu." I covered my forehead, feeling as if it were on fire, my heart racing so fast it felt like it might leap out of my throat. 0
Watching him turn and walk away, I leaned against the wall of the dormitory building, grinning foolishly for a long time. The nervousness and awkwardness of our first date were completely overshadowed by the immense sweetness brought by that goodnight kiss. 0
So this is what it feels like to be in love. It was like falling into a jar filled with candy, where even the air was sweet. 0
