I don't know if it's just my recent streak of bad luck, but the heart palpitations from that literary performance haven't settled yet, and now a new trouble has come knocking at my door. This time, the trouble is named Chen Yu.
Chen Yu is our grade's Campus Heartthrob, not the kind of rebellious figure like Lu Yu, but rather the refined, academically excellent type whose smile could melt glaciers. The key point is, he is indeed very handsome.
Without any warning, this Campus Heartthrob Chen Yu began to make advances towards me. At first, every morning, I would find a warm breakfast waiting for me in my desk drawer—sandwiches with milk or soy milk with buns—accompanied by a note written in beautiful handwriting: "Good morning, Lin Wan. —Chen Yu."
When I received it for the first time, I was taken aback. Holding that breakfast, I was at a loss, looking around with a burning face. Some classmates had already started whispering about it.
I tried to return the breakfast to Chen Yu, but he always smiled and said, "Just a small gesture; I hope you don't feel burdened." Then he would politely walk away, leaving me holding a hot potato.
Naturally, Lu Yu found out about this very quickly. That morning, he came to knock on my door as usual to go to school together. I hesitated and stuffed the breakfast from Chen Yu into the bottom of my backpack, pretending nothing had happened.
As we reached downstairs, he suddenly stopped and turned his head to look at me with an assessing gaze. "What's in your backpack?"
"Nothing, just books," I said, avoiding his gaze.
He snorted but didn't call me out on it. Instead, on our way to school, he inexplicably started critiquing me. "Lin Wan, can you walk a bit faster?" "I've told you so many times that your bangs need a trim; they're blocking your eyes." "That shirt you're wearing today is really ugly."
I couldn't take it anymore: "Lu Yu, did you take crazy pills today?"
He fell silent, but the oppressive atmosphere around him was more intense than a Siberian cold front.
Chen Yu's advances didn't stop at breakfast. He would also "coincidentally" run into me during breaks and hand me a bottle of yogurt or offer to help explain difficult problems when I struggled. His demeanor was always gentle and measured, making it hard to refuse him directly.
Meanwhile, Lu Yu's interference became more blatant. One time after class, when Chen Yu offered me a box of strawberry milk, I hesitated about whether to accept it when Lu Yu suddenly appeared out of nowhere. With a long reach, he snatched the milk right out of Chen Yu's hands.
"Thanks," he said as he inserted a straw and took a big sip before looking provocatively at Chen Yu. "She doesn't like strawberry flavor; don't buy it next time."
Chen Yu's smile faltered for a moment but he maintained his composure: "Oh really? I'm sorry; I didn't know."
I felt so awkward that my toes were practically digging into the ground in embarrassment. "Lu Yu! What are you doing?"
"Am I not allowed to be thirsty?" He looked completely unfazed as he finished off the milk and accurately tossed the empty box into a nearby trash can. "Let's go, Lin Wan; the math teacher wants you in the office."
I was left speechless: "??? When did I…"
Before I could react, Lu Yu had already grabbed my wrist and half-dragged me away, leaving Chen Yu standing alone in place.
He pulled me out of the classroom, and I forcefully shook off his hand. "Lu Yu, are you out of your mind? The teacher didn't call for me at all!"
He stopped, turned around, and his expression was not pleasant. "That guy clearly has bad intentions. Stay away from him."
"He was just being nice and offering me something. How is that bad? Besides, who I choose to associate with is none of your business!" I was really annoyed with him.
"If I say no, then it's no!" His tone carried an undeniable authority. "Lin Wan, have you forgotten who your brother is?"
There it was again! The same line! "Your brother!"
Looking at his slightly stubborn and irritated expression, the anger inside me suddenly simmered down, replaced by a more complex feeling that I couldn't quite articulate. It was annoying how possessive he was, yet somehow… I vaguely felt that his concern for me wasn't entirely a bad thing?
Ugh! Lin Wan, get a grip! This is just his unreasonable possessiveness!
"I’m not talking to you anymore!" I stomped my foot and turned to run away.
