Our Sweet Formula 16: Twist of Fate

The school administration clearly took the malicious framing and its serious implications very seriously. The next day, the counselor urgently convened all relevant personnel, including me and Jiang Chi, along with department leaders and teachers from the Disciplinary Committee, for a formal inquiry. 0

The atmosphere in the conference room was tense. When the counselor played the recording, which was noisy yet still clearly identifiable as Meng Yao's voice, and presented the analysis report that pointed out the signs of photo forgery, Meng Yao's face turned pale as a sheet, her eyes filled with panic, and she lost all her previous arrogance. 0

At first, she attempted to argue her case, but faced with irrefutable evidence, her words fell flat. Especially when the teacher from the Disciplinary Committee produced another piece of evidence—a detailed chat log and transfer receipts that proved how Meng Yao had orchestrated the forum posts and promised benefits—Meng Yao completely broke down, crying uncontrollably and admitting that she had planned this framing out of jealousy and a desire for revenge. 0

The truth finally came to light. 0

The school's decision came swiftly: all suspicions of cheating against me and Jiang Chi were lifted, our physics competition results were reinstated (both Jiang Chi and I had unexpectedly won first prize), and Meng Yao was publicly reprimanded throughout the school, receiving a disciplinary mark. 0

The cloud that had loomed over me for days finally dissipated, and I felt significantly lighter. As I walked through the campus, those strange looks disappeared, replaced by sympathy, apologies, and even some admiration. 0

However, my heart did not completely clear. The crux of the matter still lay with Jiang Chi. 0

During that decisive inquiry, Jiang Chi remained unusually calm throughout; one could even say he was… indifferent. He sat there expressionless as if all of this had nothing to do with him. When the truth was revealed and Meng Yao apologized through tears, he merely cast her a fleeting glance. When the results were announced, he simply said "Understood" before being the first to leave the conference room. 0

He hadn’t spoken a word to me from beginning to end; not even a glance. 0

His reaction felt like a bucket of ice water extinguishing the flickering hope in my heart. The misunderstanding had been resolved; our innocence was proven, yet it seemed our distance had grown even greater than before. Was he still angry? Angry at my earlier concealment and distrust? Or perhaps… after this turmoil, he was utterly disappointed in me and no longer wished to have any connection? 0

In the following days, we continued to live in parallel worlds. He reverted to his previous solitary state but was even more silent and cold than before. I began to sadly think that perhaps all those ambiguous moments, those closenesses, those heart-fluttering feelings were merely my own delusions and one-sided fantasies. To him, I might never have been anything more than just a friend—if even that. 0

Just when I felt utterly despondent and prepared to bury this relationship that had ended before it even began—throwing all my energy into studying—Su Xiao burst into the dorm like a whirlwind, bringing news that left me dumbfounded and shattered my worldview. 0

"Lin Xi!! Xi Xi!! Do you know?! Do you know what Jiang Chi did behind your back to help clear your name?!" Su Xiao exclaimed excitedly, her face flushed as she grabbed my arm and shook it vigorously. 0

"What... what did he do?" I asked in confusion. Hadn't he always been so indifferent? 0

"Indifferent my foot! That was all an act!" Su Xiao revealed excitedly. "The anonymous informant who exposed Meng Yao's chat logs and transfer records is Jiang Chi! I don’t know what methods he used, but he managed to drag out that coward who was bribed by Meng Yao to post on the forum and forced him to hand over all the evidence! He even threatened that coward—if he dared to reveal it was him who did it, he’d make sure he wouldn’t graduate! Then he organized all the evidence and anonymously submitted it to the Disciplinary Committee! That’s what made the school determined to investigate thoroughly! Otherwise, with just Senior Su Yang's recording and photo analysis alone, they probably would have swept it under the rug!" 0
