"Is there something you need, President Chen?" I asked calmly. 0

On the other end of the line, his breath hitched sharply, followed by a deeper anger. "President Chen? Lin Wan, are you playing games with me? Tell me where you are right now! I’ll give you ten minutes to get back here!" 0

His tone was still as presumptuous as ever, filled with commands and an air of unquestionable authority. It was as if I were still the wife who would come at his beck and call. 0

"I'm sorry, but I can't go back," I replied. "I've decided to get a divorce." 0

"I don't agree!" he nearly shouted. "Let me tell you, Lin Wan, as long as I don’t agree, you will always be my Chen Yi's woman! Want a divorce? Dream on!" 0

"Then we’ll see each other in court," I said coolly, unfazed. "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up." 0

"Lin Wan!" he roared my name, his voice laced with a near-manic fury. "Are you seeing someone else?! Who's the bastard who gave you the guts?! Tell me who he is!" 0

I could hardly contain my laughter at his absurdity. In his mind, a woman leaving him must be due to betrayal. He never considered that the problem might lie with himself. 0

"Think whatever you want," I said dismissively before hanging up. 0

After ending the call, I immediately blocked his number. The world fell silent again. But I knew this was only temporary. With Chen Yi's personality, he would never let this go easily. 0

I had to leave this place quickly and find somewhere he couldn't track me down. 0

I contacted Su Qing. 0

"Lan Wan! You finally came to your senses!" Su Qing exclaimed on the other end of the line, nearly in tears from excitement. "Where are you? I'll come pick you up right away!" 0

"Qing Qing, wait," I interrupted her. "Chen Yi will definitely send someone to watch you. I don’t want to drag you into this." 0

"What should we do then? He’s vindictive; you can’t handle this alone…" Su Qing sounded worried. 0

"Don't worry; I have my plans," I reassured her. "Can you do me a favor? Please cancel that little art studio I used to rent and throw away everything inside… except for the paintings." 0

That little studio was rented before I met Chen Yi. Later, he had me move into a mansion, and it had been left empty ever since. The paintings inside were all my hard work and dreams. 0

"Okay, I understand," Su Qing agreed. "So what about you…?" 0

"I need to leave this city for a while," I said. "Once I'm settled down, I'll contact you again. Remember, if anyone asks about me, just say you don’t know." 0

“Lan Wan…” 0
“Qing Qing, trust me, I can take care of myself.” My tone was firm. 0
After hanging up the phone, I immediately booked a flight to a small town in the south. The climate there was mild, the pace of life slow, and no one knew me. It was the ideal place for me to start anew. 0
I quickly packed my few belongings, checked out of my room, and headed straight for the airport. 0
All the way there, I remained highly alert, fearing that Chen Yi's people might intercept me. 0
It wasn't until the plane took off and soared into the clouds that I felt my heart relax a little. 0
Looking out at the rolling sea of clouds, I took out my sketchbook and pencil. 0
It had been a long time since I last drew. 0
After being with him, my time had been almost entirely consumed by him. He didn’t like me to focus my energy on “useless” things. He said that a woman's greatest value lay in supporting her husband and raising children, being a good helpmate to him, Chen Yi. 0
My paintbrush had gathered a thick layer of dust. My dreams had been buried deep within my heart. 0
Now, I wanted to reclaim them, little by little. 0
As the tip of the pencil touched the paper, it made a soft scratching sound. At first, it felt somewhat awkward, but soon enough, that familiar sensation returned. 0
Lines flowed across the paper, sketching out the clouds outside and… the flicker of renewed hope in my eyes. 0
Upon arriving in Southern Small Town, the warm, humid air greeted me. 0
I found a small inn to stay temporarily and then began searching for a place to live. 0
Luck was on my side; I quickly found a rental house with a small courtyard in the old town area. The rent was affordable, and the environment was tranquil. 0
I tidied up a bit and bought some necessary living supplies. The small courtyard had several unknown flowers and plants growing in it, basking in the warm sunlight. 0
This would be my new beginning. 0
The first thing I did after settling in was to look for a job. 0
I had studied art design in college; although I had wasted two years, my foundation was still there. I sent out several resumes, primarily to advertising companies and design studios. 0
Before long, a local small advertising company offered me an interview opportunity. 0
The interview process went smoothly. The boss was an upbeat middle-aged woman who immediately decided to hire me after reviewing my portfolio. 0
“Miss Lin, your designs are very spirited, and your fundamentals are solid. However… it seems like you haven't worked on any practical projects for some time?” The boss pointed out the issue keenly. 0

"Yes, I took a break for two years due to some personal reasons," I admitted candidly. 0

"It's alright, practice makes perfect," my boss smiled. "I believe you'll adapt quickly. Welcome aboard!" 0

"Thank you!" I felt a surge of gratitude. 0

Although the salary wasn't high and I had to relearn many things, the sense of independence that came with this regained job made me feel incredibly grounded. 0

I began a regular nine-to-five routine. During the day, I worked, and in the evenings, I tended to my little garden or painted under the lamp. 0

I reactivated my social media account and only added Su Qing. Occasionally, we chatted, and it comforted me to know she had taken good care of my paintings. 0

Regarding Chen Yi, Su Qing mentioned that he was searching for me frantically. He had reached out to everyone he could and practically turned the city upside down. But he seemed unaware that I had left that place. 0

He probably thought I was just hiding away, throwing a tantrum, waiting for him to find me, coax me back with sweet words or threats. 0

He was always so arrogant. 0

"He won't find me," I told Su Qing calmly over the phone. "I'm not the same Lin Wan anymore." 0

After hanging up, I gazed out at the bright moonlight and took a deep breath. 0

The air was filled with a sense of freedom and freshness. 0

It felt wonderful. 0
