For a long time, I leaned against the wall, slowly rising to my feet and gazing at my reflection in the mirror.
My pale face, haggard features, and the grotesque scar on my left cheek resembled a centipede, coiling across my skin.
I forced a bitter smile. How could someone like me ever be worthy of Gu Jing Shen's love?
Returning to the studio, I suppressed my discomfort and began designing a wedding dress for Su Nian.
I wanted her to be the most beautiful bride, even if the groom was not me.
A few days later, Su Nian and Gu Jing Shen came to the studio for her fitting.
Watching Su Nian twirl in the wedding dress I had designed with my own hands, in front of Gu Jing Shen, felt like a knife twisting in my heart.
Gu Jing Shen's gaze was tender as he looked at Su Nian, his eyes filled with affection.
It was a softness he had never shown me.
Suddenly, Su Nian stumbled, spilling her coffee all over my left cheek.
The scalding liquid flowed down my scar, and the searing pain made me gasp involuntarily.
I instinctively covered my face, curling up as a spasm gripped my stomach, making it nearly impossible to speak.
"Ah! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to!" Su Nian exclaimed, but there was a flicker of satisfaction in her eyes that was hard to miss.
Gu Jing Shen merely shot me a cold glance without saying a word; there was no trace of concern in his eyes—only disgust.
He helped Su Nian up and asked with genuine concern, "Are you okay?"
Su Nian shook her head. "I'm fine; it's just a pity about the coffee."
Gu Jing Shen smiled gently. "It's alright; we can just get another one."
He didn’t even look at me as he took Su Nian and left the studio.
I collapsed onto the ground, a wave of sharp pain twisting in my stomach, and my vision blurred into darkness.
In the chaos, I felt something hard pressing against my hand.
Looking down, I saw the ancestral jade pendant of the Gu Family.
The pendant was stained with my vomited blood, shimmering with an eerie glow.
Instinctively, I tightened my grip on the pendant, memories of the Great Fire five years ago flooding my mind.
The roaring flames, the heart-wrenching cries, and Gu Jing Shen's desperate gaze.
No, I can't let this tragedy repeat itself!
I want to change everything!
I must save him!
Suddenly, the pendant emitted a blinding light that enveloped me completely.
I felt my body being pulled by a powerful force as the surroundings began to twist and distort.
After a dizzying spin, I found myself standing in a place that was both strange and familiar.
The air was thick with the acrid smell of smoke, and the crackling sound of burning filled my ears.
Looking up, I was met with a sea of flames.
The fire licked hungrily at everything in its path, thick smoke billowing up to obscure the sky.
Isn't this the Great Fire from five years ago?
I've actually returned to the past!
I saw Gu Jing Shen standing outside the Fire Scene, his face filled with anxiety and his eyes red-rimmed.
He was about to rush into the Fire Scene without a second thought.
"Jing Shen! No!" I shouted, desperately running toward him.
I grabbed his arm, using all my strength to stop him.
"Are you crazy? It's too dangerous in there!"
Gu Jing Shen violently shook off my hand with surprising force. "Wan Tang, let go of me! Su Nian is still inside!" he yelled, his voice hoarse.
I was pushed to the ground, my palm scraped against the rough surface, stinging with pain.
But I couldn't focus on that; I couldn't let him go in there to die.
"Su Nian will be fine! Trust me!" I struggled to get back up and wrapped my arms around his waist again.
"Let go of me! You wicked woman! If anything happens to Su Nian, I will never forgive you!" Gu Jing Shen glared at me fiercely, his eyes filled with hatred.
His gaze felt like a sharp blade piercing through my heart.
