Sunlight streamed through the worn window panes, casting mottled shadows on the floor. Zhou Yue lay on the bed in the school infirmary, having been unconscious for an entire day. Yang Su stood by her side, watching her pale face. A lot had changed in the village over the course of that day. The missing people had gradually been found, including Xiao Wangzi, all discovered unconscious in the grass near the clock tower. Old Woman Zhong's stall was empty; it was said she had left the village that night. 0

Teacher Li and Zhang San Shui had both sustained serious injuries and were taken to the county hospital. Before leaving, Teacher Li had given Yang Su a locked wooden box, saying it contained things he needed to know. 0

“Hmm…” A soft moan came from the bed as Zhou Yue stirred awake. 0

“How do you feel?” Yang Su handed her a cup of water. 0

Zhou Yue took the cup, her hands trembling. “I feel like I had a very long dream. There was a woman in it, talking to me…” She suddenly paused. “No, that wasn’t a dream.” 0

“Do you remember?” 0

“Yes.” Zhou Yue set down the cup. “I remember many things. That woman… the White-Clad Witch, she filled my mind with so many images. I saw many things—about my mother, about this village, and…” She bit her lip. “About my father.” 0

“Your father?” 0

Zhou Yue nodded. “I finally understand why he disappeared so suddenly. He’s not an ordinary person; he is…” 0

Before she could finish her sentence, footsteps echoed from outside the door. A doctor in a white coat entered, holding a syringe. 0

“It’s time for your injection,” he said. 0

Zhou Yue’s expression changed abruptly. “Wait, you’re not…” 0

The doctor looked up, revealing a familiar face—the shadow she had seen that night in the graveyard! His eyes glowed with an eerie blue light, and a sinister smile crept across his lips. 0

“You thought this was over?” His voice was hoarse. “This is just the beginning.” 0

Yang Su sprang to his feet, positioning himself protectively in front of Zhou Yue. But the “doctor” had vanished without a trace, his footsteps disappearing as if he had never been there at all. 0

“Who was that?” 0

“My father…” Zhou Yue trembled as she spoke. “That looked like my father.” 0

Yang Su recalled the wooden box given by Teacher Li and quickly retrieved it from his bag. The box was made of redwood, intricately carved with complex runes that resembled those on the stone tablet of the Underground Altar. 0

The lock was an odd copper one shaped like a dragon's head. He tried using a coin to unlock it, and with a click, it opened. 0

Inside were three items: a yellowed notebook, a broken jade pendant, and a faded photograph. 0

The notebook was quite old; on its first page was written "Zhou Deming's Notebook." Zhou Yue gazed at her father's handwriting, tears streaming down her face. 0

Yang Su opened the notebook, and on the first page were astonishing contents: 0

"I finally understand what I am. I am not just a wisp of soul," Zhou Deming's notes read. "The White-Clad Witch chose a baby with a special Bloodline forty years ago. That baby died, and her soul took the opportunity to enter that body, giving me a human form while retaining the consciousness of the witch. This dual identity allows me to unite with Wang Lanzhi, who also possesses a special Bloodline." 0

Zhou Yue gasped in shock. "How is that possible…" 0

She continued reading: 0

"I fell in love with Wang Lanzhi; it was the first time I experienced human emotions. I thought I could live like an ordinary person, but I was wrong. The call of the Bloodline grew stronger, and I could no longer control myself. I knew that staying by her and her daughter would only bring disaster. 0

But now it is too late. My blood combined with the White-Clad Witch's blood has produced an even more powerful being—my daughter, Zhou Yue. She carries the purest witch blood within her, and she is the key to opening that door…" 0
