Yang Su took the genuine jade pendant and immediately felt a surge of pure power. The jade was warm and smooth, emitting a faint azure glow, completely different from the previous one.
“Quick!” Gu Linshan shouted. “Recite the Bloodline incantation!”
“I don’t know how…”
“It's on the back of the pendant.” Gu Linshan said, pulling out a bell from his pocket. “I’ll hold them off.”
He shook the bell, producing a clear ringing sound. The black tendrils recoiled as if burned by something.
Yang Su flipped over the pendant and indeed found a line of small characters inscribed on it. Just as he was about to begin reciting, Zhou Yue suddenly let out a piercing scream.
“Ah!”
Her body floated in mid-air, surrounded by an eerie blue light. A maniacal laughter echoed from the black mist: “Too late! The ritual has already begun!”
The entire underground space shook violently, and the symbols on the stone walls lit up, outlining a massive magic array in the darkness. Zhou Yue’s shadow twisted completely, transforming into a colossal dark figure that merged with the mist.
“Recite!” Gu Linshan shouted. “Quickly recite the incantation!”
Yang Su steadied himself and loudly read the words on the pendant: “Heaven and Earth, profound and yellow; Sun and Moon, shining together. Four Symbols, Bagua; Heaven and Earth, positioning…”
As he spoke the incantation, both the copper coins and the jade pendant began to glow, their light intertwining to form a large net that enveloped the entire space. The black mist emitted anguished howls and began to churn violently.
“Keep going!” Gu Linshan urged while shaking the bell. “Let Zhou Yue make her own choice!”
Yang Su looked up at Zhou Yue in mid-air: “Zhou Yue! Wake up! You are not a vessel; you are yourself! Your Bloodline does not determine your fate!”
Zhou Yue’s body trembled violently, her blue eyes flickering: “I… I…”
“Think of your mother!” Yang Su continued to shout. “She would rather die than let you become a vessel for the White-Clad Witch; she wants you to live for yourself!”
“Shut up!” The black mist roared as more tendrils reached out. “She is our Bloodline! She is destined to…”
“I don’t want that!” Zhou Yue suddenly opened her eyes, her pupils returning to their normal color. “I am Zhou Yue! Not anyone's vessel!”
A dazzling light erupted from her body, but this time it was not an eerie blue; it was a warm golden glow. The light sliced through the tendrils that were entangling her like a sword.
“This is… Pure Yang Energy?” The black mist writhed violently. “Impossible! You clearly possess the purest witch blood…”
“My Bloodline holds more than just the power of a witch,” Zhou Yue declared. “It also carries my mother’s love, and…” She glanced at the artifact in Yang Su’s hand, “the will to protect!”
She floated in mid-air as her golden light intensified. The black mist retreated under its brilliance, letting out shrill cries of despair.
“Quick!” Gu Linshan shouted. “Use the copper coins and jade pendant to re-establish the seal!”
Yang Su raised two magical artifacts, their light intertwining in the air to form a massive Taiji Pattern. Zhou Yue's figure stood perfectly at the center of the design, the golden light and the power of the artifacts merging flawlessly.
"No!" A voice echoed from the black mist, belonging to Zhou Deming. " Yue'er, you can't..."
"I'm sorry, Dad," Zhou Yue said through her tears. "But I have to do this."
With her hands forming seals, she began to chant an ancient incantation. Symbols flowed from her body, sketching a new magical array in the air. This array was neither the suppressive Bagua nor a summoning vortex, but a completely new symbol.
The moment the array took shape, a beam of golden light shot into the sky. The black mist let out one final wail before being completely consumed by the radiance. The entire underground space trembled, debris falling all around.
"Run!" Gu Linshan shouted. "This place is going to collapse!"
They sprinted desperately down the corridor as a tremendous roar erupted behind them. After what felt like an eternity, they finally burst out of the bell tower, only to look back and see the towering structure crash down into a heap of ruins.
As the dust settled, Zhou Yue collapsed onto the ground. She looked up at the brightening sky, tears streaming down her face.
In the distance, the melodious sound of the Morning Bell rang out, but this time it was clear and pleasant, no longer carrying that haunting power. A new day had begun; sunlight bathed the ruins, dispelling the last remnants of gloom.
Gu Linshan watched it all with a gentle sigh. "It's over, at least this time..."
Yang Su helped Zhou Yue to her feet, gazing at the faint symbols still visible among the rubble, knowing that this was far from over. But at least they had passed through the most difficult trial.
Dawn broke, its light spilling across the land. Zhonglou Village awakened in the morning glow, as if emerging from a long nightmare.
