Gu Jing Shen noticed something was off with me, and he stopped, concern etched on his face. "Wan Tang, are you okay? Do you want to take a break?"
I shook my head. "I'm fine. Let's keep going."
I knew that Gu Jing Shen had brought me here for a reason, and I didn't want to disappoint him or make him worry.
We continued our ascent and finally stopped in front of a small wooden cabin at the top of the mountain.
The cabin was simple, with just a door and a window.
Gu Jing Shen pushed the door open, and a rush of cold air hit me.
I couldn't help but shiver.
He helped me inside and lit the fire in the fireplace.
As the flames flickered to life, they chased away the chill in the room.
Only then did I see that the cabin contained just a bed, a table, and a few chairs.
On the table lay an easel, some brushes, and a stack of drawing paper.
I walked over and picked up a sheet of paper, revealing a sketch of a wedding dress.
The design was unique and beautiful.
I recognized it immediately as my own style. "This is…?" I looked at Gu Jing Shen in confusion.
He stepped closer and gently wrapped his arms around me.
"Wan Tang, do you remember you once said your biggest dream was to design a one-of-a-kind wedding dress?" he said softly.
I nodded. "I remember."
"This is the surprise I prepared for you," Gu Jing Shen said. "I hope you can fulfill your dream here."
I looked at him, tears streaming down my face once again.
"Gu Jing Shen, why... why are you so good to me?" I choked out.
Gu Jing Shen gently stroked my hair, his gaze tender.
"Because I love you," he said softly. "Wan Tang, I love you more than I love myself."
I could no longer control my emotions and hugged him tightly, crying out loud.
I had waited too long for those words.
But when they finally came from Gu Jing Shen's lips, I realized that I no longer had time to enjoy this happiness.
I knew my life was coming to an end.
"Gu Jing Shen, do you... do you remember that jade pendant?" I asked softly.
He nodded. "I remember."
I took the jade pendant out of my pocket and handed it to Gu Jing Shen.
"This pendant... it..."
Before I could finish my sentence, Gu Jing Shen suddenly interrupted me.
"Wan Tang, don't speak. Just rest well," he said gently. "Once you've finished painting the wedding dress, we can..."
Before he could complete his thought, a loud crash echoed from outside.
Boom—
The entire wooden cabin began to shake violently.
I looked outside in terror and saw the distant snow-capped mountains collapsing.
An avalanche!
Before I could react, Gu Jing Shen had already scooped me up in his arms and dashed out of the cabin.
The snowflakes swirled around us like enormous beasts, charging towards us.
We were swept away by the waves of snow, rolling down the mountain.
I held onto Gu Jing Shen tightly, closing my eyes and waiting for death to arrive.
At that moment, I suddenly felt a warmth in my hand.
I looked down to see the jade pendant radiating a dazzling light. The glow grew brighter and more blinding, eventually enveloping us completely.
I felt my body lighten, as if I were floating in the air.
I heard Gu Jing Shen whispering in my ear, "Wan Tang, hold on to me and don't let go." I grasped his hand tightly, our fingers interlocking.
In the next moment, we vanished into the endless light...
The glow of the jade pendant consumed us.
When I awoke again, I found myself surrounded by a brilliant halo of light.
