Lin Xueqing slowly turned around. A man in black was pointing a gun at her, and behind him stood several others dressed similarly. 0

"Give me the Comb," the man said. 0

"Who are you?" Lin Xueqing did not move. 0

"We were once the Gatekeepers," the man sneered, "or rather, the Awakened Gatekeepers." 0

"Awakened?" 0

"Yes." The man stepped forward. "For centuries, the Gatekeepers have only known how to seal these doors. But they have never considered what kind of power these doors represent." 0

"Power?" Lin Xueqing tightened her grip on the Comb. "Do you want to change history?" 0

"Change? No." A fervor flashed in the man's eyes. "We aim to create a new history. Just think, if we could traverse time and space, what could we achieve?" 0

"That would be a disaster," Old Curator's voice suddenly rang out. 0

The man in black turned his head to see Old Curator stepping out from the shadows. "So you’re here too, old fool." 0

"You have no idea what you're doing," Old Curator said. "Time and space are not toys to be trifled with." 0

"We understand better than anyone," the man replied. "The Gatekeepers have been shackled by tradition for centuries; it is time for change." 0

While he spoke, Lin Xueqing had already aimed the Comb at the patterns on the Imperial Throne Armrest. But she still needed the jade pendant. 0

As if understanding her thoughts, Shen Mo Ting quietly moved to the other side. 0

"Your Mother is just as stubborn," the man continued. "If she were willing to join us..." 0

"Shut up!" Lin Xueqing interrupted sharply. "Don't mention my Mother." 0

"Very well," the man raised his gun. "Then you'll trade your life for the Comb." 0

"Wait!" Shen Mo Ting suddenly shouted. 0

Everyone turned towards him. He held up a jade pendant. "This is what you want, right?" 0

The attention of the black-clad men was immediately diverted. "The jade pendant!" 0

In that instant, Lin Xueqing inserted the Comb into the grooves while Shen Mo Ting threw the jade pendant. It traced an arc through the air and landed perfectly in the slot of the Comb. 0

"No!" The black-clad man pulled the trigger. 0

The gunshot echoed through the hall, but a louder sound erupted from behind the Imperial Throne. A blinding light suddenly burst forth, followed by a powerful suction. 0

"The door has opened!" the Old Curator shouted. 0

The space began to warp, and a vortex-like portal formed behind the Imperial Throne. Everyone felt an overwhelming gravitational pull. 0

"Get back!" Shen Mo Ting tried to grab Lin Xueqing, but it was already too late. 0

The pull of the light gate grew stronger. The figures in black tried to grasp the pillars, but one by one, they were drawn in. 0

"Xueqing!" Shen Mo Ting shouted. 0

Lin Xueqing struggled to hold onto the Imperial Throne, but her arms were beginning to numb. In the blinding light, she seemed to see a familiar figure. 0

"Mom?" 0

The figure reached out to her, as if waiting through the river of time. 0

"Don't!" Shen Mo Ting's voice sounded distant. 0

Lin Xueqing let go, allowing herself to be consumed by the light gate. In the last moment before losing consciousness, she heard the voice of the Old Curator: 0

"Remember, no matter which time and space you are in, protect the truth..." 0

Then everything fell into darkness. 0

When she opened her eyes again, she found herself in a completely unfamiliar yet strangely familiar world. 0

It was... the Forbidden City during the Qianlong era. 0
