In the police station, under the cold glare of fluorescent lights, Chen Guiyuan's gaze flickered uncertainly. 0

Officer Xu said, "Chen Guiyuan, this Life Insurance claim was filed shortly after your wife Su Mingke's death. Were you in such a hurry for money?" 0

"I just suddenly remembered this insurance policy. It's my legal right. Is that all it takes to accuse me of murdering my wife for the payout?" 0

"Someone anonymously sent a package to the insurance company along with a letter accusing you of killing your wife for the insurance money. Initially, the Insurance Manager was skeptical, but when you applied for the claim the day after the funeral, she immediately reported it to the police. This package contains records of prescription drugs you purchased through illegal channels and a USB drive. The USB has extensive video evidence of you murdering your wife for the insurance payout. Care to explain?" Officer Xu pulled out his phone, waved it in front of Chen Guiyuan's face, and pressed play. 0

The videos were chilling, clearly documenting how he staged a haunting to scare her, secretly drugged her, switched her medications, and even captured the moment he pushed her into the water by the lake. 0

Chen Guiyuan's face turned pale, cold sweat streaming down his forehead as his legs began to tremble uncontrollably. 0

Suddenly, he erupted like an enraged beast, shouting hysterically, "No! This is all fake! It's fabricated! I did nothing! I have no idea what happened!" 0

Officer Xu calmly watched him, his gaze sharp as a knife. "Our technical department has confirmed the authenticity of these videos; they have not been tampered with. Chen Guiyuan, based on the evidence we have gathered, you are suspected of murdering your wife Su Mingke and attempting to obtain a large illegal benefit through insurance claims. You should confess." 0

Seeing Chen Guiyuan fall silent, Officer Xu presented him with an investigation report detailing his financial situation over the past year and chat records with Juliy that clearly outlined their plan to commit murder for insurance money. 0

No further confession was needed; all this evidence unmistakably pointed to him—Chen Guiyuan—as the murderer of his own wife. 0

Despair washed over him as he slumped in his chair in the interrogation room, staring blankly at everything before him, unable to comprehend where this evidence had come from. Just hours ago he had been full of confidence; now his eyes were vacant as if he had aged ten years in an instant. 0

"I admit it... I killed my wife, Su Mingke." 0

Officer Xu continued to press him, "Chen Guiyuan, according to our investigation, your wife Su Mingke and her parents treated you well over the years. You could have sought their help; why resort to killing your wife for insurance money?" 0

"Treat me well?" Chen Guiyuan let out a bitter laugh. "Yes, they were kind, but it was merely pity! I didn't want to beg for more pity from them!" 0

After a long silence, he continued bitterly, "I know I don't deserve Su Mingke. My classmates, friends—even her parents think so. My family is just an ordinary one from a small town; my father is an alcoholic who only knows how to drink and beat my mother while I hide in the closet trembling. After finally getting into college, I realized my classmates came from much better backgrounds than mine. They dressed well; almost everyone had a phone, a tablet, or a laptop and often dined at upscale restaurants while I struggled just to pay tuition and living expenses through part-time jobs... College life was just as bleak until I met Su Mingke..." 0

Chen Guiyuan clenched his hands tightly, his eyes hollow as he murmured on, "She was so radiant—different from any girl I'd ever met before. I pursued her for four whole years. Her family was well-off; both her parents were intellectuals. Every time I visited her home, her parents looked at me with pity... Don’t tell me that’s love; it’s pity—I can tell the difference! To be worthy of her and her family, I became desperate to prove myself; I wanted to earn more money and gain higher social status. Eventually, I started taking risks with high-stakes investments. It went well at first but slowly... I couldn’t bring myself to tell her; I could already imagine how disappointed she and her parents would be if they found out—there wouldn’t even be pity left for me..." 0

"So I had no choice but to kill her! That way no one would be disappointed in me anymore! And I could get a large sum from the insurance..." Suddenly he raised his head sharply; madness flickered in his eyes. "Wait! Officer! I didn’t do this alone! I had an accomplice—Juliy! She was the one who suggested it and urged me repeatedly to take action! You must go arrest her!" 0

Officer Xu coldly regarded him. "You don’t need to remind us; we’ve already investigated Juliy. Her phone has been disconnected and all her social accounts are deactivated. We traced her registered ID back—it’s fake too. It seems she has fled. Do you know her real name?" 0

At the mention of Juliy, Chen Guiyuan's eyes filled with hatred and resentment. "That woman... All I know is she goes by Juliy... I should have known better; she wouldn’t let me touch her... She could never have been sincere! She knew something had happened to me and just ran away!" 0

He hung his head in despair, covering his face with his hands as tears streamed down between his fingers and pooled on the interrogation table. 0

This time his tears were genuine. 0
