The Queen Mother sat high upon her throne, a loving smile gracing her face. "What do you think about the engagement between Xiao Tian Quan and the Jade Rabbit, Erlang Shen?"
Before Erlang Shen could respond, the Queen Mother suddenly turned her gaze to A Xiao, who had been wearing a complex expression since Erlang Shen had awakened. "I hear you've been getting along quite well with the Jade Rabbit lately?"
A Xiao glanced at Erlang Shen with a peculiar look and replied slowly, "It's alright."
The Queen Mother sighed again. "Don't blame me for being harsh! Since ancient times, celestial beasts have their differences. I don't want to see you, Erlang Shen, follow in Tai Shang Lao Jun's footsteps."
Erlang Shen finally spoke up, "I do not understand."
A Xiao realized what had felt off all along. Erlang Shen was finally exhibiting the aura of the legendary god who slays demons and monsters, yet he felt strangely unfamiliar to her. In contrast, the Jade Rabbit seemed more like the Erlang Shen she once knew.
"As for Xiao Tian Quan, don't blame me; the fate book indeed states that you and the Jade Rabbit are a pair. So put away any thoughts of fleeing from marriage and live your life well." In truth, the Queen Mother saw through everything more clearly than anyone else. The special bond between Erlang Shen and Xiao Tian Quan had to be severed by her own hands.
After leaving the Temple of the Heavenly Queen, A Xiao visited the Yue Lao Temple. However, when she emerged from there, a large group of brightly dressed fairies suddenly appeared around her and dragged her off to Qiong Yao Pool without a word. Despite her struggles, they swiftly stripped her of her clothes and tossed her into the icy waters of Qiong Yao Pool.
It was truly a cruel fate—there was no celestial essence here! The water in Qiong Yao Pool was formed from melted millennium-old ice; even with A Xiao's celestial aura protecting her, she was left shivering from the cold. As she tried to recall whether she had offended the Queen Mother to deserve such treatment, those fairies pulled her back out and draped a bright red wedding gown adorned with various meat motifs over her shoulders. They then began to fuss over her hair, which had not been properly tended since she arrived in heaven.
Just as A Xiao was about to explode with pent-up anger, the fairies finally ceased their activities and filed out of the spacious room, leaving her alone. She let out a long sigh and tore off the chaotic hairpieces atop her head. As she contemplated how to remove the wedding gown, the door creaked open once more.
"What do you all want?" A Xiao turned around irritably, thinking it was those fairies again.
"A Xiao, you look truly beautiful," came the voice of the Jade Rabbit, who wore a similarly styled bright red wedding robe.
The Jade Rabbit was originally born with red lips and white teeth, her long black hair cascading down without any obstruction. Her fluffy ears twitched gently, and with a shy smile, her cheeks turned slightly pink. This sight made A Xiao swallow hard, feeling quite flustered.
The current situation was completely beyond her understanding. She had thought that Erlang Shen and the Jade Rabbit had reached some sort of agreement and used a transformation spell, but it seemed that was not the case. After a long pause, she tentatively asked, “Is the carrot from the human realm really that effective? Did he turn into a rabbit just from taking a bite?”
“And what about you, Jade Rabbit? What did you eat to become Erlang Shen?”
Erlang Shen stared at her oddly, remaining silent.
At this moment, the Jade Rabbit spoke up: “A Xiao, I have always been the Jade Rabbit.”
“And he is indeed the real Erlang Shen.”
