I lay on the hospital bed, drenched in sweat yet filled with an indescribable happiness. After nine months of waiting, the moment had finally arrived—our little treasure had come into this world.
"Wen Wan, you’ve worked hard," Huo Ting said, holding my hand with eyes full of tenderness and love. I smiled back at him, feeling exhausted but overwhelmed with joy.
A nurse entered the room, cradling our baby. "Congratulations! It's a healthy boy."
Huo Ting carefully took the child into his arms, his usually resolute eyes now brimming with softness. He gently caressed the baby's tiny face, tears glistening in his eyes. "Wen Wan, look at him—he's perfect."
Leaning against the headboard, I watched this heartwarming scene, my heart swelling with emotion. "Huo Ting, what should we name him?"
After a moment of thought, Huo Ting softly replied, "How about we name him Huo Nianwan? 'Nian' means to miss someone; 'Wan' is derived from your name. I hope he will always remember this love and grow up to be as gentle and kind as you."
I nodded, tears welling up in my eyes. "Huo Nianwan—what a beautiful name."
From that day on, our lives changed completely. Xiao Nianwan's arrival brought us endless joy along with many challenges. Every night, we took turns caring for him. Sometimes I was just too exhausted, and Huo Ting would willingly take on more responsibility.
"You go to sleep; I'll take care of him," Huo Ting would always say, gently pushing me back to bed. Watching him sing softly to the baby filled my heart with warmth.
Time flew by, and before we knew it, Xiao Nianwan was already walking. We took him to the park to play, and as we watched him stumble along, both Huo Ting and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Slow down! Be careful not to fall!" I called out, but Huo Ting held me back.
"Don't worry; let him explore on his own. He'll learn to get back up after falling," Huo Ting smiled and said. "Just like us, right?"
I looked into Huo Ting's eyes and recalled the hardships we had endured together. Indeed, it was because we had weathered storms that we cherished the happiness we had in front of us even more.
As Xiao Nian Wan grew up, we began to take him on trips. I remember one time when we went to the seaside. The little guy was so excited to see the ocean for the first time, dancing with joy.
"Mom, Dad, look! The sea is so big!" Xiao Nian Wan cheered as he ran along the beach.
Huo Ting held my hand and softly said, "Wen Wan, thank you for giving me such a wonderful life."
I leaned on his shoulder, gazing at the golden sea under the setting sun, my heart filled with happiness. "Huo Ting, I want to thank you too. You have shown me what true love is."
Time flew by, and Xiao Nian Wan grew taller each day. Every year on his birthday, we would prepare something special for him. Watching the candles on his cake multiply year after year filled us with both joy and nostalgia.
"Mom, Dad, when I grow up, I want to love each other like you do!" Xiao Nian Wan always said.
Huo Ting and I exchanged smiles, silently vowing to be good role models for our child.
As time passed, our hair gradually turned gray and our skin developed wrinkles. Yet our love for each other remained undiminished. Every evening, we still held hands while taking walks, watching the sunset and reminiscing about our past.
"Do you remember when we first met?" Huo Ting asked, his eyes sparkling with tenderness.
I smiled and nodded. "How could I forget? You were quite the cold-faced boss back then."
Huo Ting gently squeezed my hand. "Yes, thanks to you, I learned what true happiness really is."
We exchanged a smile and walked forward in unison. The afterglow of the setting sun bathed us in warmth, stretching our shadows on the ground.
Once we returned home, we sat on the balcony, gazing at the twinkling lights below. Huo Ting suddenly said, "Wen Wan, if I could choose, I would want to meet you again in my next life."
I leaned against his shoulder and softly replied, "I feel the same way. But we still have this life to finish together."
Huo Ting smiled and gently kissed my forehead. "You're right. We have a long journey ahead of us."
Indeed, we have a long road to walk together. Whether through laughter or tears, we will face it all side by side. Because I know that we will continue this way, hand in hand, growing old together, until forever.
