At this moment, Lin Mingchang had begun to take action. At his signal, the four of them quietly approached the back door of the theater.
Lin Mingchang first whispered instructions to the officers stationed there: "Send two men to each side; both the front and back doors need to be secured. Remember, we must act discreetly and avoid alarming anyone inside." The officers nodded and quickly dispersed.
Lin Mingchang glanced at his watch and turned to Shen Tong. "Time is running out; we need to hurry. I will draw their attention at the front entrance. Zigui and Xiaoshuang, you follow Shen Tong through the side door to find the children. Zigui, they have been injected with drugs, so their safety is in your hands."
Fang Zigui patted Lin Mingchang on the shoulder. "Understood, Lin Mingchang. You be careful too."
Lin Mingchang moved around to the front entrance of the theater, deliberately creating a commotion. He brought a few officers with him, pretending to be patrolmen demanding money, and shouted at several individuals who appeared to be theater staff: "Police! Everyone stay still! Who gave you permission to perform here?!"
In an instant, chaos erupted in the theater's foyer. Taking advantage of the confusion, Shen Tong, Ruan Xiaoshuang, and Fang Zigui slipped in through the side door into the backstage area.
In the dimly lit backstage corridor, Shen Tong could clearly see deep blue mist floating in the air. Following this mist, they quickly found a half-open door.
"This is it," Shen Tong whispered.
Ruan Xiaoshuang cautiously pushed open the door, revealing a shocking scene—six children were neatly seated on a bench on one side of the room, each child wearing an expressionless face with vacant eyes. Nearby were several wooden puppet shells stacked on top of each other.
Fang Zigui rushed forward to check on the children's condition. He rolled up the sleeve of a small boy and discovered a puncture mark on his arm. Taking out a stethoscope from his bag, he carefully listened to the child's heartbeat. "They've been injected with mind control drugs, but thankfully their heart rates are still normal..."
Just then, hurried footsteps echoed from down the corridor.
Shen Tong alertly looked toward the door. "Someone's coming!"
The three quickly hid behind a curtain.
It was Hans Schulman, who rushed into the room and immediately noticed that the children's positions had been disturbed. His expression changed dramatically as he glanced around and swiftly pulled out a syringe from a drawer, preparing to inject it into the neck of the nearest child when suddenly a handbag flew toward his face!
Hans Schulman dodged aside but had no time for further action before Lin Mingchang arrived in pursuit.
Hans Schulman abandoned several children and turned to flee toward the stage.
Lin Mingchang chased closely behind as they both quickly disappeared down the staircase at the end of the corridor.
Xiaoshuang was about to follow when Fang Zigui stopped her.
"Taking care of the children is our priority," Fang Zigui said as he began checking the first child's pupil response. "I need your help."
Shen Tong stood up. "Xiaoshuang, you stay here to assist Zigui; I will go support Lin Mingchang."
Without waiting for Xiaoshuang to respond, Shen Tong followed the traces of their presence and quickly found Lin Mingchang and Hans Schulman. The two were entangled in a fierce struggle in the narrow space at the side of the stage.
Although Hans Schulman was tall and clumsy in appearance, he was actually well-versed in Western Swordsmanship. Holding a cane with a silver handle, he executed sharp arcs with surprising agility. Despite Lin Mingchang's impressive martial arts skills, he was repeatedly bewildered by Hans's bizarre attack methods, narrowly avoiding being hit.
