"This is Officer Lin Mingchang, who is in charge of the Hans Schulman case," the Police Chief's voice rose unnaturally. "Lin Mingchang, these two gentlemen are Mr. Baike and Lawyer Schmidt from the German Consulate in Spring City." 0

Lin Mingchang nodded in acknowledgment, his peripheral vision catching sight of the documents spread out on the Police Chief's desk, bearing the seal of the German Consulate. He listened as the Police Chief, clearly suppressing his anger, continued, "The German Consulate believes that Mr. Hans Schulman enjoys diplomatic immunity. They demand that we release Mr. Hans Schulman immediately and hand over all case materials." 0

"That's impossible!" Lin Mingchang blurted out. "Hans Schulman has committed serious crimes; he kidnapped five children, injected them with drugs, and forced them to perform—" 0

"Lin Mingchang!" The Police Chief interrupted him, signaling for him to calm down with a glance. "This is a diplomatic issue; it's not something you or I can decide." 0

"But, Police Chief—" 0

Before Lin Mingchang could finish, the tall foreigner arrogantly cut him off, speaking in stiff Chinese, "According to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, Mr. Hans Schulman, as a member of the German Cultural Exchange Group, enjoys corresponding diplomatic immunity. This is an official document from our consulate." 0

The short, stout foreigner produced a stamped document and pushed it toward the Police Chief with a broad smile. 0

Lin Mingchang struggled to control his emotions. "Hans Schulman is not a diplomat; he is a psychopath! He uses the guise of performance to cover up his criminal acts. We have solid evidence and testimonies from the victimized children..." 0

"Enough!" The Police Chief slammed his hand on the desk. "Considering the current international situation, higher-ups do not wish to provoke diplomatic disputes with Germany over this matter. The case will be handed over to the Special Committee for further handling." 0

Lin Mingchang stood there, fists clenched tightly; he knew what the so-called Special Committee meant... 0

The Police Chief waved him off. "Organize your case materials and submit them to my office by three o'clock this afternoon. Now leave!" 0

The next day, heavy rain poured down. 0

Shen Tong stoked the small coal stove to life and poured four cups of hot tea, quietly handing them to the three dejected individuals in front of her. 0

Lin Mingchang took a cup and said sourly, "I've been suspended with the reason being 'violating procedures and causing mishandling of an important case.'" 0

"That's outrageous!" Xiaoshuang exclaimed angrily. "If it weren't for you, those children would still be in danger! What kind of reasoning is that?" 0

"What else did the Police Chief say?" Shen Tong asked. 0

"He scolded me harshly," Lin Mingchang replied with a bitter smile. "He said I lack perspective and only know how to create trouble for the police station." 0

"Lin Mingchang," Shen Tong said softly as she gently patted his shoulder. "You did the right thing; you saved several children's lives—that's what matters most." 0

Xiaoshuang pulled out a stack of photos from her backpack and spread them across the table. These documented everything about the case, including an image of Hans Schulman being escorted out of the police station by two consulate personnel, looking smug and composed. 0

Lin Mingchang flipped through the photos with a wry smile. "Even with all this evidence, it still won't bring any consequences for Hans Schulman." 0

"I contacted the newspaper, and they only allowed a brief report on the children being found. They prohibited mentioning any other details, citing 'the greater good' as their reason." Xiaoshuang clenched her fists; she was not someone who would easily give up. "But this isn't over. I have my own ways to spread the photos and information! There will come a day when the truth is revealed!" 0

"And when will that be?" Lin Mingchang looked out at the pouring rain. "Will we have to wait until we're old, until the world changes, for the truth to be known?" 0

No one spoke, no one answered, because some questions simply have no answers. 0
