During this past month, Xiao Hei Mao has been busy. Through connections with the demon clan and the Xian Clan, it gathered quite a bit of important information.
"Meow~" it said while munching on the specially roasted fish snacks I had given it. "Recently, quite a few little demons have mysteriously gone missing. The Demon Clan Leader has organized a special patrol team and investigation group to secretly look into these disappearances."
"Damn Jiang Haotian really made his move!" Su Yan gritted his teeth and said. "Xiaoman, when we act, make sure to bring the copper coins I gave you. My copper coins can do more than just convey messages... Hmph..."
Xiao Hei Mao, with its mouth full of roasted fish, mumbled, "To expose Jiang Haotian, you can't rely on just your mouth; what about evidence?"
"Of course we need evidence, but we don't have time to gather it beforehand," I replied, looking at the few people present. "Because the Jiang Family Annual Meeting is coming up soon!"
The Jiang Family Clan Village was built against the mountains, with the ancient and grand Jiang Family Ancestral Hall at its center. On the day of the Jiang Family Annual Meeting, we arrived early at a hill near the village.
From our elevated position, we watched and waited for the right moment. Soon, people began to gather inside and outside the ancestral hall as the ancestral ceremony commenced.
This meant that Jiang Haotian's courtyard would surely be empty, with only a few trusted aides left behind to guard it.
Now was our chance! I instructed Old Li and Su Yan to continue observing while Xiao Hei Mao and I headed to Jiang Haotian's courtyard to collect evidence.
Jiang Haotian's courtyard was located behind the Jiang Family Ancestral Hall, surrounded by dense bamboo groves. We cautiously made our way over and found that only a few disciples dressed in Jiang family robes were patrolling back and forth.
Each of them possessed considerable cultivation, clearly trusted confidants of Jiang Haotian. We crouched in a tree at the entrance, and as I pondered how to sneak in, Xiao Hei Mao gave me a "ready" look, prompting me to conceal my presence.
I watched as Xiao Hei Mao's eyes narrowed into slits of golden light. It focused on a corner of the courtyard where the air suddenly rippled—there were illusions!
The patrolling disciples immediately sensed this subtle change; they exchanged glances before heading over to investigate. Taking advantage of this distraction, we silently slipped through the front courtyard.
Once inside the main house, I was about to search through the study when I heard A Jing whispering from my collar: "Xiaoman, there's nothing wrong in the main house, but something's off in the back courtyard!"
Xiao Hei Mao had also sensed something unusual in the back courtyard and was already peering around curiously.
I walked over and gently patted it, pointing towards the direction of the backyard.
Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out from behind us.
"Who goes there?!"
I jumped in surprise, nearly losing my balance. I quickly leaned against a pillar, holding my breath in silence.
Beside me, Xiao Hei Mao quietly tapped my foot with its tail, signaling me not to be afraid.
Then it cast its illusion again; a gentle breeze unexpectedly stirred, carrying a faint fragrance that swept across the backyard.
The disciple stared at the few pots of greenery by our feet for a long time, then frowned and muttered, "So it's just the wind..."
After saying that, he scratched his head in confusion and turned to leave.
Just like that, we successfully made our way through the main house and sneaked into the backyard.
Xiao Hei Mao's nose twitched slightly as it headed towards a corner covered in weeds. After sniffing around for a while, it turned to me and pointed with its paw at a piece of Azure Stone Slate beneath our feet.
I squinted and gently scraped the gaps in the stone slab with my Copper Scraper, clearly feeling a layer of Spiritual Power Restriction being broken!
Ha! There really is something here!
