After thanking Li Yun for her tea, Fang Zigui got straight to the point. "Ms. Li, you mentioned yesterday that the 'Xiangjiang Spring Dawn Painting' is a forgery. What evidence do you have?"
Li Yun stood up and retrieved a small embroidered piece from the cabinet. She spread it out on the table. "This is a work by my master, Zhao Yunlan. You can see here that her most distinctive technique is the 'Double Hook Return Stitch.' Look closely; the stitches are fine yet not crowded, with clear layers and a three-dimensional quality."
She paused for a moment, glancing at Cheng Siyun. "While yesterday's 'Xiangjiang Spring Dawn Painting' is indeed beautiful, the part that should have been done by Teacher Zhao does not use the 'Double Hook Return Stitch.' It could not have come from Teacher Zhao's hands!"
Fang Zigui and Ruan Xiaoshuang were novices in this field, but Cheng Siyun understood immediately, her expression shifting to one of realization.
"But, Sister Li," Cheng Siyun pressed on, "we all know that the three teachers collaborated on the 'Xiangjiang Spring Dawn Painting.' If the exhibited piece is a forgery, then where is the original?"
Li Yun shook her head and put away the embroidery. "I don't know, but I have a strong feeling that this matter is somehow connected to the disappearance of the three teachers."
Hearing this from Li Yun made Cheng Siyun feel somewhat deflated. She glanced at her watch and realized she was almost late for her appointment with Lin Mingchang and Shen Tong. She leaned slightly toward Li Yun and said, "Sorry, Sister Li, but I have another two private detectives to meet at Teacher Zhao's studio for an investigation. I need to leave now."
Li Yun nodded in response. "Go ahead, but be careful. If you find anything, please let me know."
Cheng Siyun agreed and nodded to Fang Zigui and Ruan Xiaoshuang before hurrying out.
Once Cheng Siyun left, Li Yun seemed to relax a bit and poured fresh tea for the two men.
Fang Zigui continued from where Li Yun had left off. "Ms. Li, do you have any suspects regarding the disappearance of the three masters?"
Li Yun pondered for a long time before saying with a complex expression, "I can't jump to conclusions. But... I remain wary of the Cheng family because..."
Ruan Xiaoshuang leaned forward eagerly. "Because of what?"
"Because before my teacher went missing, she received a large deposit that I believe is likely related to Cheng Jinsheng."
Meanwhile, Lin Mingchang, Shen Tong, and Cheng Siyun had gathered at Zhao Yunlan's studio located in an old street in the southern part of the city. It was an ancient-style courtyard with a serene environment.
Cheng Siyun knocked on the door while explaining to the two men, "Teacher Zhao's studio and residence are connected; the front yard is her living space while the back yard serves as her studio. Since Teacher Zhao's disappearance, it has been overseen by her son Zhou Fang."
As she spoke, a slender man in his late twenties opened the courtyard door.
"Second brother, long time no see." Cheng Siyun stepped forward to greet him.
Zhou Fang smiled warmly upon seeing Cheng Siyun. "Ah, it's Si Yun! Isn't there an exhibition going on? What brings you here?"
"Second Brother, these are my two friends, Mr. Lin and Miss Shen. They are assisting in the investigation of the three teachers' disappearance case. I would like to ask if they could take a look at Teacher Zhao's studio. Would that be convenient for you?"
Zhou Fang glanced at Lin Mingchang and Shen Tong, particularly studying Shen Tong for a moment longer. It wasn't just because she wore a black eye patch over her right eye; her unique, cool demeanor also made Zhou Fang feel that she was quite special.
"Of course it's convenient! Please, come in!"
