"What is the Tibetan Stitching Method?" the other three asked in unison.
Cheng Siyun nodded, "I remember when I was young, Teacher Zhao once told me that this embroidery technique is on the verge of being lost, with very few people mastering it today... The teacher also mentioned that its uniqueness lies in the ability to hide textual information within the embroidery. Only those who understand this technique can decipher the hidden messages in the pieces."
"I see..." Lin Mingchang pondered aloud, "Is it possible that the three missing Xiang Embroidery Masters are all disciples of the Tibetan Stitching Method?"
"Let's go check out Zhou Yafen's studio," Shen Tong suggested as she put her notebook back on the shelf. "Maybe we can find some answers."
Zhou Yafen's studio was not far from Zhao Yunlan's home, within walking distance.
Cheng Siyun walked Lin Mingchang and Shen Tong to the alley entrance and said regretfully, "Brother Lin, Sister Shen, Teacher Zhou's studio is currently overseen by her apprentice Xiao He. I've already informed him that you two are coming. I need to hurry back to the exhibition; there are still many things I need to help my father with, so I can't accompany you in your investigation."
After watching Cheng Siyun get into a car and leave, Lin Mingchang and Shen Tong arrived at Zhou Yafen's studio door.
Just as Lin Mingchang was about to knock, the door opened from the inside.
However, instead of Zhou Yafen's apprentice Xiao He, it was Cheng Jinsheng who appeared! He was holding a small bundle...
Both sides were momentarily stunned upon seeing each other.
Cheng Jinsheng clearly did not expect to run into Lin Mingchang and Shen Tong here; his expression was one of surprise. "Mr. Lin? Miss Shen? What are you doing here?"
Lin Mingchang and Shen Tong noticed Cheng Jinsheng's flustered demeanor. Lin Mingchang politely greeted him with a smile, saying, "Oh, it's Mr. Cheng! We saw Master Zhou's works at the exhibition yesterday and were quite taken with them, so we wanted to visit the studio. Why didn't you go to the exhibition today?"
"Oh, I... I'm here to pick up some new works from Master Zhou to display at tomorrow's exhibition." Cheng Jinsheng's fingers tightened around the bundle unconsciously as he awkwardly continued, "Um... Xiao He is inside; please feel free to look around. I have something else to attend to, so I must take my leave."
With that, he quickly walked past Shen Tong and Lin Mingchang toward the alley exit, his back appearing somewhat flustered.
At that moment, Xiao He heard the voices at the door and came out to greet them. "Is that Mr. Lin and Miss Shen? Miss Cheng sent someone ahead to inform us; please come in."
Shen Tong skipped any pleasantries and directly asked, "Does Mr. Cheng visit Master Zhou's studio often?"
Xiao He seemed surprised by Shen Tong's question and shook his head. "Not really; he comes occasionally... You..."
Lin Mingchang glanced at Cheng Jinsheng disappearing into the alley and interrupted Xiao He by saying, "Sorry, Xiao He, but we have something urgent to attend to. We'll visit another day."
With that, he pulled Shen Tong along as they hurried after Cheng Jinsheng.
The two noticed that someone of Cheng Jinsheng's status was surprisingly not taking a car.
He walked along, occasionally glancing back, looking quite vigilant. Lin Mingchang and Shen Tong were not novices; they maintained a safe distance throughout. They followed Cheng Jinsheng through several alleys, finally stopping in front of a shop called Jinxiu Workshop.
