"Little Junior Sister, if you don't want anyone to die, you better come out!"
The Senior Brother circled around again, his voice incessantly echoing.
Finally, seeming frustrated at not finding her, he forcefully threw the Horse Head into the carriage and shouted, "I will find you! Remember that!" Then he stomped away.
She let out a long sigh, trying to pry his hand away, but he refused to loosen his grip, signaling her not to move.
Could the Senior Brother really come back?
Just as she thought this, she saw him sprinting back like the wind, circling around twice before leaving in disappointment when he found nothing unusual.
Now he was truly gone.
She collapsed onto the ground, feeling utterly drained.

The sky darkened, and the rain began to pour.
Liu Feng ran over to the carriage, rummaged through it for a while, and returned with a bundle and an umbrella, inviting her to join him.
After hesitating for a long time, she finally nodded.
She needed to find out why the Senior Brother couldn't see her earlier, and the secret seemed to lie with Liu Feng.
Whether it was human power or some magical artifact, she would have to investigate. Besides, following him would help her avoid the Senior Brother—why not?
So he carried the driver’s belongings while they walked together.
The atmosphere was heavy as he asked her name. She had initially planned to make up something random, but when their eyes met, she found herself involuntarily revealing her true name.
"My name is Qin Chunya." Born in spring, her father always said she resembled the new buds on trees, which is why she was given this name.
"Sounds wonderful!" He smiled, his eyes sparkling like water.
Raindrops fell from the umbrella, soaking his shoulder. Noticing that most of his body was outside the shelter, she quietly inched closer to him.
She thought he wouldn’t notice, but to her surprise, he smiled with his eyes crinkling in delight.
This was her first time truly observing him. Although her vision was hindered by her eye condition, his handsome profile was deeply etched in her heart. She found herself lost in the graceful lines of his face.
As night fell, they arrived at a village.
Before she could ask about lodging, the villagers had already begun to call out. It turned out he had come here before to provide free medical consultations.
The village chief arranged for them to stay with a couple. When Qin Chunya emerged after bathing and changing into dry clothes, the hosts seemed taken aback.
Perhaps it was because she had entered looking so disheveled, a stark contrast to her now tidy appearance. She felt a bit awkward herself.
Having grown accustomed to being unkempt, suddenly being clean and neat felt strange. Not to mention, his gaze lingered on her face, making her palms sweat with nervousness.
She brushed her bangs aside, trying to hide her eyes.
"I'm not hungry..."
"Come on, sit down! The hosts have worked hard to prepare a good meal for us; we must finish it," he urged.
The host chimed in, "It's just simple country food; please don't mind it too much, Brother!"
With such words spoken, how could she refuse? She reluctantly took a seat.
Finding the food tasteless was normal; no matter how delicious the meal was, it would feel like a waste in her stomach.
Yet, seeing him enjoy the food so heartily made her reluctant to voice any discouraging thoughts.
After forcing herself to eat a few bites, she seized the opportunity to slip away and sat at the door, lost in thought. She enjoyed daydreaming, believing that emptying her mind of past and future worries would lessen her pain.
She didn't know how long it had been when he sat down beside her, both of them watching the rain.
"Is it because of you that the Senior Brother can't see me?" she asked directly.
"Yes. I've learned some Qi Huang Technique," he replied.
Liu Feng leaned back against the wall, fading into the shadows.
She wanted to ask him for help against the Senior Brother, but they were mere strangers; it felt absurd to ask someone to risk their life for her. Lowering her gaze, she swallowed the words that had almost escaped her lips.
Silence enveloped them for a moment.
After a while, he took off the talisman hanging around his neck and handed it to her.
"This is for you."
"Ah?" As soon as the talisman rested in her palm, she felt a warmth spreading through her, as if the chill that clung to her was being driven away.
But could she accept it?
He seemed to see through her hesitation and said, "I gave it to you because you seem to be troubled by demons; it can prevent them from entering your dreams."
This... In her hesitation, she wanted to open it and take a look, but he pressed his hand down on hers.
Realizing his actions were inappropriate, he quickly released her.
"This talisman is very spiritual; you shouldn't open it."
"Oh? Is there really such a magical thing?" She looked at the talisman in Liu Feng's hand with skepticism.
"Then... shouldn't I accept it even less?"
Having just met by chance, how could she accept something without merit? After a moment's thought, she returned the talisman.
"I can't accept it."
After some persuasion, Liu Feng firmly pressed the talisman into her hand. "How about this: you promise me one thing as a return gift."
"What is it?" She looked at him with confusion.
"I haven't thought of it yet; I'll let you know when I do."
Isn't that essentially giving it away for free?
Seeing her skeptical expression, he added, "Don't worry, that day will come."
And so, she accepted the talisman.
Once it hung around her neck, she felt much warmer, and her mind was at ease throughout the night.
Tonight, surely the Senior Brother wouldn't invade her dreams, right?
She thought.
But she was mistaken.
