The next morning, Liu Feng bid farewell to the villagers and chose a secluded place to settle down, lighting three incense sticks outside their home each day.
Before May Third, they enjoyed a joyful time together.
During the day, he took her up the mountain to gather herbs, explaining the origins and stories behind various medicinal plants amidst the dappled shadows of the trees. Occasionally, they would sit on a large rock by the stream to rest, where she quietly listened to him recount his experiences—both joyful and painful.
At night, they would fall asleep in each other's arms. Sometimes, he would embrace her passionately, sharing their warmth; other times, she would kiss him gently after he had fallen asleep.
In those moments, he would suddenly awaken, then relax and allow her to do as she pleased.
Perhaps it was the approach of May Third that stirred unease in her heart; she felt the need to stay close to him for comfort.
He said she was like a child, and she readily replied, “Yes, yes! I am a child!”
Then she would nuzzle against him with all her might.
He smiled gently and finally held her tightly in his arms, his gaze falling on the protective talisman she wore. He repeatedly reminded her, “Don’t lose it. As long as you have it, we can find each other even if we become separated in the future.”
She nodded and carefully tucked the talisman into her clothing, treating it like a treasure.
Joyful days always seem to pass quickly, and before they knew it, May Third had arrived.
At noon, the sun was obscured by dark clouds; a chilling wind blew through the air, causing even the animals in the forest to cry out restlessly.
He pressed a strange talisman into her hand and told her that if Clairvoyant Eyes caught them, she should stick it to his forehead to stop his movements.
As soon as he finished speaking, the three incense sticks burned out.
Everything suddenly fell silent, save for the approaching footsteps of Clairvoyant Eyes.
The sound grew closer until it finally stopped.
“So it was you who summoned me!” Clairvoyant Eyes lifted his robe to wipe the blood from his blade. “If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have bothered asking the villagers.”
“You… killed them?” She clenched her fists tightly at the thought of the kind couple who had taken her in, her body trembling with anger. “So what if you did?”
“You’ve caused so much slaughter among humans; aren’t you afraid of retribution?” Liu Feng’s expression darkened.
"Everything started because of her," Clairvoyant Eyes sneered at Chunya. "Even if there's retribution, it will be shared among the three of us. Don't think you'll have a good ending."
As soon as he finished speaking, he lunged at Liu Feng with his knife.
Liu Feng pushed Chunya aside, dodged the attack, and drew his sword to confront Clairvoyant Eyes.
The clash of blades filled the air as the light from their weapons met, ringing out in sharp sounds.
Both fighters were evenly matched, which made Chunya's heart race with anxiety.
After a prolonged battle, they finally separated and began to unleash their magical powers in mid-air. The blue energy belonged to Liu Feng, while the black energy was from Clairvoyant Eyes. This time, Liu Feng gained the upper hand, forcing Clairvoyant Eyes to retreat step by step.
In the heat of battle, Clairvoyant Eyes concentrated all his power into his knife and threw it with all his might. He used his hair to entangle the blade, redirecting the attack back at Clairvoyant Eyes.
The knife struck Clairvoyant Eyes on the shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground and kick up a cloud of dust. He got back up, unwilling to concede defeat, and kicked a stone from the ground toward Liu Feng. Taking advantage of Liu Feng's momentary distraction, he grabbed Chunya and pressed his long, sharp nails against her forehead.
"I should really thank you for protecting Heavenly Eye so well! I've got it back!" he said as he exerted pressure, pushing his hand deeper.
"Chunya!" Liu Feng shouted just as she trembled and pressed the talisman he had given her earlier onto Clairvoyant Eyes' forehead, finally managing to immobilize him.
Chunya let out a sigh of relief, her legs weakening as she fell backward.
Liu Feng rushed to catch her, holding her tightly in his arms and feeling that she was indeed alive. His heart finally settled back into place.
The wind suddenly calmed significantly, and the dark clouds dispersed to reveal a bright blue sky and a blazing sun.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"I'm fine! How about you?" She held him tightly, feeling his warmth and heartbeat.
"I'm alright."
It seemed like it was about to end.
As long as—Clairvoyant Eyes was killed.
He said softly, "Don't hate me."
"Liu Feng, killing me will only turn you into a demon!"
Once the killing begins, one falls into the path of darkness.
"So what?" The sword pointed at the forehead of Clairvoyant Eyes, Liu Feng said, "Exchanging my lifetime of reputation for the wrongs I've caused is worth it!"
Keeping Clairvoyant Eyes alive would only bring more suffering to others, just like those he had killed.
Liu Feng's gaze grew more resolute.
He took a deep breath, thrusting the sword forward with force, piercing Clairvoyant Eyes' head and twisting it, creating a bloody hole in his forehead.
Blood gushed out, yet Clairvoyant Eyes remained standing straight, still alive, shouting, "You dare to kill me! Ahhh—"
The piercing scream echoed through the mountains and forests, startling flocks of birds that burst from the trees and soared into the sky.
Chunya's heart raced in fear.
Even though she was being hunted by Clairvoyant Eyes and had witnessed many bloody scenes, she still couldn't get used to it. Moreover, Clairvoyant Eyes was still alive and screaming.
Was it too cruel? She couldn't help but close her eyes, turn her face away, and plug her ears with her fingers.
