My hands danced in the air, like a conductor leading an invisible symphony. Code Storm erupted from my fingertips, transforming into countless golden data streams that twisted and spiraled through the air, coalescing into a sharp virtual sword.
Zhou Kai's subordinates stared in shock at this scene, hurriedly attempting to activate their defense programs, but it was already too late. I let out a cold laugh, and with a wave of my hand, the sword energy surged forth. Code Storm swept over them like a tsunami, instantly tearing apart their defenses.
"How is this possible!" one of the black-clad men shouted in terror as his virtual shield shattered like paper under my attack.
In the blink of an eye, all ten or so black-clad figures fell to the ground, leaving only Zhou Kai standing there, his expression shifting between anger and disbelief. He stared at me intently, his eyes flickering with resentment and fury.
"Lin Xi, I didn't expect your strength to grow so quickly," Zhou Kai said coldly, jealousy dripping from his tone. "But don’t think that will be enough to defeat me!"
He suddenly raised his hand, and a torrent of dark code surged from his palm. I remained calm, bringing my fingers together to draw a graceful arc in the air. A golden code barrier rose up in response, firmly blocking his attack.
"Is that all you've got?" I taunted, pushing off the ground with my feet and launching myself toward Zhou Kai like an arrow released from its bow.
Our battle unfolded on the boundary between the virtual and the real. Zhou Kai was an experienced fighter; every move he made was vicious and lethal. But I was no longer that novice programmer; countless life-and-death experiences in Eden had honed my programming skills far beyond those of ordinary people.
Zhou Kai's attacks were flashy but impractical, like elaborate code designed merely for show—full of vulnerabilities. In contrast, I pursued simplicity and efficiency; every line of code had its purpose—clean and precise.
After ten exchanges, Zhou Kai began to show signs of fatigue. Sweat beaded on his forehead, his fingers trembled slightly, and errors started to appear in the code he inputted. Seizing the opportunity, I stepped forward swiftly, unleashing a flurry of lightning-fast maneuvers before his eyes.
"This can't be happening!" Zhou Kai exclaimed as I peeled away layers of his defense system with ease, like peeling an onion.
I sneered at him. "Zhou Kai, you rely too much on those flashy yet inefficient algorithms. A true programming master seeks the perfect combination of elegance and efficiency in their code."
Cornered by my relentless assault, a glint of malice flashed in Zhou Kai's eyes. Suddenly, a strange smile crept across his face as he quickly drew an odd symbol in front of his chest with his right hand.
"Watch out!" Su Qing's voice called out from behind me. Before I could react, a wave of icy energy rushed toward me.
This was Zhou Kai's hidden trick—he had activated a backdoor program buried deep within the system, bypassing conventional defenses. If hit by it, my consciousness would likely be trapped permanently within Eden.
At the critical moment, a slender figure flashed in front of me. It was Su Qing! With her hands forming seals, a transparent Data Shield instantly materialized, blocking Zhou Kai's lethal strike.
"Lin Xi, I’ll cover you!" Su Qing gritted her teeth, bracing against the attack as cracks began to appear on the shield.
I didn’t waste this precious opportunity. I circled behind Zhou Kai, my fingers dancing in the air like they were playing a piano. A dazzling stream of golden code came to life, forming an invisible net that enveloped Zhou Kai from all directions.
"No!" Zhou Kai screamed in terror, frantically inputting code in an attempt to break free, but it was too late. My code net firmly ensnared him, and his virtual image began to blur.
"Lin Xi, do you think you've won?" Despite his imminent defeat, Zhou Kai still wore a strange smile. "You haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg of the truth."
I coldly stared at him. "Speak. Who is your mastermind?"
Zhou Kai laughed painfully. "The founder of Genesis Corporation—he is the true master of Eden. The Reincarnation Game is merely a tool for him to select and cultivate elite programmers."
"Why do this?" I pressed on.
Zhou Kai's body was already starting to disintegrate into countless Data Fragments. "He needs the best programmers to complete his Divine Engineering... You will find out... but by then... it might be too late..."
With those words, Zhou Kai completely vanished from the virtual space, leaving behind a string of encrypted coordinate data floating in the air.
Su Qing walked over and gently took my hand. "Are you okay?"
I shook my head, capturing the string of coordinate data. "Zhou Kai left this before he died; it should be a key to somewhere."
After analyzing the coordinates, Su Qing and I arrived deep underground at the headquarters of Genesis Corporation. According to the data, there was a secret laboratory hidden here.
"It looks like the security measures are quite tight," Su Qing whispered, pointing at the densely packed sensors and patrolling robots on the walls.
I carefully observed my surroundings. "The defense system uses a layered architecture. We need to hack into the main control system first and then break through layer by layer."
"I'll handle those robots; you focus on cracking the system," Su Qing said, pulling a small EMP Generator from her pocket, her eyes shining with determination.
I nodded and took out my portable terminal from my backpack, launching an attack on the defense system. This system was more complex than I had imagined, with layers of encryption. Each time I broke through a layer, a new defense mechanism would trigger.
"This is a bit troublesome," I muttered through clenched teeth, my fingers flying over the keyboard. Sweat dripped from my forehead, but I couldn't afford to let my guard down for a second.
As I concentrated on hacking the system, three armed robots turned the corner and spotted us. Su Qing sprang into action, her movements graceful yet lethal like a dance. The first robot barely had time to react before she disabled it with her EMP Generator; the second one was about to sound an alarm when she executed a beautiful spinning kick that knocked out its communication module; the third began to deploy an electric net, but Su Qing deftly rolled to the side, evading the attack and pressed the EMP Generator against its control panel.
"Lin Xi, hurry up! More robots are coming!" Su Qing urged.
I took a deep breath and summoned all my programming skills, my hands moving rapidly across the keyboard. Finally, at the moment I breached the sixth layer of the firewall, the entire defense system fell into brief chaos.
"Now's our chance!" I shouted, grabbing Su Qing and rushing toward the heavy metal door deep within. The door slowly opened to reveal a vast laboratory surrounded by dozens of supercomputers, with a massive device radiating strange light at its center.
"What is this..." Su Qing gasped in shock at the sight before us.
My gaze landed on a display screen in the center of the lab, flashing two chilling words: "Divine Engineering."
"It seems we've found the right place," I murmured. "What experiments has the founder of Genesis Corporation been conducting here?"
In the distance, alarm bells began to blare sharply as more security systems activated. We knew that the real challenge was just beginning.
