Looking at the long, slender hand with distinct joints stretched out in front of her, she hesitated for a moment before taking it. She didn't think too much about it; in her heart, her senior brother was different—someone she could trust wholeheartedly.
"Let's go, there are soldiers coming over there." Su Peijiu pulled her head back and dragged Ji Yu in the opposite direction. The only place in Chang'an that she knew was absolutely safe was the Azure Dragon Gang.
Since her first visit, she hadn't been back. Now, with this pig-headed face, she wondered if her elder brother, Second Brother, would recognize her. She felt even uglier last time...
As they entered the alley, she cautiously knocked on the door. Before long, a child with braided hair came to open it, revealing a round head outside. The child asked earnestly, "Who are you looking for?"
Su Peijiu awkwardly replied, "I am the third sister of the Azure Dragon Gang, here to see my elder brother, Second Brother."
Upon hearing that it was the Azure Dragon Gang, the child shouted without closing the door, "Elder Brother, Third Sister is back!"
Supporting Ji Yu, who looked weak from obvious blood loss, Su Peijiu heard a shout from inside: "What? What did you say? Repeat that."
"Second Brother, Third Sister is back. The Azure Dragon Gang finally has everyone together." The child called Er Zi shouted while holding his waist, his chubby bottom sticking out.
Er Long rushed out holding a basin of beans and paused when he saw Su Peijiu. Unsure, he asked, "Are you Third Sister?"
Su Peijiu nodded. "I disguised myself last time and I’m really sorry for not telling you, Elder Brother. This time I want to stay with you to help my senior brother recover..." Her voice grew softer as she felt a bit embarrassed.
Er Long slapped his forehead. "What are you still doing outside? Come in quickly! I'll hurry and get Elder Brother to fetch some medicine; he will be very happy to know Third Sister is back."
Er Zi nodded and walked ahead. "You all come in; your room is right up front."
"My room?" Su Peijiu exclaimed in surprise. "Why would there be a room for me here?"
Er Zi looked at her disdainfully. "Elder Brother said that since you're part of the Azure Dragon Gang, you should have your own place here. So we built you a room."
Suppressing her inner emotions, Su Peijiu helped Ji Yu inside and assisted him in sitting on the flowery bedspread.
"I didn't expect you to know people here," Ji Yu said softly as he leaned against the piled blankets. His face had lost all color and appeared even more delicate and handsome against his red clothing.
Su Peijiu brought a stool to sit beside him, looking at the busy crowd at the door. Water Eyes said gently, "By chance... I just arrived, and thanks to them, I haven't been consumed by thoughts of revenge against the world for leading me astray..." They gave her warmth from strangers, for which she would be grateful all her life.
Ji Yu remained silent, his gaze fixed on the woman looking toward the door. Her profile was beautiful; this quiet side of her was something he had never seen before...
"There are no other good medicines; this is the golden sore medicine given by a young master last time..." Big Dragon took a pile of medicine bottles and pulled out a ceramic bottle, handing it to Su Peijiu.
Su Peijiu reached out to take it and heard Big Dragon say, "Well, Third Sister resembles that young master a bit."
She felt a bit embarrassed and suddenly recalled the last time Second Brother was taught a lesson by Su Xingyan when she disguised herself as a man to rescue him. Could this be the medicine from that time?
"Is there any medicine to reduce swelling?" Ji Yu suddenly asked.
Big Dragon thought for a moment and pulled out a white porcelain bottle from the pile. "This is what we use to relieve swelling from mosquito bites; I don't know if it will help."
Su Peijiu quickly spoke up, "My face is fine; Senior Brother, lie down quickly, I'll apply the medicine for you."
"You'll apply medicine for me?" Ji Yu raised an eyebrow, his expression somewhat strange.
Su Peijiu nodded. "Is there something wrong with that?"
Big Dragon stood aside, feeling awkward. "If this brother doesn't mind, I can help you apply...?" The word 'apply' suddenly caught in his throat as he noticed the cold glare from the man in red on the bed. "I just remembered I have something to do, so I'll leave first. Third Sister, make sure to apply medicine for this brother well." He chuckled awkwardly, not knowing why he wanted to leave this house.
The room fell silent again with just the two of them, and the quiet atmosphere made Su Peijiu suddenly think of how men and women should not have close contact, causing her cheeks to heat up slightly.
Hearing Ji Yu's sharp intake of breath, she hurriedly asked, "Is your wound hurting again?"
Ji Yu nodded, his expression quite innocent, making Su Peijiu unable to resist wanting to reach out and pat his head.
"Hurry and lie down; I'll apply the medicine for you. Otherwise, your wound will fester."
Ji Yu obediently lay down and muttered softly, "Okay."
...Why is Senior Brother so gentle? Su Peijiu's hand holding the medicine bottle trembled slightly. Was it because the wound was too deep, affecting the nerves?
She gently helped him take off his outer garment. When it came time to remove the undergarment, she discovered that the fabric had already stuck to the wound, large patches of blood staining the undergarment, a fiery red that almost burned her eyes.
Su Peijiu's heart ached: "Senior Brother, bear with it; it might hurt a bit." Then she carefully used her hands to slowly peel off the undergarment...
She didn't notice the man lying on the bed, his phoenix eyes brimming with barely contained laughter.
After Su Peijiu finally removed the undergarment, drenched in sweat, the sight of the wound made her heart drop.
The last time in the Demon Cult's hot spring pool, she hadn't seen Senior Brother's back, so she had no idea how much pain he had endured while appearing so carefree and unconcerned. The scars—old and new—were densely packed across his back, especially on his shoulders, where a knife wound that almost exposed bone was bleeding profusely...
Even like this... even like this, he still held her and dealt with Bai Shuangya for a long time? Even like this, he still wanted to get her to safety?
Covering her mouth, tears streamed down her face. She considered herself not someone who cried easily, but seeing someone willing to think of her wholeheartedly, disregarding their own injuries and even their own life... she couldn't help but choke up.
"Does it hurt?" She gently wiped away the blood around his wound with a damp cloth, her hand resting on a pink scar.
Ji Yu paused for a moment and then spoke softly: "It doesn't hurt anymore; I've gotten used to it." Did the girl feel bad for him? It seemed like she was even crying...
"Used to it?" Used to pain? Who could get used to pain?
Su Peijiu opened the bottle cap and slowly sprinkled the medicine powder on him. Watching him tremble in pain, her heartache almost enveloped her.
"Ge'er is feeling sorry for me?"
Surprisingly, Su Peijiu did not refute him; she nodded: "Yes." She felt sorry for everyone who treated her well; she felt sorry that he didn't take better care of himself. After being reborn, she realized that she needed to cherish these emotional bonds even more.
"This is Ge'er's second time seeing my body; do you intend to take responsibility?" A teasing male voice slowly broke through her sorrow.
"Senior Brother, as the Demon Cult Leader, is so innocent? Junior Sister does not believe it."
"This is true. Before Junior Sister, Senior Brother had always been pure and untouched, not even holding a girl's hand... Look at you, today you held Senior Brother's hand and even looked at his body..." Ji Yu said, sulking but unable to hide his smile. "Aren't you planning to find a time to marry Senior Brother?"
Su Peijiu replied, "..." His hand was clearly offered by him; does looking at his back count as seeing his body? Is it necessary to keep one's eyes open while applying medicine? "Does Senior Brother plan to let Junior Sister watch him bleed to death?"
Ji Yu pouted, "What an unlovable girl."
Su Peijiu smiled lightly and continued applying the medicine. Slowly, she wrapped the gauze around his wound and tied it off.
Ji Yu immediately sat up, puzzled, and asked, "Have you bandaged someone before?" How could she be so skilled when she had been pampered?
Su Peijiu was tidying up the medicine bottles. "I helped Qi Mo bandage his wound once when he was injured."
A fleeting glimmer of light appeared in Ji Yu's phoenix eyes before quickly disappearing.
"What’s wrong?" Su Peijiu asked curiously.
"Nothing, just curious," Ji Yu replied as he leaned back against the bedding, looking at her still swollen and beautiful face. He beckoned her over. "Come here."
"What for?" She put down the bloody clothes and walked over slowly.
"Close your eyes," Ji Yu softly commanded. Su Peijiu obediently closed her eyes and felt a cool sensation on her face; the swelling pain immediately vanished. She opened her eyes in surprise and happened to see Senior Brother's lips coming closer. She quickly raised her hand to block him. "What do you want to do?"
Ji Yu regretfully opened his eyes. "Ge'er took advantage of me so much; Senior Brother thinks it's unfair."
Su Peijiu spat at him playfully, stood up, and touched her face, feeling that the swelling had reduced significantly. "Did Senior Brother apply medicine for me?"
Ji Yu had already closed his eyes again, pretending to doze off and did not speak anymore. Su Peijiu shrugged indifferently, hugged a pile of bloody clothes, and went out. When she returned, she had an additional gray men's outer garment in her hands. "This really is Second Brother's clothes; they haven't been worn yet. Senior Brother should take care of himself."
Suddenly, three bird calls came from outside. Su Peijiu frowned and walked out. The people from Nan Xie Tower had arrived... Didn't she tell them not to interfere in her matters?
After she left, the man who had been pretending to sleep in the room opened his eyes. At the same time, a figure in black appeared kneeling on the ground. "Master."
"How is everything?"
"The influence of the Desolate King is unfathomable; everyone we sent has gone missing."
Ji Yu's eyes flashed with cold light. "There's no need to let our brothers die. This matter will not end here! How dare they openly reach for what belongs to our Demon Sect? Do they really think no one can deal with them?!"
The man in black continued, "Not only us from the Demon Sect, but it seems the Desolate King has also disturbed other martial arts sects. Cangjian Villa has sent people as well."
"Cangjian Villa?" Ji Yu stroked his chin, deep in thought. Could he be looking for something?
"You may leave now. I have no further matters here; recall a batch of Shadow Guards to guard the Demon Sect."
"Understood!" The man in black responded and vanished.
Ji Yu looked at the woman walking toward the door outside the window, his gaze deep.
What is Qi Mo really looking for? In such a tumultuous and sensitive time, he dares to provoke the martial world. Does he truly care about nothing?
