Before we were born into this world, Fate and Buddha had already determined our destinies, weaving intricate relationships and intertwining deep affections with fleeting connections. Those who come into this world, whether bound or unbound, are destined to be entangled with someone...
Having barely escaped from Master Duannian, Su Peijiu parted ways with Hua Qian and made her way toward the back mountain alone. She remembered that Master Duannian had a hot spring beyond the mountain. After arriving in a rush yesterday, she was now being called to attend morning classes again, leaving her feeling unclean and somewhat intolerant.
After searching for a while without finding the hot spring Master Duannian mentioned, she found herself lost and unable to return. It was afternoon, and the warm sun filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground. In a good mood, she stepped lightly on the patches of light along the path as she walked up the mountain, with the sound of rustling wind and faint birdsong in the branches.
Following this winding path whose destination she did not know, she bounced along like a child. A gray Nun's robe draped over her slender figure, and backlit by the sun, she resembled a delicate silhouette reminiscent of six years ago when a similar figure had walked unsteadily along the walls of Great Yan City, startling a group of Eunuchs.
Someone in a crescent moon robe gazed from the dense trees, looking just like a memory. Watching the woman whose three thousand strands of hair playfully cascaded from beneath her hat, their eyes were filled with tenderness.
Su Peijiu walked along the path for quite some time without seeing any signs of life. Just as she was about to sit down to rest, she caught a faint whiff of sulfur. Her Water Eyes brightened as she followed the scent. The closer she got to it, the stronger the sulfur smell became, and the mist gradually thickened until she finally found the location of the hot spring.
There was only one hot spring at Matang Mountain, and it was not entirely natural; it had an air of being artificially sculpted and was quite exquisite.
Exquisite meant that it wasn't as large as one might imagine, but this hot spring was different from others; it was a Blood-Colored Hot Spring Pool.
Thus, Su Peijiu stood at the edge of the pool in a daze. The blood color was intense, even the rising mist was tinged with red. She hesitated about whether to step in when suddenly her ankle throbbed painfully. She looked down just in time to see a yellowish snake wriggling its way into the grass. Upon inspecting her ankle, she noticed two crimson spots.
Had she been bitten by the snake? Was it venomous?
These were the only two thoughts racing through Su Peijiu's mind. Gritting her teeth, she sat down, removed her socks, cradled her foot in her hands, and began to ponder whether to suck out the venom... or not? That was indeed a dilemma.
Just then, someone emerged from another part of the forest—a person dressed in white with an Emerald Green Jade Pendant hanging from their waist. The pendant bore obvious cracks as if it had been dropped.
The person’s face was covered, revealing only a pair of clear eyes that seemed like June's spring breeze brushing past. Su Peijiu was surprised by the tenderness reflected in those eyes.
This person was clearly someone she had never met before; why did their gaze hold so much concern for her?
"Are you okay?" A voice as cold as jade sounded. Su Peijiu came back to her senses and shook her head, her expression shy: "I got bitten, but I don't know if this snake is poisonous."
The person sat down beside her without saying a word, grasped her ankle, then tore off his own scarf, opening his red lips to suck out the poisoned blood. Su Peijiu was so frightened that she screamed.
"What’s wrong?" The person looked at her with a hint of warmth in his smile.
Su Peijiu felt her face heat up; this person was really good-looking.
Her hands involuntarily pressed together, and she said nervously, "Um... It's our first meeting and we’re having skin contact like this... It seems... it seems not very appropriate..." Blushing as she spoke, she felt as if her chest was about to be burned.
The person held her foot firmly, not letting go at all. Tilting his head and thinking for a moment, he said with a truly innocent expression: "This is indeed not very good."
Su Peijiu forced a smile and pointed at her ankle: "So just let go; I can do it myself."
"And how are you going to do that?" he asked. Su Peijiu looked at the wound where dark blood was gradually seeping out, making a distressed face: "I guess I’ll have to suck it out myself."
"And then the poison enters your internal organs and you’ll be completely doomed." He laughed mockingly.
Su Peijiu blushed: "Then what should I do?"
"I'll help you." He leaned closer, his warm breath brushing against Su Peijiu's porcelain-white face, causing her to immediately hold her breath and widen her eyes. She then saw him smirk mischievously: "But a girl's feet shouldn't be seen by outsiders casually. Since I've seen them, I’ll take responsibility for you."
"Take responsibility?" She stumbled over her words, then looked at him in disbelief. She didn't know if it was the poison or if she was lacking oxygen, but her mind felt muddled.
His large hand completely enveloped her foot, his voice very soft: "I'm quite in demand; you should be secretly happy." He leaned in closer to the wound, and the first mouthful of poisoned blood was sucked out and spat onto the ground.
Su Peijiu noticed his attractive brows and eyes slightly furrowed, her heart racing as she felt the warmth coming from her ankle. She was too shy to look up at him.
This stranger had seen her ankle the moment he appeared and was now drawing out the poison from her blood. Under the guise of saving her, he kept making such reckless moves and even verbally took advantage of her, yet she didn't feel angry at all.
"Don't worry, I have a body that is immune to all poisons," he said, extracting the black blood until healthy-colored blood appeared before he stopped. He pulled out a clean handkerchief from his pocket to bandage her wound.
Su Peijiu averted her gaze awkwardly. "Who’s worried?"
"The poison has been drawn out; you’re fine now," he chuckled lightly. Su Peijiu shifted her foot but remained still. "Then why are you still holding my ankle?"
"You haven't told me your name yet. What if you run away?"
Su Peijiu kicked him in frustration. "You’re really ridiculous, a good-for-nothing!" She cursed as she stood up, causing her hat to fall to the ground. Just as she bent down to pick it up, she saw a long, slender hand with distinct joints picking it up.
"Are you the Nun of Matang Mountain?" he asked with a playful tone.
Su Peijiu snatched her hat back and glared at him. "Mind your own business." In a hurry, she ran down the mountain but stumbled and fell due to the paralysis from the poison, cutting her palm on sharp rocks.
The man behind her quickly pulled her into his embrace, a fragrant scent enveloping her.
In a daze, Su Peijiu looked up and saw his strong jawline, then heard his elegant voice say, "Why act so recklessly? Am I the Beast of Flood?"
Su Peijiu bit her lip in silence, trying to pull her hand back but was stopped.
"A woman should take better care of herself; if you're injured, you need to apply medicine promptly." As he spoke, a cool sensation rose in his palm as he took out some ointment from who knows where to apply on her wound.
In order to avoid feeling too embarrassed, she cleared her throat and said, "Hey, how did you end up here?"
After being tapped on the forehead, she looked over in a panic and gazed into a pair of deep, dark eyes.
"Remember, I don't go by 'Hey'... My name is Qi Yuchen! You better remember this name because it will accompany you for the rest of your life." The man in front of her finished this sentence with a charming arrogance, leaving Su Peijiu completely stunned.
"It's already done, Nun." Qi Yuchen smiled as he wrapped his arm around her waist and stood up, pointing to a path. "That's the way out; you should leave."
Su Peijiu walked dazedly toward that direction when a male voice came from behind her: "Nun, we will meet again."
Their first encounter was due to fate; later, they parted ways unwillingly, leading to further calculations of fate for the next time and the next.
Qi Yuchen set a trap, waiting for Qin Ge to jump in, determined to ensnare this person at all costs.
Ever since he learned that Zhang Cheng had a Forgetfulness Pill, he had made plans. Originally, he intended to wait until After All Sails Have Passed before making her take it, but he miscalculated his timing and underestimated her intelligence.
The apology in Chang'an became the catalyst; he played along and had her take the pill...
He just never expected the effects of the pill would come so quickly. She truly forgot him, forgot everything between them... forgot all those loves and hates, national grievances and personal grudges.
In this world, she remembered everything except him, forgetting everything related to him.
Qi Yuchen, you succeeded...
Su Peijiu ran out from the back mountain, covering her face, and happened to bump into the Nun who was cleaning. She quickly clasped her hands and bowed, saying, "Shishu, I apologize."
The Nun, holding a broom seriously, returned the greeting: "Release, why did you come down from the back mountain in such a hurry?"
Su Peijiu Dharma Name Release was the name given to her by the Abbotess of Matang Mountain when she first saw her. She remembered Master's words at that time: "Your ties to the mundane are too deep, your obsessions too painful. Why not Release... thus your Dharma Name shall be Release."
The ties to the mundane are too deep, the obsessions too painful.
Master was hers; she wasn't quite sure why Master said that. Now she felt very relaxed. Although she had been punished by the emperor to repent and admit her mistakes, there were many people around her who cared for her. She didn't feel that there was anything that caused her pain. Although sometimes she felt a sense of loneliness in her chest, she had asked Hua Qian, and since Hua Qian was fine, it probably meant everything was fine.
She would just be a leisurely Queen Lord, enjoying her comfort.
"Shishu, please don't blame me. Release just went to the back mountain to take a look."
The Nun frowned as she noticed the leaves and dust on her clothes, finally landing her gaze on Release's ankle: "Release, is your ankle injured?"
"Not at all, haha... Shishu, you carry on with your work. Release has things to do; Master called for me to help with the incense offering. I'm off now... hahaha..." Su Peijiu retreated while laughing, and once she reached a safe distance, she dashed away. The Nun, holding the broom, stood still and shook her head: "Release is really something."
Breathless, she rushed into her room, pushed the door open, and shouted, "Qian Qian, come help me! I've been bitten by a snake!"
