After breakfast, the group continued their journey in a grand manner.
Due to nearly not sleeping all night, Xiao Yao had barely been on the carriage for an hour before she leaned against the wall of the carriage and fell asleep.
However, although they were traveling on a well-paved official road, it was still bound to be bumpy. He Yu read for a while, then looked up to see Xiao Yao's head bobbing along with the swaying of the carriage. It was quite alarming, as it seemed her head might just fall off her neck.
He Yu smiled helplessly, put down his book, and reached out to adjust Xiao Yao's position. But unexpectedly, the carriage hit a stone, jolting violently. Xiao Yao's head slammed against the window frame, causing He Yu to jump up and quickly reach out, "Are you okay? Did it hurt?"
"Ugh..." Xiao Yao pouted in grievance, looking at He Yu with tear-filled eyes. "It hurts..."
"Come here, let me see if you’re injured," He Yu said, feeling a bit flustered at her cry of pain. He hurriedly leaned forward to check. However, Xiao Yao turned towards him and directly fell into his arms, instinctively finding a comfortable position and falling back asleep.
Well, it seemed she hadn’t fully woken up yet. He Yu found it both amusing and exasperating. Nevertheless, he felt quite pleased with Xiao Yao's spontaneous embrace and continued to hold her while reading.
The carriage jolted along, and Xiao Yao slept soundly.
When she finally stirred and turned over, she heard a cheerful voice above her head say, "Awake? Do you want to sit up for a bit?"
"Huh?" Still groggy from sleep, Xiao Yao momentarily couldn't figure out where she was and instinctively responded.
He Yu chuckled softly and pinched Xiao Yao's nose. "You’re not fully awake yet; you’re almost drooling."
Annoyed, Xiao Yao swatted away He Yu's hand and then was shocked to realize she was lying in his arms! She pushed him away abruptly. "Hey! You took advantage of me while I was asleep!"
"That's not fair," He Yu laughed, pointing to a wet spot on his chest from her drool. "You were the one who fell asleep on me; how can you blame me?"
Regarding He Yu, Xiao Yao expressed skepticism, but upon seeing the drool stain on He Yu's chest, she felt embarrassed and blushed. However, she stubbornly insisted, "The carriage is so big, how could I possibly run over to hug you while sleeping? Don't try to fool me."
"What do you mean by fooling you?" He Yu chuckled, finding Xiao Yao's flustered and blushing demeanor particularly cute. "As for why you took the initiative to hug me, how would I know? I suggest you ask yourself that question." He Yu calmly redirected the topic back to Xiao Yao, who was at a loss against He Yu's familiarity with the complex social circles of the capital. She could only close her mouth in embarrassment and anger.
After pondering for a moment, Xiao Yao began to tidy her hair and clothes.
"What's wrong? Not planning to sleep anymore?" He Yu teased.
"How could I dare to sleep again? If I wake up from my next nap and find out you've ruined your reputation because of me, what would I do?" Xiao Yao said without looking at He Yu, her words dripping with sarcasm. It seemed that he had upset his wife; realizing he might have gone too far, He Yu replied, "It's not that serious; you're overthinking it."
"This matter doesn't allow for overthinking," Xiao Yao said while adjusting the buttons on her clothes, her tone irritated. "The entire caravan belongs to the prince; naturally, he can do as he pleases. Even if it's black turning white, no one would dare to refute him. As a mere commoner, how could I possibly compare myself to the prince?"
"Xiao Yao..." He Yu called out helplessly.
Xiao Yao ignored him and directly ordered the carriage to stop, determined to climb down.
"What are you doing?" He Yu grabbed Xiao Yao's hand and frowned as he asked sternly, "We're on the road; you can't throw a tantrum!"
"I'm not throwing a tantrum!" Xiao Yao tried to shake off He Yu's hand and retorted coldly, "Didn't I dirty your clothes? I'm just going somewhere out of your sight so I won't be bothering you anymore or dirtying your precious clothes."
"Xiao Yao, don't be ridiculous."
"I'm not being ridiculous!" Xiao Yao huffed defiantly. "Let me down!"
"Are you still not going to stop this nonsense?! The entire caravan is delayed because of you alone. Is this just you throwing a tantrum? Xiao Yao, do you really think this prince can't do anything about you? Have you gotten used to causing trouble?" He Yu's voice turned cold, and it was raised enough to make the entourage led by Zhao Hezhong outside the carriage shiver collectively, cautiously glancing at the carriage.
After all, the prince is the prince; his demeanor and aura cannot be feigned easily. When he becomes truly serious, the chill can be felt by everyone around. Xiao Yao had never seen this side of He Yu. He pressed his lips together, not furrowing his brow even once, but the cold light and anger in his eyes alternated like a deep pool, making it impossible to tell whether the ice arrows or flames would emerge from it. Regardless of which, it would undoubtedly be unpleasant.
Xiao Yao felt bewildered. She had inexplicably traveled to this world, then inexplicably received this so-called prince, and now she had inexplicably been betrothed to this charming prince, only to have angered him now. Throughout it all, her subconscious had been filled with an unclear sense of unease that she couldn't express, which she could only suppress deep within her heart as she journeyed along.
At this moment, being intimidated by He Yu, Xiao Yao suddenly felt like there was something stuck in her throat. She glared at He Yu, trying hard to tell herself, "Don't cry, absolutely don't cry!" However, her eyes involuntarily turned red.
When He Yu saw Xiao Yao's eyes turn red in an instant, he was taken aback, realizing that he might have been too harsh with his words. He immediately started to comfort her in a flustered manner, "Alright, alright, just stay in the carriage. I won't hold anything against you. I’m not mad at you, okay?"
If He Yu had maintained a firmer attitude, perhaps Xiao Yao could have held on and sought out Xiao Mo Yi.
However, at this moment, He Yu's attitude softened suddenly, and feelings of grievance surrounded Xiao Yao, encircling her deliberately strong and optimistic heart.
Thus, caught off guard by He Yu, he watched helplessly as large tears streamed down Xiao Yao's cheeks.
