The police at Midnight had not encountered anyone else aside from a few on-duty officers and some drunk drivers. One of the officers raised an eyebrow and glanced at Qing Cang and Shen Qingyou, casually asking, "Are you two here to report a case or to confess?"
"Confess?" Qing Cang furrowed his handsome brows. "We are here to give a statement!"
"Give a statement?"
The officer looked up. "In the middle of the night, you want to give a statement?"
The officer's arrogant attitude darkened Qing Cang's expression. Just as he was about to step forward, Shen Qingyou pulled him back. She stepped up and smiled at the officer, saying, "Comrade, we are the victims of those thugs who were brought to the police station earlier. We are here to give our statements!"
"You two are the couple that those guys were causing trouble with in the middle of the night?"
The officer looked disdainfully at the handsome couple in front of him. The man exuded an air of superiority, clearly a rich second-generation individual, which triggered the officer's deep-seated resentment towards the wealthy. "Register first!"
The officer rudely tossed the registration form in front of Qing Cang and then shifted his gaze to Shen Qingyou. "According to those men, he was forcibly kissing you. Do you want to press charges against this gentleman?"
Press charges? With a snap, Qing Cang broke the pen he was holding in half, glaring fiercely at the officer who seemed oblivious to his own insignificance.
"What are you looking at? This is a police station, not a place for you to show off!"
A surge of anger was building up in Qing Cang's mind, and Shen Qingyou quickly interjected, "Comrade, it's all a misunderstanding; we are friends!"
"Friends? Are you dating?"
"Yes!"
"No!"
"Which is it?"
The officer impatiently questioned them both: "One says yes, one says no; what is it really?"
"No!"
"Yes!"
"What the hell is going on?"
The officer was furious; these two people kept switching between different names, was he being toyed with?
"Comrade, we are taking statements!"
At this rate, Shen Qingyou was genuinely worried that Qing Cang would lose his temper and blow the roof off the police station!
"Qing Cang, Shen Qingyou!" The officer muttered their names while starting to search for them in the Public Security System's census network.
"ID card!"
The officer took the ID card handed over by Shen Qingyou and began searching based on the ID number. "What about yours?"
Qing Cang sat silently in a chair with a cold expression, not moving an inch!
"You! Where's your ID card?"
The officer raised his voice involuntarily. In the silent hall, his echo could be clearly heard, but Qing Cang still ignored him. He couldn't understand why he was wasting time with this officer. Normally, even if their director called, he wouldn't necessarily give them the time of day!
Was all of this just for this woman in front of him? Sighing silently, Qing Cang finally pulled out his long-unused ID card from his pocket.
"Shen Qingyou, married!"
"Qing Cang, unmarried!"
What kind of society is this? Looking at how decent they both appeared, yet they were involved in an extramarital affair. The officer cast a disdainful glance at Shen Qingyou, as if he wanted to punish her severely.
"Notify your husband to come for bail!"
"Bail?"
Qing Cang suddenly stood up. Bail? He couldn't have heard that wrong; they were taking statements, so why had it turned into bail?
"According to the Public Security Regulations of China, you have violated Article... of China's Public Security Law. We have the right to detain you for fifteen days!"
Although Qing Cang did not know exactly which article of the Chinese Public Security Law this was, at this moment, he only knew that his anger had reached its peak and he could no longer hold it back!
He stepped forward, grabbed the Chief Officer's collar, and said fiercely, "Are you kidding me? We are law-abiding citizens. How have we violated the public security regulations?"
"Assaulting an officer! Assaulting an officer!"
The police officer shouted loudly. The man's gaze was terrifying, as if he wanted to swallow him whole. Instinctively, he pressed the alarm button in the police station. The shrill sound of the alarm shattered the quiet night, and soon, hurried footsteps echoed around. Dozens of officers rushed in from all directions of the police station, holding electric batons and looking sternly at Qing Cang.
"Damn!" Qing Cang cursed under his breath and then released the officer's collar. In no time, the dozen officers with electric batons surrounded him tightly, and silver handcuffs were unceremoniously locked onto Qing Cang, who had already been deemed a dangerous individual in their eyes.
Shen Qingyou's head buzzed; she did not expect that just coming to record a statement would escalate into such a scene. For the first time, she questioned the glorious image of public servants. In the dead of night, who could she turn to for help to resolve all this?
Shen Qingyou's mind raced at high speed when suddenly she thought of Li Haoran. She quickly took out her phone from her bag. When the call connected, Li Haoran was startled to see Shen Qingyou's number. The drowsiness vanished instantly as he listened to Shen Qingyou explain the situation on the other end of the line. An ominous premonition lingered in his mind...
Meanwhile, a police officer harboring vengeful thoughts somehow found Yuan Mufang's number and called it at the same time. Ah, tonight was destined to be another extraordinary night...
