Xiao Mei returned to her room and looked around. The room was filled with pink and rose red, and the bookshelf was filled with various best-selling children's books. But she was no longer the Xiao Mei who was excited about all of this.
"Xiao Mei feels bored here and wants to find something interesting to do," she said in the third person, standing in front of the mirror.
At that moment, it seemed like the doll in the corner of the room moved slightly.
Xiao Mei walked over, picked up the doll, and looked at its unevenly sewn face.
"Will this be interesting?" she asked.
The doll didn't respond, but Xiao Mei seemed to hear a faint sound coming from its seam.
It's late at night, and the moonlight outside is seeping into the life of this family.
"I talked to Mr. Zhang today, and he said he will further investigate that audio tape," Lin Xinhui suddenly broke the silence.
Chen Hanlin furrowed his brows: "That's good, wife. Just now, Xiao Mei seemed off."
"I also felt something was off. Let's closely observe Xiao Mei again. See if she's been influenced by something."
"What if it's really because of the influence of this apartment? What should we do?" Chen Hanlin asked.
"Find out the underlying cause, no matter what," Lin Xinhui said with a serious expression.
Just as the two of them were worrying, they suddenly heard whispers and children's laughter coming from Xiao Mei's room. However, the sound coming from Xiao Mei's room did not seem to be Xiao Mei's voice.
Chen Hanlin and Lin Xinhui looked at each other, as if they both realized that this was not an ordinary matter. Chen Hanlin slowly stood up and said, "Wife, I'll go take a look."
He walked to Xiao Mei's room door, took a deep breath, and then opened the door.
A faint light shone through the crack in the door, illuminating his face. As he walked in, he saw Xiao Mei sitting by the bed, holding the doll in her hands.
"Dad, are you looking for Xiao Mei?" Xiao Mei smiled.
"No, just came to see you, to see if you're okay."
"Oh, Xiao Mei is doing well." Xiao Mei still refers to herself in the third person.
Chen Hanlin felt a sudden chill run from his spine to the top of his head. He turned to look at Lin Xinhui, who had a dazed expression.
"Xiao Mei, who were you just talking to?" Chen Hanlin asked, his voice trembling.
"Xiao Mei is playing with her friends." Xiao Mei's eyes instantly lit up, but there seemed to be another kind of life hidden in her gaze.
"What friends?" Chen Hanlin felt extremely nervous.
"Xiao Mei I'm not sure, but they have always been here, they say we are all friends," Xiao Mei's tone was surprisingly calm, in stark contrast to her usual liveliness.
"Xiao Mei, are you really okay?" Chen Hanlin asked cautiously.
"Xiao Mei is very good, but she feels that her mom and dad should also get to know these friends," Xiao Mei said, pointing to the window.
Fog appeared on the window glass, and one after another, the shadows of unidentified objects gradually emerged, their shapes vague but enough to make people feel uneasy. The couple was shocked and horrified when they saw it.
"I think we need to figure out what's really going on," Lin Xinhui said as she took the mysterious tape and put it into a recorder.
"Do you think the answers are on the tape?" Chen Hanlin asked uncertainly.
"Uncertain, but we always have to give it a try." Lin Xinhui inserted the cassette tape and pressed the play button.
The recorder emitted a strange sound, not like a human voice, more like the roar of some kind of animal or machine.
Then, a man's voice suddenly appeared from the tape.
"They are not human, they come from the walls, from the ceiling, from..."
The recording suddenly cut off, and the lights in the room also suddenly dimmed.
"This sound... didn't appear on Miss Xie's side," Lin Xinhui's voice was filled with panic.
Chen Hanlin looked at the window and the shadows were still there. "This is all just too eerie!"
Suddenly, Xiao Mei spoke up: "My friends say that only by finding the Main head can we resolve all these strange occurrences."
"Main head? What do your friends mean, Xiao Mei?" Chen Hanlin asked, his voice filled with fear of the unknown.
"Main head is just Main head," Xiao Mei replied calmly, but her tone seemed far from that of a child. "Xiao Mei's friends say it's the key to unlocking all the mysteries."
Lin Xinhui's heart raced, suddenly feeling dizzy. "This is all too absurd, how did we end up in this predicament?"
Chen Hanlin paced to the other end of the room, gazing at the darkness outside the window, as if seeking some answers. "Perhaps we should get someone to investigate this apartment, see if there's something amiss."
"But that will take time, and we can't guarantee Xiao Mei's safety," Lin Xinhui replied anxiously, still holding the stopped tape recorder in her hand.
"So what should we do then?" Chen Hanlin's face bore a heavy expression.
"I think we need to find that so-called 'Main head' first," Lin Xinhui said, taking a deep breath and trying to calm down.
"Are you saying we should believe Xiao Mei's friends?" Chen Hanlin frowned, looking puzzled.
"I know this sounds crazy, but we need all possible clues now," Lin Xinhui looked at Xiao Mei. "Xiao Mei, did your friends tell you where this 'Main head' is?"
Xiao Mei smiled slightly, a smile that made Lin Xinhui uneasy. "The 'Main head' is in a closed place. Xiao Mei's friends said only brave people can find it."
"What does it mean to be brave?" Chen Hanlin asked.
"Xiao Mei doesn't know, Xiao Mei is just the messenger," Xiao Mei's voice became lower and lower, as if talking to an invisible figure.
Lin Xinhui felt a chill, as if there was something unseen wandering in the room. She tightened her grip on the recorder and couldn't help but say, "Anyway, we must give it a try."
The next morning, a family of three gathered around the dining table.
Chen Hanlin recalled Xiao Mei's unusual behavior and the mysterious sound from last night, and his heart raced like riding a roller coaster.
"Xiao Mei, who were you playing with last night?" Chen Hanlin asked in a deliberately calm tone.
"Xiao Mei was playing with friends, they are all very fun, dad doesn't need to worry," Xiao Mei once again referred to herself in the third person, but her expression was very natural.
Lin Xinhui and Chen Hanlin looked at each other again, their doubts and unease growing stronger in their hearts.
This family spent a day in a cloud of suspicion, and everyone felt as if there was an unusual heaviness lingering in the air.
And that eerie tape was like an unsolved mystery, shrouding their hearts.
