It was a morning, the sky presented a gentle azure, with the warmth of the rising sun. On the training ground of the Academy of Esoterics, Lin Mengmeng and Jiang Hanting were going through their daily training as usual. However, despite their bodies moving, their minds seemed to be elsewhere.
As the training came to an end, Lin Mengmeng inadvertently scanned the edge of the campus with her eyes, where a slight movement caught her attention. Several figures concealed in the shadow of the trees appeared particularly mysterious. Her heart couldn't help but speed up, a feeling of fear quietly creeping into her mind. She softly said to Jiang Hanting, "There are some people over there, they seem suspicious." Her voice was weak, almost blown away by the wind.
Jiang Hanting Turning his head to look at those figures, his eyes were sharp, as keen as a hawk's. His brow furrowed slightly, carrying a subtle hint of worry that was not easily detectable. He calmly analyzed, "Those people don't seem like students, nor do they seem like teachers. What are they doing there? Their attire and behavior seem out of place."
Lin Mengmeng Bit her lip, her eyes filled with hesitation and unease. "Let's go take a look," she suggested, but her tone revealed tension and fear. Her hands involuntarily clenched, fingertips turning slightly pale.
They quietly approached those people, hiding behind the dense leaves of a big tree to observe secretly. The low conversation of those people revealed mystery and conspiracy. Although they couldn't hear the content of their conversation clearly, both Lin Mengmeng and Jiang Hanting could feel that something was unusual. Lin Mengmeng's heart raced, feeling like every breath she took was playing a tense symphony.
Jiang Hanting's gaze became sharper, and he said solemnly, "It seems they are not here just to play. We need to be careful; this matter may be more complex than we imagine." His voice was deep, carrying an unquestionable authority.
Lin Mengmeng asked cautiously, "So what should we do?" Her voice trembled, fragile and sensitive like a mint leaf in the cold wind.
Jiang Hanting pondered for a moment, then decisively said, "We need to quietly investigate their background. But the most important thing right now is not to let them discover us. We need to keep a low profile while closely monitoring their movements." His eyes shimmered with strategy and determination.
Lin Mengmeng nodded, despite being filled with worry, she trusted Jiang Hanting. A hint of admiration and reliance shone in her eyes. She stood there quietly, suppressing her fear.
Suddenly, an unusual sound interrupted their conversation. A figure emerged from the bushes, appearing to be a security guard from the college. His gaze scanned the surroundings sharply, as if searching for something. Lin Mengmeng's heart raced, and she nervously looked to Jiang Hanting for guidance.
Jiang Hanting reacted quickly, pulling Lin Mengmeng into the nearby bushes. Their breathing became rapid and low, their eyes fixed tightly on the security guard, not daring to make a sound. Lin Mengmeng felt a strong sense of panic, her heart pounding violently, her hand unconsciously gripping Jiang Hanting's arm.
Jiang Hanting whispered to her, "Don't be afraid, I'm here." His voice was calm and firm, seemingly possessing a kind of magic that slightly eased Lin Mengmeng's heart. His eyes revealed vigilance, his ears listening closely to the surrounding sounds, ready to respond to any possible situation at any moment.
The security guards seemed to have not noticed their presence, only patrolling the area before returning to their original positions. Lin Mengmeng and Jiang Hanting waited for a while, made sure there was no danger, and then quietly left their hiding place.
They cautiously left the tree and returned to the main building of the college. Lin Mengmeng felt somewhat heavy-hearted, sensing the seriousness of the situation but also feeling afraid. Jiang Hanting noticed her unease and comforted her softly, "Don't worry, we will be careful. And we have other classmates who can help us."
Lin Mengmeng nodded, but still felt uneasy. She knew that this investigation might involve danger, but she also understood that as an Esoteric practitioner, she couldn't avoid these difficulties.
Over the next few days, Lin Mengmeng and Jiang Hanting began to secretly observe those mysterious individuals. They found that these people seemed to have connections with some of the teachers at the academy, and their actions were extremely secretive.
One evening, while Lin Mengmeng and Jiang Hanting were researching related information in the library, Jiang Hanting suddenly frowned and said, "These people seem to be involved in some illegal transactions that have recently occurred at the college. We need to be more careful."
Lin Mengmeng felt increasingly pressured, and her face appeared somewhat pale. Seeing her like this, Jiang Hanting gently said to her, " Mengmeng, if you're feeling scared, you don't have to participate in this operation. I will handle it myself."
Lin Mengmeng shook her head. "No, Senior Jiang, I want to go with you. This matter concerns me too, I can't just avoid it," she said firmly, her eyes shining with courage.
Jiang Hanting nodded, a flash of admiration in his eyes. "Alright, let's prepare together."
In the days that followed, they began to closely monitor the movements of those mysterious individuals. They discovered that these people would meet every night in an abandoned building near the academy. So, they decided to go there at night to investigate.
As night fell, Lin Mengmeng and Jiang Hanting quietly arrived at the abandoned building. Moonlight filtered through the broken windows, casting shadows on the dusty floor. They hid in the darkness, observing the comings and goings of the people.
Suddenly, a rough voice came: "Make sure no one is following us. This batch of goods is very important." Lin Mengmeng and Jiang Hanting looked at each other, realizing that these people were involved in a major illegal transaction.
They carefully tracked these people, trying to find more clues. However, at that moment, a mysterious figure suddenly turned around, sharp eyes staring directly at the place where they were hiding.
"Somebody's here!" The person shouted, and Lin Mengmeng and Jiang Hanting realized that their whereabouts had been discovered, immediately turning to escape.
They darted through the darkness, evading their pursuers. Jiang Hanting glanced back at Lin Mengmeng, who was following closely behind, his eyes betraying a subtle concern. "Mengmeng, run!"
At a sudden turn, Jiang Hanting forcefully pushed open a door and quickly entered an abandoned classroom with Lin Mengmeng. Both of them were panting heavily, hiding behind a row of old desks and chairs. The footsteps outside were getting closer, and their heartbeats accelerated accordingly.
Jiang Hanting whispered to Lin Mengmeng, "Let's wait for them to move further away, then we'll find a chance to escape."
Lin Mengmeng nodded, her palms sweaty and her heart filled with tension and unease. Just then, she suddenly felt a sense of impending doom. She whispered to Jiang Hanting, "I feel like we might not only have been discovered, but also might have fallen into some kind of trap."
Jiang Hanting's gaze turned sharp as he tightly gripped the Esoteric device in his hand, ready to respond to any potential danger. He calmly analyzed, "Our current position is very unfavorable. We need to find a safer place in order to devise an escape plan."
Suddenly, a loud shout came from outside: "Where do you still want to hide? Come out and surrender quickly, otherwise you will bear the consequences!"
Jiang Hanting whispered to Lin Mengmeng: "Don't panic, we need to think calmly. They don't know exactly where we are, we still have a chance."
Lin Mengmeng bit her lip and tried to calm down. She responded, "Can we use Esoteric to deal with them?"
Jiang Hanting shook his head. "No, using our Esoteric in this confined space might attract attention and put us in an even more dangerous situation. We need a more covert plan."
The two of them listened nervously to the sounds outside, trying to find the best time to escape. Suddenly, the outside noise stopped, followed by the sound of footsteps slowly fading away. Jiang Hanting signaled to Lin Mengmeng to stay quiet. They waited for a while to make sure those people had really left before carefully coming out of their hiding place.
Leaving the classroom, the two of them quickly and cautiously made their way through the corridor, trying to avoid possible surveillance and traps. Jiang Hanting led Lin Mengmeng, using his familiarity with the terrain and the environment of the academy to find a hidden path.
They finally returned safely to the dormitory area. As soon as they arrived, Lin Mengmeng's tense emotions finally relaxed, and she sat on the bed, feeling a bit exhausted, taking a deep breath.
Jiang Hanting looked at her with a tone of casual concern, "Are you okay? Tonight was too dangerous, I shouldn't have let you come along."
Lin Mengmeng shook her head and said, "No, Senior Jiang. I don't regret it. As an Esoteric practitioner, we will always encounter various difficulties. I can't always hide under your protection."
Jiang Hanting fell silent for a moment, then said, "You are very brave. But things in the future may become more complicated and dangerous, we need to be more cautious."
Lin Mengmeng nodded, her eyes showing determination: "I will work hard to keep up with Senior Jiang."
They talked for a while about the upcoming plans and strategies, then went back to their rooms to rest.
