"Pearl!" She was having a great time when she heard a soft, childish voice.
This voice was familiar to her; it belonged to Song Pearl.
"I'm coming!" Pearl replied, quickly lifting her head and flicking her tail out of the water. On the shore, Song Pearl was smiling at her. She climbed up and stood facing her, their gazes meeting at the same level.
"How could I become like you?" Pearl, still glistening with droplets of water, eagerly asked the question that had puzzled her for days. Although she was an older fish, her world was limited to the size of the pond, and she couldn't hide her curiosity.
Song Pearl's expression was calm, her eyes shining like stars. Pearl saw her own reflection in those clear pupils; it wasn't the shadow of a silver-gray Pearl Fish but that of a girl.
She had just been a fish! Swimming in the water! Why?
"You haven't become like me; this is you," Song Pearl said slowly. "I have known you for a very long time and have been looking for an opportunity to help you become human. Now I have finally succeeded!"
"This isn't an accident! Why?" Treasure asked in confusion. "You never asked if I wanted to!"
