"Well, 'Wan' is my real name, and 'Zhang Yunye' is my stage name." Zhang Wan said without a hint of embarrassment. "You can call me Zhang Yunye if you want..." 0

"I think I'll stick with Zhang Wan; it just feels right for you..." 0

Song Pearl bit her lip, secretly clenched her fist as she made a decision. The situation was urgent, so she would take a chance on this seemingly unreliable guy in front of her. 0

"Then... let's go. Where's your car?" Since he was unreliable, she had no choice but to ask in an equally unreliable manner. 0

"Car Rental Company..." Zhang Yunye took the backpack from Song Pearl's back, slung it over his shoulder, and walked ahead toward the car rental company's entrance. 0

That answer was somewhat reliable. Song Pearl lowered her gaze and followed along, walking side by side with Zhang Yunye. She intended to walk shoulder to shoulder with him, but her head only reached his shoulder. 0

They boarded the bus, transferring from Route 2 to Route 8, and then from Route 8 to Route 11. Throughout the journey, Song Pearl was too distracted to notice the neon lights outside or the grand buildings around them; she simply followed Zhang Yunye until they arrived at the entrance of a stylishly decorated Car Rental Company. 0

Although she studied in this city, Song Pearl only knew a few streets near her school. She had never been to the bustling city center and had seen only a handful of car models. 0

Thus, her understanding of cars was limited to those that were luxurious and impressive. 0

As the staff at the rental company approached to greet them, a luxury SUV drove out and stopped right in front of them. A sharply dressed young man stepped out of the vehicle. Song Pearl glanced at his name tag, which read: Yun Chi Car Rental Company Manager Chi Zheng. 0

"Yun Ye, here's the car you requested." Chi Zheng glanced at Song Pearl beside Zhang Yunye but showed no signs of unusual interest or curiosity as he handed the car keys to Zhang Yunye. 0

"Thanks for your help." Zhang Yunye accepted the keys without hesitation, placed the backpack in the back seat, opened the passenger door for Song Pearl, and only after she got in did he enter the car. He waved goodbye to Chi Zheng standing by the car and started driving onto the main road. 0

"Are you familiar with people at this company? Do you not need to go through any rental procedures?" Song Pearl asked curiously, feeling it was necessary to inquire about this. 0

"I generally know the place, but if I told you that this Car Rental Company is mine, you definitely wouldn't believe it." Zhang Yunye chewed gum, his eyes fixed calmly on the road ahead. 0

I knew this kid wasn't telling the truth! He could lie without batting an eye. Song Pearl stuffed her hands into the pockets of her down jacket and looked at the endless road ahead. 0

It had been dark for a long time. In the brightly lit downtown area, it felt like nothing was wrong, but once they left the city, even with the car's heater on, there was still a sense of cold solitude. 0

"I need to check on my home first. When can we get to my place?" Song Pearl broke the silence and asked again. 0

"Big sister, shouldn't you tell me where your home is first and then ask if I know which way to go?" Although this wasn't very pleasant to hear, it was the truth. 0

His words were straightforward and casual, as if he were talking to a family member. Zhang Yunye spoke with a hint of humor, creating an inexplicable sense of warmth and familiarity. 0

"You think I've never seen a navigation device? You're underestimating me!" Song Pearl wrinkled her nose and huffed. "After you take me home, I'll remember your kindness for a lifetime." 0

"Uh-huh, no need for that. I don't seek repayment; this is voluntary." Upon hearing Song Pearl's serious tone, Zhang Yunye seemed a bit flustered and quickly declined. "I think it will take until around three in the morning at the earliest. Are you in such a hurry to get home?" 0

Song Pearl nodded. "I have a very uneasy feeling. If I could, I would want to be there right now." 0

"Even Superman would take some time to fly from Provincial Capital to your home; besides, you're not Superman," Zhang Yunye laughed. "Why don't you close your eyes and rest? By the time you wake up, you'll be at your doorstep." 0

"No thanks; I like looking at the scenery along the road." Song Pearl shrugged her shoulders and tightened her clothes. 0

Zhang Yunye raised an eyebrow. "Big sister, your eyesight is really good; the scenery along the road isn't bad, right?" 0

"It's okay," Song Pearl replied absentmindedly. The scenery was nice; occasionally passing car lights flickered like fireflies by a pond in the past. 0

Zhang Yunye stopped teasing her and turned on the car's audio system, soothing music flowing out. Song Pearl's tense nerves gradually relaxed, and before she knew it, she had fallen asleep. 0

It wasn't until she heard Zhang Yunye exclaim, "Wow, this spectacular lineup, are they dealing with a woman or fighting against the rich?" that Song Pearl opened her eyes and sat up straight. 0

The bright headlights illuminated the road ahead, revealing bulldozers and excavators in the fields, along with a crowd. In front of the bulldozer stood a woman holding an iron fork, crying uncontrollably but showing no signs of backing down—Liu Cuiying! 0

It was so cold that tears would freeze on her face! Her legs were weak; she was afraid of the cold. 0

To demolish her family's house, the village had invested so much! Didn't they feel cold? Bullying the elderly, weak, women, and children! 0

"I want to get out of the car!" Before she finished speaking, Song Pearl had already opened the car door and jumped out. 0

"Hey, I haven't even stopped yet!" Zhang Yunye's shout from behind was ineffective. Fortunately, the car had slowed down; after jumping out, Song Pearl stumbled slightly but quickly ran forward. 0

"Mom!" 0

The scattered crowd hadn't reacted yet when Song Pearl rushed to Liu Cuiying's side and hugged her arm. Liu Cuiying, wearing a heavy cotton coat, trembled slightly. 0

"It's okay; these people are still afraid of causing a death," Liu Cuiying glanced at Song Pearl, her voice steady and calm, not as flustered as it appeared. 0

"Yeah..." Song Pearl nodded and looked at several village officials wearing yellow coats and fur hats standing in front of the bulldozer. She didn't recognize all of them, but she remembered what village officials looked like since childhood. 0

"What are you all doing..." Just as Song Pearl was about to question them, her sensitive ears picked up the rumbling sound of machinery coming from the direction of Fish Pond. 0

"No, they want to fill the Fish Pond!" 0

"They actually split into two groups, these people! Of course, they can do this!" 0

Song Pearl released Liu Cuiying's arm and exclaimed, "I'm going to check on the Fish Pond," before running over. At twenty years old, she had never run this fast. 0

The earth piled up around the Fish Pond formed mountains, with only a gap left at the entrance of the Song Family Yard where no soil had been dumped. 0

In the distance, two bulldozers had already circled around the fields beside the Fish Pond, leaving behind a crisscross of tire tracks. This was not the first time; it would take a while to transport all this soil. 0

No one knew how deep the Fish Pond was better than Song Pearl. She sneered inwardly; with this setup, they wouldn't have enough soil to fill the Fish Pond. 0

However, who could guarantee that after several truckloads of soil were dumped in, the fish that had lain dormant at the bottom for over a decade wouldn't be buried? 0

"Stop! You can't push the soil down!" Song Pearl shouted sharply. The night breeze carried an unknown bird's call mixed with her voice, making it sound particularly eerie. 0

It seemed that Song Pearl's shout had some effect; both bulldozers surprisingly stopped in their tracks, only humming without moving forward. 0

"You can't overpower them, nor can you outsmart them. Let me deal with these people," Zhang Yunye said, having appeared beside Song Pearl at some point. His voice was low and calm, completely devoid of any hoarseness or youthfulness, unlike when she had encountered him yesterday. 0

As he turned around, the villagers who had formed a circle instinctively parted to let him through. To the villagers still trapped in outdated thinking, a figure in black appearing in the middle of the night was truly terrifying. 0

To prevent anyone from stealing fish, a lantern had hung at the entrance of the Song Family for many years, illuminating a large area around it. Just now, this man in a black trench coat and hood casually raised his hand, and those two bulldozers became motionless; the villagers saw it clearly. 0

"What's there to be afraid of? This person came with Pearl, and that Pearl is very bold. She even fell into the Fish Pond once!" 0

"Have you seen someone who looks like this? I saw someone like that on TV, the one who punishes evil and promotes good..." 0

"Shh, don't talk nonsense. That punisher of evil... the Fish Pond is a haunted place, it's not to be trifled with!" 0

"Yeah, it hasn't caused trouble in recent years because Song Shiting has been lucky and can keep it under control..." 0

"How can it not cause trouble? If we fill it up, those water ghosts won't be able to stir things up!" 0

"Don't talk nonsense; it's not even dawn yet, and the Heart Demon is around!" 0

"What are you afraid of? The rooster has crowed." 0

The village officials were not ignorant; they stood firm on one side, watching the tall and thin youth, Mian Ruo Nuan Yu, walking towards them. 0
