After the battle with the team led by Dompey and Stalker came to an end, this marked the first victory for The Celestial Warriors Alliance in the name of the alliance. The entire alliance and logistics team began a brief period of rest. While it was indeed a victory, as they had eliminated Ban Sa's trusted aide, Dompey, future challenges would be much simpler; on the other hand, they had not accomplished their original goal of destroying the Quantum String Engine Positioning Needle. As General Jiang put it, "We won in dignity but lost in mission."
"We had no prior coordination practice, and aside from Nars, we didn't even have a strategy to deal with Dompey, yet we still managed to kill him. Regardless, I believe we performed exceptionally well in our mission, and everyone deserves to celebrate," An Xiaotian said, standing in the center of the circle formed by his comrades, his hand over his heart as he looked around.
"Even though we didn't achieve our ultimate goal, we succeeded in a significant way. Why do I say significant? Because we demonstrated our strength! Their leader cannot be unaware that Dompey was killed by us. Our unity will make them realize that humanity is not something they can easily trample upon. We are The Celestial Warriors; what does it mean to be Celestial? It means guarding our borders and defending our territory. Against forces from outer space, Earth is our land, and we will not yield an inch! This will be our alliance's mission—defending peace until the very last moment!"
"Good!"
A round of enthusiastic applause erupted around them as everyone cheered for An Xiaotian's inspiring speech.
An Xiaotian smiled shyly at everyone; he hadn't expected such high spirits. Indeed, after this battle, they had not only established basic trust and understanding among each other but also gained a lot of confidence.
"Our mission is far from over," An Xiaotian said, his smile fading as he spoke seriously. "Earth's fate remains uncertain. We must cherish this brief peace and prepare for future wars; that is our duty."
"Alright then, mission accomplished! Everyone should go back and rest well," Lu Sha said as she observed the sturdy soldier closely. She noticed An Xiaotian looking at her with a puzzled expression and nearly burst out laughing. Suddenly, she found An Xiaotian both handsome and amusing, and his charisma was particularly captivating. After hesitating for a moment and squeezing her palms together, she watched as everyone began to disperse while gazing at An Xiaotian's retreating figure. Just as she was about to approach him—
"Hey! Xiaotian, you were so cool just now! You're honestly the fastest-growing person I've ever seen; in just two and a half years' time, you've gone from a rookie to our true leader!"
Qin Weishan had already stepped forward ahead of her, throwing an arm around An Xiaotian's shoulder and praising him enthusiastically.
"Oh no, that's not true; in terms of seniority, you're all older than me," An Xiaotian replied modestly.
"Pfft! That Lu Sha is still two or three years younger than you."
The desire to strike up a conversation vanished for Lu Sha at that moment. Remembering how she had slapped Qin Weishan earlier made her want to avoid looking at him altogether—she felt she hadn’t done anything wrong.
"Maybe..."
Lu Sha stood there dazedly as she watched the soldier—the leader of their alliance—being drawn away by someone she disliked, feeling an indescribable sense of loss.
"What’s wrong, Sasa?"
Lu Sha turned around to see Sister Jiao An approaching her. Jiao An gently patted her beautiful red hair and asked, "Why are you just standing here?"
Jiao An glanced over in the direction where Qin Weishan had taken An Xiaotian; she knew well what was going on between Lu Sha and Qin Weishan. Having grown up herself as a young girl, she understood those feelings all too well.
"Sister, who do you think is in the wrong..." Lu Sha asked weakly.
Jiao An fell silent; it was an awkward topic for her—Qin Weishan was a comrade she had fought alongside for many years and had even saved her during battle. If she spoke ill of him in front of Lu Sha, it would weigh heavily on her conscience. On the other hand, Lu Sha was someone she had nurtured herself; their bond was like that of mother and daughter. Jiao An was also a sensitive girl; if she didn’t speak against Qin Weishan, Lu Sha might feel like she wasn’t on her side. However, Jiao An didn’t want to get involved in this conflict at all. She wanted to soothe both sides and hoped they could reconcile.
But how could she comfort them—especially Lu Sha? Both of them had fiery tempers. Jiao An felt somewhat troubled.
"Alright then, it's okay," Jiao An said as she looked at Lu Sha with her head down. "No matter who's right or wrong, your mission has been successfully completed, right? Some things don’t need you to dwell on too much; learning to let go is always better than letting yourself suffer internally."
Lu Sha pouted, "Fine, whatever."
In the command room, General Jiang was bent over reviewing some documents. The room was quiet, so quiet that even the sound of his pen scratching on paper seemed deafening. In this environment, the doorbell suddenly rang, causing General Jiang to straighten up. He reluctantly put down his pen and looked at the surveillance monitor, surprised to see Dr. Xu Yicheng standing outside.
"Welcome, Dr. Xu," General Jiang said as he pressed the intercom.
The automatic door unlocked, and Xu Yicheng walked in. Upon seeing the pile of documents on General Jiang's desk, he hesitated. "Uh, should I come back later?"
"Since you're here, just say it," General Jiang said with a kind smile. "What's the matter, Doctor? Do you have a request?"
Xu Yicheng didn't know how to start, but General Jiang continued to look at him kindly without making any indication.
"Alright, I want to go out for a bit," Xu Yicheng said as if he had just released a heavy burden. "I have a friend who came to City M, and I want to meet him."
Xu Yicheng clearly felt guilty; his eyes darted away from the general and did not meet his gaze. After a long wait, there was still silence.
"General? Um..." Xu Yicheng thought he had spoken too softly and was about to repeat himself when General Jiang waved his hand.
"I nodded just now; go ahead."
Xu Yicheng was overjoyed. "Thank you, General."
"But," General Jiang raised his head and said, "it's best if you don't stay out overnight."
"Absolutely!"
Xu Yicheng pretended to be calm as he walked out of the command room. Once the door closed behind him, he whistled toward the corner. Two faces immediately popped out, and Xu Yicheng quickly walked over, leaving the camera's view.
"How did it go? Did you succeed?" Lu Sha asked.
Xu Yicheng nodded.
"Yay!" Lu Sha and Liu Xuan cheered as they high-fived each other. "I knew it! With Dr. Xu's reputation, General Jiang wouldn't dare refuse!"
Xu Yicheng smiled and shook his head. Watching these two young people celebrate felt like watching his own children; a wave of tenderness washed over him. For the first time, he felt like a father: "You two better not make me take the blame next time. Just this once, understood?"
"Yes!" both replied with wide grins.
"Then let's set off immediately! No time to waste!"
"Let's go!"
The loud response could even be heard by General Jiang. He smiled slightly; after all, he knew it was these young people's scheme. However, he believed that the Celestial Warriors deserved to celebrate a little. He understood that facing such terrifying enemies required confidence, and giving them a chance to relax might not be a bad thing.
Liu Xuan pressed their base's exclusive communicator: "Xiaotian, are you training?"
"What do you think?" An Xiaotian was startled by the sudden call, skillfully catching Qin Weishan's flying fist before quickly connecting the channel.
"We went out to have some fun!" Liu Xuan said as he opened the car door and got in—General Jiang had even arranged for his driver to pick them up.
"Wait, are you showing off? Did the general really agree?"
"We have things to do!"
"Hmm?"
"Uh, well, you can understand it that way. We're leaving now, so train well!"
"You son of a..." An Xiaotian angrily cut off the communicator.
The car's rock music was turned up to seventy percent, the rhythm of the sound waves pounding against the hearts of the two young people. Liu Xuan was a typical introvert, while Lu Sha was quite the opposite; on the way, she could only be heard telling Liu Xuan how she gained her superpowers and how she got to where she was today.
Liu Xuan could only smile shyly, but he genuinely admired this girl who was younger than him. She had experienced many things he couldn't even imagine, yet she could share her story with him as if it were just a tale. Perhaps it was out of trust, or maybe she was really trying to let go. Liu Xuan politely responded to Lu Sha and continued to gaze at the sunset outside.
In the front seat, Dr. Xu Yicheng quietly placed his hands on his lap, casually chatting with the driver.
The entire car seemed divided into two worlds as the wheels sped along, bringing them to a Chinese restaurant next to downtown City M—Liu Xuan had reserved a private room here.
"How about one bowl of abalone and papaya steamed rice for each person?" Liu Xuan asked as he looked at the menu on his phone after scanning the code.
Xu Yicheng glanced at the driver, who awkwardly shook his head: "I prefer something lighter."
"No worries! Liu Xuan is treating!" Lu Sha exclaimed as she patted Liu Xuan on the shoulder. After that, she playfully punched him lightly, "How much money do you even have? It's surprising you'd think of coming here for a meal. Save some!"
It seemed there was a change in the bill; everyone instinctively looked down and saw an extra item in the cart—
"King Crab!" Liu Xuan exclaimed in surprise at Dr. Xu Yicheng, who sat across from him with a faint smile and no words.
"Young man, don't be too eager; just keep your allowance from the base for yourself. Leave spending money to me," Xu Yicheng teased. Liu Xuan deliberately pulled a long face: "Alright then, I'll just focus on eating."
"Is King Crab expensive?" Lu Sha asked curiously about gourmet food as she spoke to a server who came over to pour tea. The server smiled without saying a word and elegantly filled Lu Sha's cup with tea, creating a whirlpool in front of her as the brownish-yellow liquid swirled with the tea leaves.
Lu Sha brushed her air bangs aside, resting her hands on the table as she eagerly watched the food platform outside for their meal.
