Yun Che and Wu Ling walked out of the main hall and strolled along the wide palace walkway, their minds immersed in the tangle of their investigation.
Just as they were deeply engrossed in thought, the conversation of the palace maids and eunuchs around them caught their attention.
"Did you hear? Empress Sun is actually the mother of Second Prince Jing Yan, and she's already in her thirties," the eunuch said.
"Really? She doesn't look anything like someone in her thirties," a newly arrived palace maid exclaimed.
The eunuch continued, "If she didn't look so young, have you ever heard of a concubine in her thirties being favored again and bestowed the title of noble consort?"
"Poor Second Prince Jing Yan," the eunuch continued, "he was originally handsome and outstanding, but he encountered misfortune on the battlefield."
Yun Che and Wu Ling looked at each other with puzzled expressions on their faces, quietly eavesdropping on the conversation between the eunuch and the palace maid in the shadows of the corridor.
The palace maid couldn't help but ask curiously, furrowing her brows, "Since I entered the palace, I have never seen Second Prince Jing Yan. What has happened to him?"
A seemingly experienced eunuch sighed and replied with a solemn expression, "Second Prince was burned by flames on the battlefield, his whole body is ruined. Not only his face, limbs, and entire body are affected, he can only lie in bed now, with his wounds being bandaged and changed daily by others. He only has a breath left now."
Upon hearing this, a palace maid showed a surprised expression on her face and softly said, "Having the fate of a prince, but not the fortune to enjoy it, truly pitiful."
The eunuch continued, "But what's even stranger is that since Second Prince had his accident, Empress Sun who was originally heartbroken, has started looking younger and younger. Despite being over thirty and having given birth, she now looks as young as when she first entered the palace."
The palace maid puzzled, touching her chin, "Is it true or false? Could Empress Sun have found some miraculous elixir?"
The eunuch shook his head, his voice carrying a hint of mystery: "Who knows? But it's indeed very strange. Perhaps she really used some kind of secret formula."
Yun Che and Wu Ling exchanged a surprised look. Although this information seemed unrelated to their investigation, Empress Sun's strange rejuvenation had caught their attention.
" Wu Ling, this situation is worth our attention. Perhaps there are secrets hidden behind it that we don't know," Yun Che said in a low voice.
Wu Ling nodded, with a thoughtful look on his face: "Indeed, such strange changes may be related to the anomalies in the palace."
The two decided to temporarily set aside the investigation of the bronze cauldron and instead search for the secret of Empress Sun's rejuvenation, as well as visit Second Prince Jing Yan.
They began quietly investigating Empress Sun's daily life, searching for possible clues. By chance, they discovered that Empress Sun seemed to frequently visit a secluded garden within the palace.
The garden was very hidden and difficult for ordinary people to find.
Yun Che and Wu Ling sneaked into the garden under the cover of night and discovered that it was filled with various rare flowers and plants, with a small lake in the middle.
By the lake, they found a stone table with various bottles and jars on it, resembling equipment for alchemy or potion-making.
"It seems that Empress Sun may be using some kind of special elixir," Wu Ling said.
Yun Che frowned, "These elixirs may be related to her rejuvenation, perhaps this is her secret."
They carefully brought back these potions and began to study their ingredients. After some analysis, they found that these potions contained some rare herbs, all of which had powerful life force.
"These herbs may be the key to Empress Sun's youthful appearance," analyzed Yun Che.
"What does this have to do with the vision in the palace?" Wu Ling asked in confusion.
Yun Che pondered for a moment and replied, "Perhaps the vitality of these herbs is somehow connected to the bronze cauldron in the palace. We need further research."
So, Yun Che and Wu Ling began to focus on these mysterious herbs, trying to find their connection to the anomalies in the palace.
As time passed, they gradually discovered that the power of these herbs seemed to be related to ancient spells, and all of this might be the key to unraveling the mystery of the palace.
After failing to investigate the mysterious herb, Yun Che and Wu Ling decided to visit Second Prince Jing Yan to hopefully find more clues.
They arrived at the palace of Jin Yang, which appeared particularly gloomy and quiet compared to other parts of the palace. The guards outside the door saw them and nodded solemnly, making way for them.
Yun Che and Wu Ling entered the palace quietly. As soon as they stepped inside, they felt a strong medicinal fragrance mixed with a faint smell of decay, creating a sense of oppression and unease. The room was dim, with only the flickering candlelight by the bed casting a faint glow.
Lying on the bed is Jin Yang, whose face is severely disfigured by burns, almost unrecognizable. His skin is charred by flames, covered in scars, and looks extremely terrifying. Thick gauze covers his limbs and body, stained with pus and blood.
Jin Yang breathes weakly, barely showing signs of life. If not for the slight rise and fall of his chest from time to time, one would almost mistake him for a corpse. The candlelight in the room flickers, casting his distorted shadow, adding a touch of gloom and misery to the atmosphere.
Yun Che and Wu Ling stood by the bed, filled with sympathy and shock. Wu Ling softly said, "This handsome prince has suffered such pain and torment."
Yun Che gazed at the Jin Yang with a pensive expression, "Such injuries, according to common sense, should be unsurvivable. Yet he still clings to life. There must be a hidden secret behind this."
They turned and left the palace of the Jin Yang, filled with doubts. Walking along the long corridor of the palace, the two of them fell into contemplation.
"These visions, the tragic state of the Second Prince, and the rejuvenation of Empress Sun, seem to conceal some mysteries," Yun Che said in a low voice.
Wu Ling nodded, his face showing a serious expression: "Yun Che, we must investigate more deeply. Perhaps, the secrets within the palace are far more complex than we imagined."
They decided to leave first, temporarily avoiding the gaze of the crowd in order to conduct their investigation more effectively.
