Jiang Youming was a bit curious and led the two into a makeshift house beside the construction site to sit down. "Brother, you, let me hear it!"
"Nothing much, it's just that the youngest is worried about Yi Zhou, so he asked me to help manage his wages and prevent him from spending it recklessly," Jiang Maode didn't directly mention borrowing money or IOUs, subtly glossing over the matter.
"I thought I should discuss this with you. Even brothers should keep accounts clear. Yi Zhou is already eighteen; he understands how things work, and we all agree that it's better for everyone," the old man said, extending his arms to pat Jiang Youming and Jiang Yizhou on the shoulders, his tone quite high, each word clear.
"Yeah, my parents told me to listen to Uncle," Jiang Yizhou obediently replied with a vague statement, which wasn't exactly a lie.
Jiang Youming pondered for a moment with his head down before looking up and laughing heartily. "How about this? Let's just write a simple agreement to document this matter. We can sign or fingerprint it, and I'll keep it as a record. What do you think, brother?"
If this were his father handling the matter, there wouldn't be a need for a written agreement, but their relationship was still somewhat distant. For a year's wages from working, it would be at least one or two thousand; that could be enough to buy a life.
He wasn't sure how good their relationship really was; if any conflict arose, it would fall back on him.
The old man had already prepared for this and waved his hand. "Youming, just write it down. Once you're done, let me put my fingerprint on it!"
Jiang Yizhou also agreed; as long as the responsibilities were clarified beforehand, conflicts could at least be reduced by half. While waiting for the foreman to write diligently, Jiang Yizhou boredly examined the makeshift house. It was a typical removable structure; inside there were only tables and chairs along with a filing cabinet—not really a place where people lived.
"It's done," Jiang Youming said as he stopped writing and read aloud from the paper word by word. The gist was that Jiang Yizhou's wages for the year would be collected by Jiang Maode on his behalf, and he had already signed in front of the notary.
Jiang Maode skillfully picked up a red stamp from one corner of the wooden table, pressed his thumb on it, then stamped it on the paper before handing it to Jiang Yizhou for him to sign as well.
"Then I won't disturb you any longer. If all goes well for us two grandfathers, we should be able to start work tomorrow!"
After saying goodbye to Jiang Youming, the two headed to the bank entrance.
"Wait here; I'll go in and withdraw some money!" The old man left Jiang Yizhou alone and entered the bank lobby to get cash.
Sitting on the steps, Jiang Yizhou looked back at the large sign at the bank entrance and felt a surge of emotion inside. Had he finally reached this point? It truly was difficult for heroes when even a penny could thwart them; someone like him felt even more helpless and ultimately had to rely on such means to obtain some money!
Ah~~
Am I really the most useless Reborn Person? Although I have become someone else and gained twenty extra years, as a highly educated talent in the new century, reaching this level is quite disappointing.
Well, it's time to go buy a Stamp. I remember that the largest Postal Market is often at Yue Tan Park; I should check it out!
Jiang Yizhou, no matter what, I have finally taken a solid first step in my life. If I can't even seize this guaranteed opportunity, then I guess I'll just have to stay on the construction site for a year, save some capital, and then try to find a job as a programmer to continue in my old profession.
Without any universal skills, Jiang Yizhou feels quite defeated. Life is still long; I'll take it step by step! I hope that by this time next year, I can turn this borrowed three thousand into tens of thousands or even over a hundred thousand.
Creak~~
An old man casually pushed open the glass door of the bank, his hands tightly shoved into his pockets. However, he seemed overly nervous; his attire was rather shabby and didn't attract attention.
Jiang Maode didn't let go of his hand but bumped into Jiang Yizhou's shoulder, who was squatting on the steps outside the bank. "Get up and pass your hand over."
Jiang Yizhou stood up abruptly, steadying himself. He saw the old man glancing around and, after noticing there weren't many people and it seemed safe, pulled out a stack of hundred-yuan bills folded in half from his pocket.
After quickly receiving the money, Jiang Yizhou could still feel the sweat and warmth from the old man's hands on the cash. This was indeed nerve-wracking! At least in recent years, people have gotten used to online payments and rarely spent more than a hundred in cash. Even buying a bottle of mineral water for one yuan was done through mobile payment.
The public security in the capital should be decent, right? Now that Jiang Yizhou had received so much money, he gradually became as nervous as the old man, scanning his surroundings as if everyone looked like they wanted to rob him!
This three thousand is not like the three thousand of later years; it's what he could earn after working for a year—if he could even earn that much. If he lost it, there were only two paths to choose from.
Either work steadily with Uncle on the construction site—moving bricks, building walls, painting—or disappear without a trace into the world, perhaps relying on his vision and foresight to carve out his own path.
Alright, the latter is pure nonsense. If I had that ability, I wouldn't have been stuck in my previous life without progress, eating from the programmer's bowl of youth. Now approaching thirty, I'm still just a programmer; although experienced, this industry values experience above all else.
However, I should be able to make it big! Throughout history, many talents have been blocked at this first bucket of gold. I've already grasped it; Jiang Yizhou, don't hesitate any longer! If I mess this up with such a good opportunity, then I might as well consider ending it all.
"Nephhew, you need to think this through. Three thousand is not a small amount for me. If something goes wrong in the middle, it might not just be a couple of months of work lost; it could mean losing an entire year’s worth of effort. Be very careful!"
The elder repeatedly emphasized the seriousness of the situation. If he were to be cheated, it was entirely possible that he would end up with nothing. Upon seeing Jiang Yizhou, he recognized the gravity of the matter and began to feel anxious. After going over everything two or three times, he finally felt somewhat reassured and returned home.
"Go to Yue Tan Park, Yue Tan, found it!" Yue Tan Park was relatively easy to find. Jiang Yizhou successfully boarded a bus heading to Yue Tan.
"This is Yue Tan Post Market? Why does it feel so unreliable?" Jiang Yizhou entered the park and quickly located the area where the Postal Market was situated.
It felt even less organized than a temple fair back home. Of course, the revenue must far exceed that of a temple fair.
Just as Jiang Yizhou was about to walk in, he was stopped by someone standing at the entrance. "New here?"
Jiang Yizhou was momentarily taken aback. What did they want?
The person impatiently urged him, "Buy a ticket! To enter the Postal Market, you need an admission ticket—one yuan each!"
Jiang Yizhou looked around but noticed that there didn’t seem to be anyone else around to confirm the legitimacy of this requirement. He could only buy a ticket with some hesitation. Since they were boldly selling tickets without anyone overseeing them, it should be legitimate, right? Probably?
