Lin Yi returned to the resting area of the three people in the Training Class, which was actually just a few chairs and a tea table in the office.
He pretended to be idle, sipping from the teapot on the table that had been filled with water multiple times, his gaze drifting towards the office desk.
The workplace was too practical and had many issues; from the office window, one could directly see the podium, and at the very least, one could hear whether there was any laziness during the lectures.
Moreover, there was no privacy at all; it was always three people chatting about work together...
"Sister Li, are you free after work to grab a meal?" Ignoring Jiang Yizhou, who was watching from the sidelines, Lin Yi casually asked Li Yue.
"Sorry, I really don't have time for that; I still have things to do!" Li Yue replied apologetically, her smile still bright, making it hard to feel anything amiss.
Lin Yi chuckled awkwardly, "Oh, I see. Then I'll head out first!"
With that, he picked up his backpack and left.
Jiang Yizhou shifted his gaze from the screen and met Li Yue's eyes across from him, smiling as well. "This guy really is..."
"What is it? You clearly just want to watch me make a fool of myself!" Li Yue shot him a glare while packing her things to leave.
"How could that be? I just find it amusing. Really, it's quite funny. It's so unnatural, just like back in middle school; you can tell at a glance, hahaha!" Jiang Yizhou couldn't help but laugh. Such antics were not uncommon for someone of their age; regardless of emotional intelligence, one should at least have some self-awareness by now.
However, it was indeed somewhat unexpected.
Li Yue suddenly caught him in a slip of words. "Aren't you someone who never went to middle school?"
Jiang Yizhou paused for a moment before explaining, "That was during a reunion with my classmates from middle school; they told me stories about it as jokes. I didn't expect to see something like this in someone at this age; he should be around twenty-seven or twenty-eight, right?"
"What’s so funny? I think you’re quite ridiculous too. You've been cohabiting with Yi for so long and haven't sparked any chemistry at all. If it weren't for a girl frequently visiting you, I'd almost suspect you liked men!"
Li Yue covered her mouth, trying unsuccessfully to hide her laughter.
"Well, that girl? She's more like a good friend and my creditor. Almost half of the money for this Training Class came from her. I still have to work hard to earn money and pay her back. Sigh!"
He has been busy with work lately and really doesn't have the energy to actively seek out girls. The girl also seems to have realized the importance of studying; has the school library opened? Is she influenced by the atmosphere to study hard?
He might as well give her a call!
"Do you want to go out for dinner together?" Li Yue said, adjusting her bag and pointing downstairs. "How about we grab a bite right below?"
"I'm not going down; just bring me something up!" Jiang Yizhou leaned back in his office chair, spinning around out of boredom. This was actually one of his habits—he didn't like going out to have fun during his free time, whether it was doing a big grocery shop at the supermarket or staying home to cook and clean. He was just a homebody when it came to anime and video games.
He still hadn't changed that habit. It wasn't that he didn't want to; he just felt it was unnecessary. Just like with Ding Zhengnan, she came to find him much more often than he sought her out, although he was still quite proactive at work.
"Hey... why did you stop? What are you doing?" The chair was stopped by two hands, and even though he couldn't see, Jiang Yizhou immediately started complaining.
"Jiang Yizhou, why are you so lazy? This won't do!" Li Yue stared directly into Jiang Yizhou's eyes as he turned around, as if she would keep watching him until he decided to go eat.
"Alright, alright, I'm scared of you now, okay?" Jiang Yizhou finally yielded to someone with such strong motivation, his gaze evasive.
Just as they stepped out of the hallway, a chilly wind blew past. Jiang Yizhou was only wearing a long-sleeved shirt underneath a rather uninsulated jacket.
"It's really a bit cold!"
He turned to look at the girl beside him. She wasn't stunningly beautiful but was certainly more foresighted than him, wearing a white sweater paired with a windbreaker—simple yet practical for warmth.
"What are you looking at? No matter how much you praise me, I won't lend you my clothes!" Li Yue tightened her collar with a slightly fearful expression, which was actually playful.
"Which place are you planning to go to? I'm going to Aunt Le's shop first to buy a scarf!" Jiang Yizhou decided to make do for now; damn it, his sweater hadn't arrived yet. He didn't know if there had been a delay or if it had been sent to his dad first.
He should take some time to buy winter clothes since the apartment he shared with Qin Yi had no heating. Without heating, without heating, without heating—he often woke up recently feeling cold after kicking off the blanket and ended up catching a cold with a runny nose, making it hard for him to teach smoothly.
Recently, he simply slept at his workplace since he had already paid for the heating fees; might as well use it. He bought a folding bed and bedding and just slept there, saving himself from rushing over in the morning to open up.
Li Yue was about to reach out and place her hand on Jiang Yizhou's shoulder to go with him but felt it wasn't quite appropriate and withdrew her hand instead. "I'll go ahead and order something over there!" she pointed at a hot pot restaurant across the street.
Jiang Yizhou nodded and walked into the clothing store run by Le Chunlan on the first floor. Inside, Le Chunlan was helping two customers choose items. He didn't want to disturb them too much, so he went straight to the section where the scarves were displayed and picked out a gray scarf.
"Aunt Le, I'm here to bring you some business!"
After calling out to Aunt Le, Le Chunlan apologized to the two customers and came over to the cash register. While giving Jiang Yizhou his change, she said, "Recently, the tenants on the second floor have been complaining that you're making quite a bit of noise."
Jiang Yizhou felt a bit awkward; it was indeed somewhat noisy, especially when there were many people around—the sound of movement alone could be quite loud.
"Aunt Le, I can't help it. Am I supposed to kick people out?" Jiang Yizhou wrapped the scarf around his neck and said helplessly.
Aunt Le didn't press the issue further. "It's fine; it used to be noisy on the second floor as well. I just told them to keep it down a bit. Just pay attention yourself!"
After chatting with Aunt Le for a while longer, Jiang Yizhou finally made his way to the hot pot restaurant across the street and saw Li Yue sitting at a single table by the window. He walked over.
"I ordered medium spicy; hope you don't mind?" Li Yue said after admiring the view for a while, then rolled her eyes up towards the ceiling.
"You..." Jiang Yizhou had nothing much to say. He had never tested his limits on how spicy hot pot could be; however, medium spicy from a mountain city hot pot... he thought he might as well give it a try! Maybe he could handle it?
