“BSS, good morning…” Holding a cup of hot tea, Jiang Yizhou was immediately stopped by an employee who greeted him.
Seeing the employee hesitating and stammering, Jiang Yizhou guessed that the rumors about the company being acquired and split might have spread quickly. However, his worry faded just as quickly; such matters couldn’t be hidden for long, even if he wanted to.
“You want to ask about the acquisition, right? Don’t worry, the company is not planning to accept any acquisitions at the moment…” Jiang Yizhou finished his hot tea in one gulp and tossed the cup into a nearby trash bin, cheerfully explaining to the employee.
“What? Acquisition? Is the company going to be acquired? H, Y GD!” Sergey Brin exclaimed in surprise but immediately realized that their communication seemed off. “No, no, BSS, did you see the email I sent you last night?”
“What email?” Jiang Yizhou frowned. His mailbox and Qi number were transparent to employees in the company, but he usually didn’t check his mailbox at night, especially after playing games all night and only ordering takeout in between.
Noticing that the employee’s expression was not quite right, although Jiang Yizhou had hardly seen him before, he still kindly said, “Sorry, I was tied up with something important last night. How about we discuss this face-to-face in my office?”
Sergey had little dissatisfaction; after all, the boss's working hours were not limited to regular office hours or overtime. Besides, he had no reason to complain. He was hoping someone would buy or invest in their search engine prototype.
After having Sergey sit across from him, Jiang Yizhou opened his computer and connected to the internet to check yesterday’s emails. In an internal email from someone signed as Sergey Brin, he began to understand who this person was!
Xiaolong, you really are impressive! You managed to recruit someone like this. Jiang Yizhou felt a mix of admiration and disbelief; however, it wasn’t impossible since Ailumese was also a star enterprise with considerable talent attraction.
“Sergey Brin? An employee who joined two weeks ago? A PhD from Stanford?” To avoid any surprises, Jiang Yizhou confirmed one by one.
“Yes… yes, BSS, do you have any questions?” Sergey was also somewhat confused by Jiang Yizhou's manner.
After confirming everything, a smile gradually appeared on Jiang Yizhou's face and grew stronger. “Sergey Brin, I’ve heard from Allen that you and your colleagues developed AdSense. He thinks highly of it. According to the introduction in your email, you also developed a search engine? Can you give me a detailed introduction?”
Hearing BSS say this made Sergey feel hopeful. He immediately excitedly pulled Jiang Yizhou over to his and Larry Page's desk to showcase their preliminary results.
“Larry Page, look who I brought!” Sergey said excitedly as he greeted Larry Page and eagerly began demonstrating to Jiang Yizhou.
"This is the search engine that I built with Larry Page on the Stanford campus. We called it ggle. Although it sounds a lot like ggl, we initially thought of that name too. However, for various reasons, it is now called ggle!"
Sergey skillfully entered the server address and opened a simple webpage. Well, Jiang Yizhou felt a blind trust in these two geniuses; at least they were not incompetent. This page looked a bit like something Jiang Yizhou had just attempted to create after reading two related programming books.
"Bss, what do you want to search for?" Sergey planned to show him the most advanced search engine of the time.
"How about searching for restaurants around our company that offer takeout?" Jiang Yizhou replied with a smirk, giving the proud Sergey a jab. This kind of search involved maps and location issues, which a standalone search engine could not solve.
Unless someone had actually asked this question online and someone else happened to answer it, there would be no results.
"Bss, you know this kind of search is impossible!" Sergey said to the intentionally teasing bss, feeling helpless since he needed something from him.
Jiang Yizhou made a slight apologetic expression before diving into the experiment. He wasn't sure how far this search engine had come; the information he could access from his previous life was mostly useless, and he didn't know who was right or wrong in the differing parts.
Before Google was established in September 1998, he only remembered that Sergey Brin and Larry Page were kicked out of school for using too much bandwidth on campus and started building Google in a garage with seed funding from investors.
Now it seemed they hadn't been kicked out yet but were working here instead.
Currently, Google's search results only displayed ten precise links, and there was also a "lucky" button that would randomly redirect to one of those links—somewhat mischievous.
"Well, it's indeed impressive if you can complete it..." Jiang Yizhou stroked his chin as if considering something.
Meanwhile, Sergey and the late-arriving Larry Page felt a bit nervous.
"When will you be able to finish it?" Jiang Yizhou teased them, not making a decision so quickly.
"We..." The two exchanged glances, and in the end, it was Sergey who spoke up, "If we could get some startup capital, I think next year..."
Jiang Yizhou interrupted, "If you can guarantee completion before Christmas, I will invest three hundred thousand dollars for 15% equity. Oh, by the way, you are looking to start a company, right?"

Well, they originally just wanted to sell this search engine for a profit; there was no question of yielding or not.
Feeling more and more people gathering around him, Jiang Yizhou quickly reclaimed his office. He vaguely heard the cheers of the two.
