They came from the second floor of the hospital to the third floor, passing through the empty corridor until they reached the room at the far right end. It was a well-equipped private room, clearly prepared specifically for her, who lay sleeping. The walls were blue, and in the center of the room stood a white hospital bed. Next to the bed was a set of white tables and chairs, with a bouquet of white flowers placed on the table.
Qiluo Ling walked to the bedside and saw her. A sleeping young woman, her appearance identical to that of the woman in the portrait, though her features were more three-dimensional and beautiful than those in the portrait. Her peaceful expression radiated a dreamy light, and her slender, fair arms were exposed.
Qiluo Ling gazed deeply at her.
"Do you know her?" the middle-aged man asked.
"No, but I've seen her in the painting," Qiluo Ling replied softly.
The middle-aged man looked at her in surprise but did not press further.
"Then stay here and keep her company. Talk to her. It will be good for her. With your presence, she might wake up at some point. Perhaps she is already sensing your arrival," he said after a moment of contemplation.
"Okay. I'll spend more time with her when I can," Qiluo Ling nodded.
"I have things to attend to, so I'll head out now."
"Alright."
The middle-aged man smiled and nodded at Qiluo Ling before stepping out of the room and heading downstairs to leave.
Qiluo Ling watched him go, then turned around and moved a chair in front of the bed, slowly sitting down. She gently held her hand; it was soft and slender but cold and lifeless.
Qiluo Ling stared at her slightly protruding abdomen on the hospital bed. The fetus inside was also in a dormant state, motionless like its mother. Perhaps it was destined to be a baby that could never be born.
Qiluo Ling lowered her head and gazed at her flat abdomen for a long time. Her menstrual period had also stopped for nearly two months; could it be that she was pregnant too? Perhaps there was an embryo quietly growing inside her. But if she were to die, would the embryo inside her also, like the fetus in the woman’s abdomen, fall into eternal slumber?
As she pondered, Qiluo Ling suddenly remembered something. She gently lifted the right sleeve of Mysterious Woman. To Qiluo Ling's surprise, the sleeping woman's right arm was slender and smooth, without any marks—certainly no butterfly pattern.
Qiluo Ling felt a bit disappointed. She closed her eyes, trying to connect all the dots. Her meeting with this woman seemed preordained, and the purpose of this arrangement was undoubtedly related to music. But what connection did the sleeping woman have with Demonic Music? What was the clue?
After all her thoughts led to no conclusions, Qiluo Ling opened her eyes again and suddenly noticed that the eyelashes of the woman on the hospital bed were slightly trembling. Despite being such a subtle change, Qiluo Ling keenly caught it.
A wave of excitement surged within Qiluo Ling. If the woman on the bed could awaken, everything could be explained; there would be clues regarding Demonic Music and Third Score, and her life could be salvaged from the brink.
But when Qiluo Ling focused again, she saw that the woman's tightly shut eyelids remained still, peacefully asleep as always. Was it just her imagination? Qiluo Ling felt her thoughts beginning to spiral into confusion.
At that moment, the heavy footsteps of a middle-aged man echoed again in the corridor. Soon after, his figure appeared at the door of the hospital room.
“How long can you stay with her here?” the middle-aged man asked.
“At most two days.”
“Can you stay a little longer?”
“That’s not up to me to decide. Because in two days, I don’t even know where I will be,” Qiluo Ling replied with a wry smile.
Two days later, how would I die? Would it be quietly, becoming a vegetable like this, or would I perish in the flames of judgment? A wave of sadness surged through Qiluo Ling.
"With your company, will she wake up in two days?" the middle-aged man asked tentatively.
"I don't know," Qiluo Ling shook her head and continued, "However, I want to tell you that the reason I came to this hospital was not to find her; I just wanted to check if I was pregnant."
"Ah?" The middle-aged man looked at her in surprise, remaining silent for a long time.
