Huxin had a smile that seemed neither here nor there on her face. Even at such a close distance, Liu Yuren could not guess what she was thinking at that moment.
Weidong nodded with a smile and simply said, "Speak without reservation."
"Okay." Huxin nodded.
Meanwhile, outside A Cup of Vast Sea, a certain gentleman inside the Cloud-Top Palanquin was feeling an urgent need to relieve himself. After an hour of lively conversation, he had been savoring Fragrant Tea for that long.
"Come in."
Gu Xuanhong spoke leisurely, his magnetic voice carrying a hint of laziness. Yet, a cold glint flashed quickly in his eyes.
……
"Weidong, I fear that before you can inform Huxin, a guest is arriving." Liu Yuren's left eye twitched slightly as he lowered his gaze, a deep meaning hidden in his eyes.
Weidong was momentarily taken aback. He looked up just in time to see a figure in white gracefully entering. The tall and noble silhouette exuded three parts laziness and seven parts elegance. The white garment, embroidered with dark golden edges, swept across the black marble floor like blooming white lotuses on dark water, rising slowly with an air of mystery and grace.
Upon seeing Gu Xuanhong, Weidong was first stunned, then quickly stood up to greet him with a smile.
"Welcome to my humble establishment, Gu Family Hong Ye. It's an honor to have you here. A rare guest indeed." Weidong greeted Gu Xuanhong warmly. Although it was polite banter, their expressions conveyed the easy familiarity of old friends.
"You are not the only rare guest here." Gu Xuanhong spoke succinctly as he walked over to Huxin, casting an expressionless glance her way. His lazy yet elegant gaze inexplicably sent a chill down Huxin's spine.
It felt like standing before a block of ice on a winter day, an unexplainable chill creeping up her back.
Huxin glanced at Gu Xuanhong lightly. This man had the face of a disaster for the nation—extremely perfect features and graceful demeanor. If it weren't for the bone-chilling aura surrounding him, Huxin would hardly believe that this inexplicable coldness emanated from Gu Xuanhong himself.
If he wanted to lose his temper, let him do so; his smiling tiger expression was actually chilling. What did this mean? Did someone owe him tens of thousands of taels?
Gu Xuanhong directly sat down next to Huxin. As soon as he did, she felt even colder; goosebumps rose on her arms.
“Girl, are you cold?” Liu Yuren keenly noticed the tiny goosebumps on Huxin's wrist. While expressing concern for Huxin, he did not forget to shoot a cold glare at the culprit, Gu Xuanhong.
Gu Xuanhong, however, remained as steady as a mountain, unmoving.
He had been waiting outside for an hour; was he not allowed to vent his dissatisfaction?
Gu Xuanhong was also just a mortal, not that well-mannered.
“Not cold... not at all,” Huxin said, and as the last two words left her mouth, both Gu Xuanhong and Liu Yuren twitched their lips in a half-smile. Weidong couldn't help but chuckle.
But the next second, he found it impossible to laugh.
Because Gu Xuanhong and Liu Yuren both shot him a glare. The feeling of being glared at by one of them was already strange enough; having both of them look at him simultaneously made Weidong, who was well-informed and had friends everywhere, feel a chill run down his spine. His mental fortitude was not strong enough to withstand the threatening gazes from Gu Family Hong Ye and General Liu at the same time.
The three eyes staring at him gave him goosebumps.
“Spill your news; don’t keep it to yourself. You’ve always benefited from it,” Gu Xuanhong's tone sounded lazily magnetic, but Weidong, familiar with him, sensed an unusual tension in the air.
If Weidong's intuition was correct, the oppressive aura emanating from Gu Xuanhong at that moment should be related to Xia Huxin.
Weidong felt somewhat breathless under the combined pressure from Gu Xuanhong and Liu Yuren. With Gu Xuanhong and Huxin sitting in one row, Weidong could only sit alongside Liu Yuren.
The atmosphere in A Cup of Vast Sea suddenly shifted from laughter to tension.
Weidong had previously suspected that Liu Yuren brought Xia Huxin along to gather information; he just hadn’t expected that the rarely seen Gu Xuanhong would come in person as well.
After sitting down, under the immense pressure from both sides, he began to recount the information he had gathered.
“National Master Xuanyuan Jinzhi’s return is not merely for sightseeing.”
“I already knew that.”
“I already knew that.”
Weidong had just started to speak when Gu Xuanhong and Liu Yuren simultaneously interrupted him.
Huxin listened with displeasure and coldly said, "You know it's your business; I wouldn't know otherwise." She couldn't help but disdain the two of them in her heart, those two selfish fellows.
Gu Xuanhong stared expressionlessly at the surface of the rosewood table, his face and eyes devoid of any excess emotion. Yet, even so, the oppressive and terrifying aura in the air did not diminish in the slightest. This man had such a strong and commanding presence that as long as he was there, the atmosphere immediately felt different.
Liu Yuren merely cast a faint glance at Weidong, but that feeling was hardly any better than the pressure emanating from Gu Xuanhong.
"Although National Master Xuanyuan Jinzhi is a member of the Xuanyuan Family, since the day he became National Master, he has already severed ties with the Xuanyuan Family. Back then, Xuan Yuan Ling's madness was caused by the negligence of Xuan Yuan Old King, but it also cannot be separated from Xuanyuan Jinzhi. However, due to Xuan Yuan Ling's mother's instructions before her death, forbidding him from engaging in conflict with anyone from the Xuanyuan Family, Xuan Yuan Old King has remained silent and spends his days drowning his sorrows in alcohol."
Liu Yuren's calm voice rang out. Since this was information Huxin was unaware of, he naturally wanted to tell her directly.
Huxin tilted her head and listened intently. The memories she had from that one month regarding Xuan Yuan Ling's madness contained almost no useful information. It seemed today would be a day full of discoveries for her.
"Xuanyuan Jinzhi left Kyoto this time to seek the treasures of Water Valley. However, the obstacles he encountered along the way clearly exceeded his expectations, and Xuanyuan Jinzhi nearly lost his life in Water Valley. That supposedly mediocre Nalan Mingqing almost caused Xuanyuan Jinzhi to perish in the mountains. Xuanyuan Jinzhi chased after Nalan Mingqing all the way to Kyoto, and if my guess is correct, Nalan Mingqing is the bastard who infiltrated your room to create misunderstandings."
As Liu Yuren spoke up to this point, his tone suddenly turned cold.
The reason Nalan Mingqing treated Huxin that way had only one purpose: to delay National Master Xuanyuan Jinzhi's time to speak publicly. But for Nalan Mingqing, wasn't it more advantageous for National Master to be exposed in front of others?
