Hearing Gu Jing plead for five yuan each to repair nearly a thousand genuine Video Disks in the cabinet, Wei Yuan couldn't help but feel surprised. Clearly, from his perspective as a casual movie fan, there were plenty of pirated Video Disks available for five yuan each, often bundled together with dozens of films.
People often do things for their interests that others cannot understand, and Wei Yuan chose not to question this. His main concern was whether the Silver-gray Mist in his mind had any limitations or if it simply had a certain quantity. If that were the case, using it for Repairing Discs would be incredibly useful!
So, Wei Yuan didn't dismiss the idea outright; he merely agreed to give it a try. However, since Gu Jing was still in the store, Wei Yuan made no moves until dinner time. When Gu Jing's daughter began to cry loudly, the hefty man immediately softened upon hearing her wails. He quickly tossed the store keys to Wei Yuan and said, "Keep an eye on the store. We'll close around seven, and then you can decide what to do next!"
With that, Gu Jing left, leaving Wei Yuan somewhat astonished. Was this man really so trusting? Did he not fear that Wei Yuan would clear out everything in his store?
Of course, at that moment, Wei Yuan had no intention of doing such a thing. After casually watching a film, it was already past seven. After finishing a meal box he bought, he began examining the pile of damaged genuine Video Disks left by Gu Jing.
Without much hesitation, Wei Yuan's primary hope was to improve his current life and ensure his mother could live well. When his consciousness touched the Silver-gray Mist in his mind, he clearly noticed those strange misty substances starting to boil within his brain!
Then, under Wei Yuan's control, the Silver-gray Mist began to overflow from his mind. Upon contact with the air, it became transparent again. He controlled it in his palm while holding a dozen Video Disks in one hand and gently stroking them with the other hand that grasped the transparent mist as if giving them a massage, spreading the transparent mist over each Video Disk.
After repeating this process dozens of times, Wei Yuan discovered that half of the pile of Video Disks left by Gu Jing had been repaired. Upon inspecting several of them, he found that they looked as good as new after the repairs!
However, continuously extracting Silver-gray Mist from his mind for repairs made Wei Yuan feel increasingly lightheaded and even caused some pain. As his consciousness reached further into his mind, he could clearly observe changes occurring within the Silver-gray Mist!
The misty substance in his mind began to shift from Silver Gray to gradually include some light ink color. This change started to spread as he utilized his Repairing Ability; the Light Ink-Colored Mist slowly increased and began to overlap with the original Silver-gray Mist.
This discovery shocked Wei Yuan. Indeed, the strange Ability he obtained from Luoxia Lake was undergoing changes with continuous use. What these changes meant—whether deterioration or evolution—Wei Yuan still did not know.
However, there was no doubt that after acquiring this Ability, Wei Yuan no longer needed to live submissively like an ordinary person or look at others' faces for approval. His agreement to help Gu Jing repair these Video Disks wasn't motivated by money but rather by being moved by Gu Jing's passion for films.
After repairing more than half of the Video Disks, Wei Yuan felt a bit exhausted, especially with new Dark Ink-colored Mist appearing in his mind. He quickly stopped his work and watched a movie for a while. When Wei Yuan was about to sleep, he realized that he had become a mere worker, but little did he know that sleeping would be the hardest part to endure...
Lying in the attic arranged by Gu Jing, which had not been slept in for years, although there was a mattress laid out, dust filled the air. Fortunately, Wei Yuan was not a picky person and could barely accept it. It wasn't until he was drowsily asleep in the middle of the night that he discovered a cockroach sharing his bed, and he could vaguely hear the sound of mice gnawing on hard objects!
The noise was extremely grating, clearly indicating that there was more than one mouse. The floorboards in the attic were chewed up, and Wei Yuan even suspected that the attic could collapse at any moment! Upon discovering this strange phenomenon, Wei Yuan quickly controlled the Light Ink-Colored Mist back into his palm and applied it to another pile of Video Disks that had yet to be repaired. After some time, as the transparent energy in the air began to deplete, Wei Yuan saw that the Silver-gray Mist in his mind started to gain dominance, and all those Video Disks were finally repaired.
The repairs for all damaged Video Disks were completed in two sessions. This process did not take long; however, it was extremely perilous for Wei Yuan due to the abnormal changes occurring with those misty substances in his mind. Although there were no significant side effects, psychologically, Wei Yuan still bore considerable pressure!
Finally completing everything, when he opened the door to the Video Store, Wei Yuan let out a sigh of relief. As daylight broke, Gu Jing had probably come early out of concern for his precious Video Disks. In just a short acquaintance, Gu Jing no longer acted like a boss; they got along well. Gu Jing opened the cabinet storing the Video Disks and after playing several films in succession asked in surprise, "Is everything fixed?"
To avoid any trouble, Wei Yuan replied, "Not so fast; about half is done."
Upon hearing this, Gu Jing knew his genuine Video Disks were saved and excitedly handed over five thousand dollars to Wei Yuan without thinking twice: "This is your reward; thank you!"
Wei Yuan understood how much this meant and accepted the money while listening to Gu Jing curiously ask: "Brother, can you tell me how you have such skills? Why would you settle for working in my store?"
Suddenly Gu Jing exclaimed joyfully: "Haha! If you become rich and famous in the future, I will be your first boss! That’s such an achievement! You should sign a few dozen names for me now so I can sell them later!"
It seemed that Gu Jing was completely impressed by Wei Yuan now; even handing over money was done with great enthusiasm without fear that Wei Yuan would take the money and leave. A thought suddenly crossed Wei Yuan's mind; instead of directly answering Gu Jing's question, he exchanged pleasantries for a while. Since it wasn't time to start work yet, he said goodbye to Gu Jing and walked out of the Video Store with his first earnings of five thousand dollars from Repairing Discs.
The urgent task is to quickly find a way to rent a house. In the Ancient Crystal Audio-Visual Store, Wei Yuan couldn't stay even for one night, fearing that if he fell asleep one night, he would become a meal for the rats.
After finding a real estate agency and scheduling viewings for several units, Wei Yuan found a place to drink a bowl of soy milk. Just as he was about to pay and leave, he suddenly noticed an old man, a Scrap Collector, pulling a cart with four large cardboard boxes filled with a pile of tattered old books.
Wei Yuan immediately became interested and walked over to chat with the old man: "Sir, what do you plan to do with all these old books?"
