"Mother!" Da Lang saw Qin Yaru and immediately rushed over, grabbing her hand and frowning, "You’re back! Uncle Lai is looking for you; it’s urgent."
Lai San's expression didn’t seem particularly anxious; on the contrary, there was a hint of schadenfreude. Upon seeing Qin Yaru, he coughed and said seriously, "Consort Qin, Elder Ji asked me to invite you to take a look. There’s a patient with severe internal injuries; he has no way out and wants you to see if there's any hope."
He spoke slowly, showing no signs of urgency.
Qin Yaru frowned. Before she could speak, she heard a hissing sound coming from the carriage behind her, reminiscent of someone scratching wood with their nails.
The noise was quite grating. Lai San looked up at the carriage and muttered reluctantly, "He came to catch the elder brother; he deserves it if he dies!"
That said, Lai San still raised his head and said, "Consort Qin, you should go take a look. If it doesn’t work out, it’s just that man’s bad luck. At least we’ve done our part and can feel no guilt."
The resentment in his words seemed to suggest that he wouldn’t mind if that person couldn’t be saved. Qin Yaru shook her head, went inside to get her medicine box, and then turned to board Bai Yunsheng's carriage.
Originally, when Qin Yaru saw Bai Yunsheng in the carriage, she suddenly realized that the gentleman Bai had vanished without a trace. Although puzzled, she didn’t delve into it further. She instructed Da Lang to study well and keep an eye on Tie Zhu so that Tie Zhu wouldn’t run around outside all the time. Then she had Lai San drive the carriage swiftly away.
Bai Yunsheng's horse was an excellent yellow steed with great endurance and speed. In no time at all, they arrived at Ji Ren Tang. After being led into a sunny guest room in the backyard by an attendant who had been waiting at the door, Qin Yaru saw the officer who had saved those dozen or so abducted girls lying on the bed.
Four men in official attire stood beside him, their faces filled with anxiety and tears in their eyes.
Elder Ji sat by the bed, checking his pulse.
As Qin Yaru stepped closer, she noticed that the man’s eyes were tightly closed, his face pale as ash, and his breathing faint. She couldn’t help but pause and quietly ask, "Elder Ji, how is he?"
Elder Ji shook his head. "I’m afraid it’s not good. A Qin should come take a look too." With such severe internal injuries, the only remedy was to endure; if one was strong enough to pull through, they might survive; if not, there would be no need for treatment—only death awaited.
These men had initially gone to find Hao Shenyi, but after Hao Shenyi checked his pulse without hesitation and declared he could not be treated, they had no choice but to come to Ji Ren Tang.
Elder Ji knew very well that in such a situation, out of ten, nine and a half would die. He invited Qin Yaru over just to try his luck, seeing how heartbroken and pitiful those four men were.
The faces of the four men changed drastically upon hearing this. One of them swayed unsteadily, while another couldn't help but burst into tears.
Qin Yaru walked over and pressed on the patient's abdomen. As soon as he touched him, even in his unconscious state, the patient broke into a sweat from the pain, his face contorted. As Qin Yaru's hand moved, the patient's complexion worsened, and he even began to emit suppressed groans.
Seeing their superior in such unbearable pain, the expressions of the four men changed. Their gazes towards Qin Yaru turned fierce; if it weren't for Elder Ji advising them nearby, they might have rushed over to drive Qin Yaru away.
However, Qin Yaru had no intention of explaining too much to these men. He frowned and asked, "Has he suffered a severe blow here?"
He placed his hand on the upper left side of the patient's abdomen and gently tapped it, turning to ask one of the more composed men among the four.
After thinking for a while, the man wiped away his tears and said bitterly, "Zhan Commander was injured half a month ago. He just bore with it; we didn't know how serious the injury was."
Another man slammed his hand on the medicine bowl on the table angrily and said, "It's all that Bai Yunsheng's fault! If it weren't for him, Zhan Commander wouldn't have easily provoked anyone out of pride. How could this disaster have happened? He clearly knew our Zhan Commander was injured and still fought with him!"
Qin Yaru sighed and ignored these men. With a bit more force, he saw Zhan Yu curl up in pain and wake up completely.
Once he woke up, the groans stopped. Qin Yaru couldn't help but raise an eyebrow; people were indeed different at this time. He remembered when he interned at the Fourth Hospital years ago, even when bandaging minor wounds, patients would cry and complain for a long time over just a scratch. This man was severely injured yet showed no signs of discomfort on his face.
Thinking of this, Qin Yaru's expression softened slightly as he spoke softly, "Zhan Commander, did you suffer a severe blow here?"
Zhan Yu's gaze flickered slightly as he casually replied, "I bumped into something this morning."
"What do you mean bumped? It was clearly that Bai Yunsheng who was heavy-handed and hurt Zhan Commander!" The other men crowded around Zhan Yu upon seeing him awake, each chiming in to paint Bai Yunsheng as a ruthless villain!
Zhan Yu frowned and said angrily, "Stop talking nonsense. Doctor, this is an old injury flaring up; it has nothing to do with Bai Yunsheng."
Qin Yaru sighed, "Let's not worry about that for now. I see that you are seriously injured and may have internal bleeding. Have you taken any wound medicine?"
Zhan Yu nodded, "The wound medicine my master gave me is quite effective." As a martial artist, he had developed the habit of carrying wound medicine with him. Upon realizing something was wrong, he took it immediately. Based on his previous experiences, it shouldn't have been this severe, but unexpectedly, this time was different, and the wound medicine was ineffective.
Qin Yaru examined Zhan Yu's wound medicine. Although it had some hemostatic effects, it was far from good and acted slowly. If the bleeding was mild, it might help a bit; however, in cases of severe bleeding, it would likely only provide a little comfort.
She shook her head and took out a bottle of Yunnan Baiyao from her medicine box and administered it to Zhan Yu. This medicine was renowned for its hemostatic properties. Even Qin Yaru didn't have much of it. Although the formula for Yunnan Baiyao was a secret, she had once tried to replicate it using publicly available ingredients out of curiosity. The result she produced, while not as good as Yunnan Baiyao, was still quite close. Once her supply of Yunnan Baiyao ran out, she would be able to find alternatives.
Elder Ji hesitated as he saw Qin Yaru give Zhan Yu the medicine and asked, "Is there still hope?"
In an instant, everyone in the room turned their gaze to Qin Yaru, their intense stares making her feel flushed. However, she couldn't make any guarantees and could only shake her head with a bitter smile: "Elder Ji, you can see his condition. If we do nothing, he will surely die..."
The expressions of the four men instantly dimmed.
Zhan Yu, however, remained composed and smiled slightly: "If this is a calamity I must face in my life, then there's nothing I can do about it. You don't need to be too sad."
Qin Yaru pressed her lips together: "There is only one method now. Although it's not guaranteed to cure you, it's indeed the only option we have at the moment."
