The Medicine Basket at Jiren Hall was surprisingly large, standing about half a person tall, with straps as thick as an adult's palm.
Qin Yaru carried the basket, and its size made her slender figure appear even more delicate, causing concern among the shop assistants.
Elder Ji stroked his beard and said with a smile, "Since A Ya left, this medicine basket hasn't been used for over two years. A Qin, be careful when you go into the mountains; just don't fall."
Elder Ji had taken in countless disciples throughout his life, one of whom was named A Ya. He wasn't particularly outstanding and only followed him for a little over a year before leaving, seemingly to join the army.
Among Elder Ji's many disciples, this one was so unremarkable that he might not even remember him, yet this young man had a unique trait—he was incredibly strong.
By the age of eight, he could lift over two hundred pounds. At eleven or twelve, he could easily push an adult man over with a casual gesture. His appetite was astonishing; at four or five years old, he ate more than three or five adults combined. By the time he grew into his teenage years, his family could no longer afford to feed him.
Helplessly, his father had to send him to Wudang County to find work. A Ya was honest and didn't fuss over wages; with his strength and willingness to work hard, he should have found a job easily. However, his enormous appetite made it impossible for most families to support him; just feeding him would leave them impoverished.
As time went on, no one in Wudang County would hire him. After going hungry for more than half a month and not wanting to return home and burden his parents, he felt silent and depressed until he encountered Elder Ji.
Fortuitously for him, Elder Ji was a good man. Seeing that the boy was honest and simple-minded, he took him in after one of the assistants responsible for preparing herbs left to care for his own parents.
As for his large appetite, that truly wasn't an issue; Ji Ren Tang had plenty of food to spare.
Thus, A Ya began his career as an assistant at Ji Ren Tang. He was grateful and diligently memorized what Elder Ji taught him while striving to learn how to identify herbs. Although he didn't excel in medical skills, he quickly learned how to gather herbs.
He was strong and bold, having grown up in the mountains and familiar with the paths there. Before long, he gathered more herbs alone than all seventeen or eighteen assistants at Ji Ren Tang combined. Elder Ji was so pleased that he accepted him as his disciple.
Now, the Medicine Basket that Qin Yaru is using is the one that A Ya once used. As for why the Qin Young Lady has so many medicine baskets but insists on this one, it is still because of the three characters engraved on that basket—'Gu Chunya.'
Those characters are graceful and beautiful, yet full of strength. Although they cannot be considered exceptional, they are indeed quite good.
Qin Yaru never expected to see these three characters—Gu Chunya—by chance in this ordinary pharmacy. Gu Chunya is certainly not a historical figure; in this era of many celebrities during the Northern Song Dynasty, he is just an ordinary person. However, for Qin Yaru, this person left a deep impression on her.
In her previous life, Gu Chunya worked tirelessly and made great efforts to finally deliver her elder brother's letter into her hands. Later, he desperately tried to persuade her to leave County Horse Manor.
But at that time, it was all too late. Qin Yaru had already been deceived by the Princess into signing a contract and became a concubine of Chen Wenyue. Nothing could change that!
In this world, how could she not know the fate of a runaway concubine? Even if she regretted it and suffered, she did not dare to leave County Horse Manor!
She watched helplessly as that young man, barely in his twenties, gritted his teeth and argued with the County Horse, desperately trying to save her from suffering. Qin Yaru couldn't help but feel moved; although Gu Chunya was just an ordinary low-ranking military officer, whose status was inherently lower than that of civil officials, he had no identity or background. Competing with the County Horse was like an ant trying to shake a tree. In the end, he accomplished nothing, but Qin Yaru could not ignore his feelings.
It seemed that Gu Chunya was quite talented. In her elder brother's letter, it mentioned that he had excellent swordsmanship and was extremely knowledgeable about military strategy. If it weren't for those above him repeatedly taking credit for his achievements and his honest nature that prevented him from fighting back, along with his lack of connections and background, he might have become an outstanding general.
A clerk from Ji Ren Tang was tidying up the herbs for Qin Yaru while talking about A Ya: "Why are you inquiring about him? That guy joined the army two years ago when his family was short on money. He didn't understand such an obvious truth that good men shouldn't become soldiers. What a fool!"
Qin Yaru smiled and said, "If A Ya has any news to send back, please let him know I have something I need him to inquire about."
This Gu Chunya clearly knew her elder brother. If they could make contact sooner, perhaps their family reunion would come a little earlier.
The clerk readily agreed.
Bai Yunsheng had been poking at the side for a while, showing some impatience. He stepped forward, grabbed the medicine basket on Qin Yaru's back, slung it over his own shoulder, and frowned, saying, "Aren't we going to gather herbs? If we don't leave soon, it will be dark."
Qin Yaru raised an eyebrow; since someone wanted to escort her, that was naturally the best.
The two of them left the house and took a carriage straight to Wudang Mountain. It wasn't until they reached the foot of the mountain that Bai Yunsheng dismissed the carriage driver and led Qin Yaru up the mountain.
It had rained yesterday, making the mountain path a bit slippery. Bai Yunsheng was skilled in lightness techniques and naturally didn't think much of this rugged path. But what kind of person was Qin Yaru? She was the wife of a scholar from a scholarly family, someone who had rarely stepped outside before. Yet now, as she climbed the mountain, she moved with ease and didn't lag behind Bai Yunsheng by much.
Bai Yunsheng blinked and rested his chin on his hand, thinking it was a pity—originally, when he saw the rugged mountain path from below, he had a secret thought in mind. For example, if Consort Qin got tired from climbing, he could boldly ask to be her hero and help her.
All men are somewhat lecherous; even if he had no romantic intentions towards Qin Yaru, who would refuse a chance to be close to a beauty? Moreover, Bai Yunsheng was not a man who understood rules very well and was far from being hypocritical.
Unfortunately, this beauty was quite formidable and did not give him the chance to be her hero!
Qin Yaru was unaware of what Bai Yunsheng was thinking. As she climbed the mountain, she broke a slight sweat but felt comfortable all over, her heart also feeling much lighter.
It hadn't been long since she returned to this world, yet it felt like an eternity. In fact, it had indeed been a different era; the various aspects of the Twenty-First Century were gradually becoming vague. Now, as she climbed higher and looked further, she felt reminiscent of the times spent wandering with Gao Feng.
