In the late night, the torrential rain nearly submerged the entire city.
Jian Yunong never expected to be kicked out of the Jian Family at this moment.
She fell heavily into the rain-soaked ground, ignoring the pain in her knees, clutching tightly to Mom's Ashes Box, kneeling at the door.
"I beg you... let my mother at least be buried with my father!"
"I don't want anything else; I've given you all the inheritance, isn't that enough? Please!"
"My mother has never wronged you; why treat her like this?"
The butler inside the iron gate held an umbrella, his expression emotionless: "The person who wronged your mother is you. As long as you go and ask that person for help, everything can be discussed."
Jian Yunong couldn't tell whether it was rain or tears on her face, shaking her head vigorously: "You all know he wants me to be his mistress! He is already married!"
Her pride was nothing but a joke in the Jian Family's eyes. As long as someone could sleep with a man, they could get a sum of money to ease the company's operations; why not do it?
The Jian Family attributed all their misfortunes to Jian Yunong, this unworthy descendant.
The butler silently shook his head and disappeared into the brightly lit villa of the Jian Family.
Jian Yunong remained kneeling in the rain for a long time without getting up.
On the roadside, a Rolls-Royce was parked.
Inside the car, a pair of cold, deep eyes stared at that figure in the rain for a long time.
"Is that her?"
Huo Jincheng casually lifted his thin lips.
"Yes." The assistant sitting in the front row took out the information. "Jian Yunong, 20 years old. The old man arranged a betrothal for you and her. Later, Jian Yunong's parents moved away, and there has been no contact with the Huo Family. Until a few days ago, before her mother passed away, she specifically wrote a letter to the family, bringing up the token from back then, asking the Huo Family to honor their promise." After a pause, he added, "She specifically requested... that you marry her."
This was the reason Huo Jincheng appeared at the Jian Family's doorstep on a rainy night.
Huo San Shao had lived for over twenty years, only to find out he had an unexpected fiancée.
Now, that fiancée was kneeling helplessly in the rain, holding the ashes of his deceased Mother-in-law.
"Give me the umbrella."
Huo Jincheng commanded.
The assistant glanced at the heavy rain outside. "Young Master, let me go instead."
Huo Jincheng raised an eyebrow dangerously, his tone laced with cold sarcasm. "Or would you like to marry her for me?"
The assistant fell silent.
Huo Jincheng stepped into the rain, holding a black umbrella. The crisp fabric of his trousers was almost instantly soaked, yet he remained unhurried, exuding an air of natural nobility.
Suddenly, Jian Yunong felt that the rain above her head had stopped. In front of her stood a pair of men's leather shoes; looking up, she saw the man's long legs.
Rainwater blurred her vision as it flowed into her eyes. She blinked hard and wiped them away with her hand when a deep, magnetic voice sounded above her.
"Jian Yunong, I am your fiancé."
She froze in place, looking up at him, her rain-washed eyes sparkling as they clearly reflected Huo Jincheng.
He wore a well-tailored peacock blue suit with a white shirt and a royal blue tie. The strikingly handsome man looked like a deity descending from the heavens.
Jian Yunong revealed an expression of astonishment.
She had heard her grandfather mention her betrothal partner before, but she always thought it was a joke.
"Do you like talking while kneeling?" Huo Jincheng raised an eyebrow and smiled at her in a teasing manner.
Jian Yunong finally realized that she was kneeling in front of him, feeling quite embarrassed! She panicked and accidentally stumbled on her knees.
"Can you walk?"
Huo Jincheng asked seemingly with concern, but he did not extend a hand to help her.
Jian Yunong was already flustered and bit her lip as she replied, "I can."
In the next moment, Huo Jincheng's hand was already on her shoulder, leading her toward the car. Jian Yunong almost had to jog to keep up with his pace before being pushed into the vehicle.
By the time Jian Yunong came to her senses, she had followed Huo Jincheng to a villa.
An Italian Crystal Chandelier hung from the second floor down to the first, and the bright white light made Jian Yunong feel a bit disoriented as she tightly hugged her mother's ashes box.
She actually followed a stranger man home, Jian Yunong thought belatedly.
However, this man looked wealthy; what could he want from her?
"Have some wine to warm yourself up."
Huo Jincheng grabbed whatever he found in the kitchen. This villa used to belong to one of his friends, who was not home at this late hour, probably lingering in some nightclub.
Jian Yunong wanted to refuse, but before she could say anything, she sneezed.
"Sorry."
How embarrassing.
She didn't dare to look at him.
After wiping her nose, Jian Yunong took a small sip; it tasted good, sweet on her tongue. She couldn't help but take another small sip.
The heavy rain pounded against the floor-to-ceiling windows, making a loud noise, which made them feel like they were on a deserted island, quiet and warm.
Huo Jincheng leaned back steadily on the sofa and suddenly spoke, "We've never met before."
Jian Yunong was startled and quickly sat up straight, holding her wine glass on her lap like a student preparing to listen to a teacher's lecture. This man always exuded a strong presence, even though he looked gentle when he took her home.
"Are you afraid of me?" Huo Jincheng raised an eyebrow and smiled. The mischief in his phoenix eyes made Jian Yunong's face flush and her heart race; she instinctively nodded and then shook her head frantically.
He slowly spoke in a deep and gentle voice, "You don't have to be afraid of me. I'm here for only one purpose today." He paused for a moment. "I want you to cancel the engagement."
Jian Yunong's eyes widened as she looked at him, her gaze shocked.
"What? You don't want to?"
Huo Jincheng smiled playfully and pulled her into his embrace.
The crisp scent of a man instantly filled her nostrils.
A magnetic and teasing voice whispered in her ear, "Or you could choose to make things official right now."
His hand playfully pinched her earlobe.
Jian Yunong was so frightened that tears welled up in her eyes. "If we’re going to cancel the engagement, then let’s just do it. Why do you have to humiliate me?"
Did she really look that easy?
Huo Jincheng released Jian Yunong.
He took a moment to light a cigarette, and Jian Yunong lowered her head to secretly wipe away her tears with the wine glass in her hand, creating ripples in the goblet.
Huo Jincheng felt a strange sensation in his heart.
"Do you know who I am?"
He bit down on the cigarette, his tone cool and detached.
Jian Yunong finished the last sip of wine in her glass and placed it lightly on the coffee table. "Why should I know? Haven't we already severed ties?"
She stood up, remembering to thank him. "Thank you for the... wine..."
The room was peaceful and warm, but it was not her haven; she had to leave, to face the storm alone. After all, she no longer had her parents.
Jian Yunong walked slowly, each step feeling heavy and exhausting. Her stubborn yet fragile silhouette caught Huo Jincheng's eye, causing his brow to furrow.
"I can help you return to the Jian Family."
Huo Jincheng's cool voice rang out behind her, steady and unhurried.
Jian Yunong paused, straightening her slender back. Return to the Jian Family? With her parents gone, there was no point in going back!
The confusion before her lasted only a moment as Jian Yunong resolutely shook her head.
Huo Jincheng slowly approached her from behind, his magnetic and clear voice tempting her: "I can make you the master of the Jian Family."
Jian Yunong stood at the entrance, turning to look at Huo Jincheng. The warm light above illuminated his distinct features, making him appear almost warm.
Her beautiful lips curled slightly. "Are you trying to compensate me?"
Huo Jincheng looked down at her from above, like a king surveying his realm—arrogant and cold. "I just don't want anyone to know that my former fiancée is living such a miserable life."
Jian Yunong's delicate brows and eyes were faintly charming, and her voice carried a hint of sarcasm: "Don't worry, no one knew before, and no one will know in the future."
If this got out, it would only provide others, especially the Jian Family, with more ammunition to mock her. Being rejected by two men who were supposed to walk down the aisle with her was certainly not something pleasant.
Jian Yunong bent down to put on her shoes and walked to the door, but found that she couldn't open it no matter what.
"There are many rooms; feel free to choose one, except for the master bedroom on the second floor."
Huo Jincheng had no intention of helping her. He tossed out this remark and crossed his long legs as he headed upstairs.
The German-made professional anti-theft and anti-violence door was something a young girl like Jian Yunong could never hope to open.
Huo Jincheng quickly took a shower and came out feeling extremely thirsty. He went downstairs to get some water, only to find Jian Yunong also searching for something to drink.
Her small face was flushed, wearing a loose men's bathrobe that hung loosely on her like a porcelain doll.
"I... I searched everywhere, but all I found was... was... alcohol..."
Jian Yunong had drunk quite a bit, and her tongue felt heavy.
Huo Jincheng ignored the drunken girl and poured himself a glass. As it went down his throat, it was indeed sweet and moist, but the dryness in his mouth became even more pronounced. By the time he realized there might be something wrong with the alcohol, they had already finished off an entire bottle between them.
"There's nothing left... I'll go look again..."
Jian Yunong prepared to head to the kitchen, but as soon as she stood up and took a couple of steps, she tripped.
She fell right into Huo Jincheng's arms.
The warmth was enticing; through the silk robe, Jian Yunong's breath was perfectly positioned just below his waist.
All the heat instantly concentrated at one point!
It felt like it was going to explode from the heat!
Jian Yunong only felt herself being lifted and then fell onto the sofa. Immediately, a strong, hot body covered her.
She opened her eyes and looked at Huo Jincheng, who had suddenly pounced on her, in confusion.
"What did you put in the drink?"
Huo Jincheng stared intensely at this woman, his dark eyes filled with rage, convinced that she was the one who had schemed against him! She must have pretended to be innocent and pitiful earlier to let his guard down, and now she was playing this trick.
"Get off me... don't... crush me..."
Jian Yunong felt weak all over; she didn't know what was wrong. When she tried to push Huo Jincheng's hand away, it felt like trying to move cooked noodles—soft and limp. Pressing against Huo Jincheng's strong chest felt almost teasing.
Huo Jincheng's rationality instantly shattered!
He fiercely kissed her full lips, stained with alcohol, as a way to retaliate for her dishonesty!
