Jian Yunong raised her hand to cover her nose, her delicate eyebrows furrowing, and her face was filled with impatience. "Hurry up and go back."
"I'm not here for you," Huo Jincheng said, looking down at her. "Your aunt said you were feeling unwell, so I came over."
Jian Yunong smiled faintly. "Just because you were told to come, you came? When did you become so obedient?"
Huo Jincheng's gaze towards Jian Yunong changed instantly; was this girl really thinking that just because they were married, she could act like she was on top of the world?
However, with others around, Huo Jincheng wouldn't lose his gentlemanly demeanor and embarrass her.
"Do you want everyone at the hotel to know we got married tomorrow?"
Huo Jincheng's indifferent remark awakened Jian Yunong: they were standing at the entrance of the hotel, and being this close made it easy for acquaintances to see them.
Fortunately, Mist Shenshen had already thoughtfully walked over, followed closely by Le Yi and Yi Nansheng.
"Mr. Huo, Jian Yunong just said she wasn't feeling well earlier, but now that you're here, she's fine. The baby in her belly isn't causing any trouble anymore."
Mist Shenshen deliberately said this for Yi Nansheng to hear!
Jian Yunong felt utterly embarrassed; the baby was still just an embryo and didn't even have a heartbeat yet—what trouble could it cause?
The doctor present, Le Yi, smiled with pursed lips. She wasn't lacking in emotional intelligence to correct Mist Shenshen's unscientific statement; instead, she turned to look at her husband.
She couldn't tell if it was her imagination, but when Mist Shenshen mentioned the baby in Jian Yunong's belly, Le Yi felt as if Yi Nansheng's body had trembled slightly.
"My sister-in-law is amazing. Huo Jincheng didn't say a word and just took care of such a big life event. Grandpa and Grandma are thrilled. When the baby turns one month old, Huo Jincheng will hold a wedding ceremony—wife and child all settled at once."
Le Yi smiled happily.
Yi Nansheng's eyes darkened slightly, and he gently curled the corners of his lips, saying "Congratulations."
However, in Yi Nansheng's heart, there was a knife grinding at his core.
Yi Nansheng thought he had plenty of time to slowly bring Jian Yunong back to his side, but now someone had gotten ahead of him, and the opponent was Huo Jincheng. Yi Nansheng felt as if a thorn was lodged in his throat.
Huo Jincheng nodded reservedly, "It's getting late; you should head back to rest. Let's have a proper meal together another day."
Le Yi followed Yi Nansheng into the car, her smile radiant, making her seem enviably vibrant.
Jian Yunong lifted her foot to follow her aunt into the hotel but was pinched on the arm by Mist Shenshen.
Mist Shenshen lowered her voice, "Your husband came specifically to see you; why are you following me? You two are married now, do you understand? You're not just friends with benefits!"
Jian Yunong scoffed and glanced at Huo Jincheng a few steps away. "I actually wish we were just friends with benefits! Sleep for one night, and then it's over."
"Stop talking nonsense!" Mist Shenshen exclaimed, cursing. "Our family has never had such poor upbringing. What are you saying? You should be grateful to Mr. Huo for marrying you! Look at you; you haven't had a boyfriend in all these years!"
Jian Yunong moved her lips, drawing Mist Shenshen's murderous gaze. Could dating someone like Yi Nansheng even be considered dating? It couldn't!
Mist Shenshen escorted Jian Yunong to the car and, addressing her nephew-in-law, never dared to act like an elder. "Mr. Huo, Jian Yunong is pregnant and has a strange temper; please be understanding."
"Thank you for your hard work. Take a day off tomorrow."
Huo Jincheng's words made Jian Yunong turn to look at him.
The car slowly started moving.
At the intersection, Jian Yunong was about to get out of the car.
However, the driver in the front seat seemed deaf, showing no reaction and continuing to drive forward.
Jian Yunong realized that since the main person hadn’t spoken up, there was no way he would listen to her commands.
After getting in the car, Huo Jincheng had been resting with his eyes closed. The streetlights were soft, casting circles of light on his handsome face.
Under the lights, he looked like a beautiful sight to behold.
But Jian Yunong had no mood to appreciate it. Her mind was still occupied with the intimate scene of Yi Nansheng and Le Yi, with Le Yi linking her arm with his, smiling so sweetly.
She felt no jealousy; she was simply reminded of the days when she might have to meet Yi Nansheng, and a wave of nausea rose from the depths of her heart.
“Huo Jincheng, let’s get a divorce.”
Jian Yunong almost blurted it out. This impulse had been brewing in her heart ever since she learned that Yi Nansheng, her scumbag ex, had become her brother-in-law.
One reason she left A City was because of Yi Nansheng’s relentless pursuit.
“You don’t love me, and I don’t love you. Why do we have to be married? A marriage without love isn’t good for the children either.”
After she rambled on about this, she waited for Huo Jincheng’s response but received none for a long time. She turned to look at him; Huo Jincheng was breathing evenly and deeply, clearly already asleep.
Jian Yunong felt deflated, shrinking into the corner like a wilted cabbage after frost.
At the entrance of the villa.
Huo Jincheng was awakened by Jian Yunong.
"Hey, hey, hey, we're home."
Her way of waking him up was quite rough; she directly slapped his face twice. The driver watched nervously from the side, knowing that Huo Jincheng had a bad temper and needed to sleep until he naturally woke up after drinking. The driver wanted to help Huo Jincheng inside, but unexpectedly, Jian Yunong woke him up.
Huo Jincheng furrowed his handsome brows and squinted his phoenix eyes, glaring at Jian Yunong.
"What’s the point of drowning your sorrows? If you have the ability, go win her back," Jian Yunong said, seemingly oblivious to the hostility in his expression. "I can explain things to her; we can even get a divorce. I can raise the child alone. I won’t disturb your lives."
She even raised her hand to swear, "I'm not interested in you."
Huo Jincheng suddenly smiled, the alcohol-induced grin accentuating his striking features with a hint of mischief and allure.
He reached out and poked Jian Yunong on the forehead. "Do you think I would let a second woman refuse me?"
Jian Yunong leaned back slightly from his poke, stunned, her round eyes wide open.
The smile on Huo Jincheng's lips deepened.
When Mist Shenshen poked Jian Yunong, she looked as timid as a little bun. He had wondered why the knowledgeable and elegant Public Relations Manager would make such a rough move; it turned out that this person not only felt good to poke but was also quite amusing.
Huo Jincheng poked her again.
Is he addicted to poking now? Jian Yunong's shock turned into anger; her eyes widened and her lips puffed out.
"I warn you, when I get angry, I can hit myself."
Huo Jincheng laughed, his eyes and brows relaxed, full of springtime vitality. Jian Yunong didn't expect that this arrogant man would have a sunny demeanor when he laughed, making her heart flutter.
In the next moment, Jian Yunong wished she could poke her own eyes out because Huo Jincheng poked her again, this time outrageously, poking her three times in a row.
"Come on, hit yourself. I want to see how fierce you can be."
"Ah ah ah ah!"
Jian Yunong lunged forward, ready to hit Huo Jincheng.
"Knock knock knock."
Suddenly, someone knocked on the car window.
"Huo Jincheng? Are you drunk?"
The person outside opened the car door and was stunned by the scene inside: Jian Yunong was sitting on Huo Jincheng's waist, and Huo Jincheng had a smile at the corner of his mouth, their hands tightly clasped together.
Bang! The car door was slammed shut again!
Jian Yunong didn't miss the shocked expression of that woman as if she had been electrocuted. For some reason, Jian Yunong felt that this woman looked familiar, as if she had seen her somewhere before.
"How much longer are you going to sit on me?"
Huo Jincheng's cool and teasing voice came through, and Jian Yunong suddenly remembered that she was still pressing down on him.
Forget it; since she had taken advantage of him while he was asleep and slapped him twice, she decided not to hold it against him.
Jian Yunong got off the car first.
The woman stood under the streetlight in front of the villa, holding a thermos in her hand. The bright white light outlined her graceful silhouette. A sense of familiarity washed over Jian Yunong, causing her to stop in her tracks until Huo Jincheng's voice rang out above her.
"Sister-in-law."
The woman, who had been lost in thought, looked up.
"How did you get here?"
Huo Jincheng placed his hand on Jian Yunong's shoulder. He hadn't felt the headache while sitting, but now he was acutely aware of the pain from drinking too much.
"This is the nourishing soup Grandma asked me to bring you. You've been drinking again, haven't you?" She smiled gently. "Grandma will definitely scold you if she finds out."
"If you don't say anything, how would Grandma know?" Huo Jincheng sat down on the sofa and rubbed his throbbing temples.
"You, go pour me a glass of water," Huo Jincheng instructed Jian Yunong.
But Jian Yunong didn't even know where the kitchen was.
Steeling herself, she managed to spot the kitchen and went in, finding a cup to pour herself a glass of cold water.
"After drinking, he can't have cold water," Huo Jincheng's sister-in-law appeared in the kitchen. "Cold water will upset his stomach."
"I didn't know," Jian Yunong sensed that this person was blaming her.
Huo Jincheng's sister-in-law took out a set of tea utensils from the cupboard and found a tea bag. After boiling the water, she placed it inside, and within three minutes, a pot of hangover tea was ready.
"Huo Jincheng, have some hangover tea and then drink a bowl of soup."
The Sister-in-law of Huo Jincheng held out the bowl of soup, intending to pass it to Huo Jincheng, but he did not take it. Instead, he looked at Jian Yunong beside him.
"You’re pregnant, you need to drink more of this nourishing soup."
Jian Yunong felt a bit flattered.
The Sister-in-law of Huo Jincheng showed a surprised expression on her face. "She is..."
"My wife." Huo Jincheng handed the bowl of soup to Jian Yunong. "Call her Sister-in-law."
"Sister-in-law." Jian Yunong felt a bit displeased.
Wasn't it agreed that they would keep their marriage a secret? Why did it feel like more and more people knew about their marriage?
"I'll go take a shower first."
Huo Jincheng took long strides up to the second floor. He didn't even drink the hangover tea.
Huo Jincheng's Sister-in-law looked at Jian Yunong and suddenly spoke up, "Huo Jincheng's previous girlfriends were all tall and curvy."
Jian Yunong put down the bowl of soup and looked at the Sister-in-law with sincere eyes. "Are you looking for a fight?"
