Waking up from a deep sleep, Jian Yunong found herself awakened by hunger.
She seemed to smell the food that Sister Zhang was cooking, and she wanted nothing more than to get out of bed and eat.
However, just as she sat up, a force pulled her back onto the bed.
"Where are you going?"
Huo Jincheng's hoarse and deep voice came from behind her, accompanied by his hot breath on her neck.
"To eat... to eat..." Jian Yunong stammered, clutching the bedsheet.
What was he doing at home at this hour?
Looking outside, it was dark, and the city lights were just coming on.
"Where did you go yesterday?"
"I..."
Before she could answer, the phone on the bedside rang.
Huo Jincheng reached for the phone; it was his sister Le Yi calling.
As he grabbed the phone, he also pulled the small woman who was trying to sneak out of bed back into his embrace. Jian Yunong felt soft in his arms, like a little kitten. He couldn't help but caress her smooth waist.
Jian Yunong thought to herself, no way, he can't be getting aroused now, can he?
Based on his usual habits, she figured she would starve to death in bed while he exhausted himself.
But Huo Jincheng, who was originally lazy and hoarse, suddenly became serious. "Don't be afraid, I'll be right there."
"What happened?"
Jian Yunong watched as Huo Jincheng quickly jumped out of bed and entered the closet to change clothes. She couldn't help but ask with concern.
"Le Yi isn't feeling well right now; let me take her to the hospital."
Le Yi's home was not far from Huo Jincheng's villa, just two streets away.
Thinking about how Le Yi was currently pregnant with Yi Nansheng's child, Jian Yunong also got out of bed. "Do you need me to go with you?"
Huo Jincheng was buttoning his shirt, and Jian Yunong quickly stepped forward to help him with the remaining buttons.
Huo Jincheng initially wanted to say no, but then he thought that he might not be able to take care of everything alone, so he nodded. "Okay."
Looking down at Jian Yunong as she seriously buttoned his shirt, Huo Jincheng suddenly felt that his little wife had changed compared to before. Now she would actively show concern for him, unlike in the past when she often seemed fearful and apprehensive around him.
Huo Jincheng couldn't help but pull Jian Yunong closer and kissed her gently on the forehead.
The kiss came suddenly and left just as quickly.
Jian Yunong hadn't even reacted when Huo Jincheng had already exited the closet. "I'll wait for you downstairs."
Jian Yunong was stunned for three seconds before quickly changing her clothes and following him down.
Huo Jincheng had already started the car by the time Jian Yunong jumped into the passenger seat.
"Let's grab a bite first."
Huo Jincheng handed her something.
Jian Yunong looked down and was surprised to see a sandwich, still warm, clearly freshly made.
"I was afraid you would faint from hunger later."
Huo Jincheng had quickly made it before coming downstairs.
Jian Yunong couldn't help but smile, "Thank you."
She was really starving, and as she opened it, she suddenly realized something.
Jian Yunong turned her head, "Are you hungry?"
Huo Jincheng, holding the steering wheel, gazed ahead with a serious expression. He had spent the whole day sleeping, and after a hangover, his stomach was empty.
"No need."
There wasn't much of the sandwich; it was probably just enough for Jian Yunong to eat by herself.
After all, the little Daughter-in-law looked small but ate a lot.
At that moment, the traffic light turned red, and the car came to a stop.
Jian Yunong leaned over, "Have some."
She divided the sandwich in half.
Huo Jincheng glanced at Jian Yunong.
"Eat quickly. The light will turn green soon, and we need to start the car."
Jian Yunong urged with a smile, her eyes sparkling like water.
Huo Jincheng felt an incredible softness in a corner of his heart and took a bite of the sandwich from Jian Yunong's hand.
Jian Yunong frowned slightly, seeing him smiling but refusing to take the sandwich himself, her lips pouting slightly. "Just take it yourself."
"I touched the steering wheel; my hands aren't clean."
Huo Jincheng had a mild case of obsessive cleanliness.
Jian Yunong had no choice but to feed him until he finished.
When they arrived at Le Yi's house, Jian Yunong had just hurriedly finished her own sandwich. Seeing Huo Jincheng get out of the car, Jian Yunong jumped out as well.
Le Yi was sitting in the living room, looking unwell.
"Brother..."
Le Yi's voice was weak.
Huo Jincheng walked over and picked her up horizontally, placing her in the back seat of the car, letting Jian Yunong sit with her.
"Don't worry; we'll be at the hospital soon."
Jian Yunong comforted Le Yi, her hand resting on Le Yi's belly, clearly worried about the baby inside and showing great concern for it.
Le Yi was taken into the emergency room for examination.
Jian Yunong stood outside the door waiting, while Le Yi was pregnant. Yi Nansheng, as her husband, should have been there at the first moment.
Huo Jincheng clearly thought the same as Jian Yunong and took out his phone to call Yi Nansheng.
"Where are you right now? Are you abroad? You left Le Yi home alone while she's pregnant?" Huo Jincheng was filled with anger. "Yi Nansheng, Le Yi is in the emergency room now."
Yi Nansheng replied coldly, "Thanks," and hung up the phone.
Huo Jincheng was left with nowhere to vent his anger after being hung up on. Seeing Jian Yunong standing beside him, he couldn't help but say, "How can your ex be this kind of person? His wife is unwell, and he doesn't care at all."
Jian Yunong lowered her eyes and said, "You just called him an ex; what he is like now has nothing to do with me."
Huo Jincheng raised an eyebrow. "So you mean he wasn't like this before?"
"Of course not," Jian Yunong almost blurted out.
Huo Jincheng became interested. "Then what was he like before that made you unable to forget him?"
Jian Yunong didn't catch the dangerous undertone in Huo Jincheng's words and honestly evaluated from her perspective, "He used to be quite considerate and caring; he treated those around him well. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him."
Back then, everyone spoke with envy and jealousy, saying, "Jian Yunong, you're so lucky; Yi Nansheng is such a great man. He's a good boyfriend and will be a great husband and father in the future."
But people change.
If that incident hadn't happened back then...
Jian Yunong might have already married Yi Nansheng and had children.
When they were together, they had even thought of names for their future children.
Everything faded away, becoming blurry.
"Still thinking about it?"
Jian Yunong came back to her senses, and Huo Jincheng was looking at her sideways, exuding a chill.
"Isn't this what you wanted me to say?" Jian Yunong couldn't help but complain softly, feeling quite wronged.
Huo Jincheng coldly snorted, "So you are still thinking about him, right?"
Jian Yunong couldn't help but argue with him, "Why are you like this? Do you want to hear me speak ill of my ex? I've known Yi Nansheng for nearly twenty years."
"Jian Yunong." Huo Jincheng called her name coldly; he didn't want to hear any more.
Jian Yunong turned her face away. "You were the one who brought up this topic first."
Was she still in the right?
Huo Jincheng grabbed her and held her tightly in his arms, tilting her chin and saying, "If I kept talking about my ex in front of you, wouldn't you be unhappy?"
"I wouldn't." Jian Yunong had a confused expression, and her innocent tone made Huo Jincheng furious. "Why would I be unhappy?"
