Jian Yunong blurted out, "Did Big Brother actually say that?"
"You actually know?"
"No..."
Jian Yunong's denial lacked conviction, and Huo Jinge excitedly sat down next to Jian Yunong, as if she had stumbled upon some thrilling gossip.
"Quick, tell me how you found out! Or did you see Big Brother with a woman outside?"
Jian Yunong anxiously glanced around, feeling a bit like a thief. She didn't want to spread rumors, but her mouth was too quick. Huo Jinge tugged at Jian Yunong, acting cute, "Sister San, come on, tell me! Now that Big Brother has brought it up, it's not really a secret anymore."
"I just happened to see Big Brother mention this to Sister-in-law."
"That's it?"
"I don't know anything else. I thought they were just arguing."
Huo Jinge was a bit disappointed, expecting some juicy gossip.
"I think Big Brother and Sister-in-law's marriage has long been a mere formality. Big Brother is often abroad, and he and Sister-in-law hardly see each other. Meeting once a year is just like the story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. What era are we in? They are both young; not seeing each other for long periods can hurt their feelings. I went away for just a week to study a minor subject, and my boyfriend cheated on me. Tsk... men are really heartless."
Huo Jinge, still underage, spoke with an air of maturity.
Jian Yunong was speechless, "How many men have you seen... That's your big brother... Don't say that..."
Huo Jinge pouted, "Sister San, you just got married. You don't know that Big Brother actually isn't..."
Suddenly, Huo Jinge's voice trailed off as she abruptly changed the subject to food, "Sister-in-law, eat more of this. Sister Zhang made it especially well."
Jian Yunong was puzzled by the sudden shift in topic.
At that moment, a commanding voice suddenly rang out.
"Where is Huo Jincheng?"
Huo's mother stood in the living room, holding a bag in her hand, followed by two large secretaries, like guardians behind her.
Jian Yunong almost dropped the chopsticks in her hand from fright. "Huo Jincheng is resting upstairs, Mother-in-law."
Huo's mother withdrew her gaze and headed straight upstairs.
Throughout the entire process, every movement exuded an aura of authority.
Huo Jinge let out a sigh of relief. "You scared me to death. Aunt is truly the most terrifying."
Jian Yunong was also startled, but as an elder, she could only discreetly wipe her sweaty palms. This mother-in-law was really intimidating when she got serious.
"Is she here because of the divorce between Big Brother and Sister-in-law?" Jian Yunong asked.
"I don't know. But Aunt doesn't really interfere with Big Brother's matters. After all, he isn't her biological son."
"Huh?"
Jian Yunong was taken aback. "Big Brother isn't born of Mother-in-law?"
"That's right. Didn't Third Brother tell you?" Huo Jinge lowered her voice. "Big Brother and Third Brother are half-brothers."
Jian Yunong had no idea about this but suddenly understood why Huo Jincheng's attitude towards Huo Liangchen was so cold.
So they weren't biological brothers after all.
Jian Yunong's mind inexplicably conjured up a dramatic scenario of a wealthy family. Could it be that Huo Liangchen was an illegitimate child or something?
She originally wanted to hear more from Huo Jinge, but the little girl only said that much before putting down her chopsticks and going to the restaurant.
Jian Yunong was just about to go upstairs when she saw Sister-in-law Bai Yaoyao coming out of the study.
Bai Yaoyao had red eyes, clearly having cried.
She stood at the door of the study, constantly wiping her tears.
Before she could close the door, the old man's angry voice came from inside, "As long as I am here, the Huo Family has no such rule about divorce."
One could imagine that there would be a storm brewing inside.
Jian Yunong wanted to pretend not to see Bai Yaoyao standing there; this Sister-in-law cared about her pride, so she didn't go over to confront her.
"Can't you see me here? Do you think I'm no longer your Sister-in-law, so you don't take me seriously?" Bai Yaoyao called out to Jian Yunong, scolding her.
Jian Yunong: "..."
What kind of person was Bai Yaoyao?
Caring was wrong, and not caring was also wrong.
Jian Yunong turned around, awkwardly trying to think of something comforting to say. Suddenly, she heard Huo Jincheng's voice behind her, "Nong Nong, come here."
Jian Yunong looked at Bai Yaoyao and then at Huo Jincheng standing not far away, and ultimately decided to walk toward him.
"I'm sorry, Sister-in-law, I have something else to do."
After saying this quickly, Jian Yunong hurried toward Huo Jincheng.
Huo Jincheng pulled Jian Yunong into his arms, his cold gaze emotionlessly landing on Bai Yaoyao. "Don't take your anger out on innocent people. Please show some respect."
Huo Jincheng really disliked the tone Bai Yaoyao had when she spoke to Jian Yunong just now.
Bai Yaoyao felt extremely wronged, almost to the point of vomiting blood, her voice tinged with a sob, "Huo Jincheng... do you think I deserve this right now?"
It was clear that he wasn't the only one who thought so; even Bai Yaoyao herself felt she deserved it.
She thought she could wait for the bitter times to pass and for Huo Liangchen to return to the family, but what was the result?
She had been married to him for three years, seeing him only once or twice a year. He worked in another city while she stayed home to honor her elders, and this was the outcome?
Huo Jincheng did not respond to her; he simply tightened his embrace around Jian Yunong. "Let's go to the hospital to see Le Yi."
With tears blurring her vision, Bai Yaoyao looked at Huo Jincheng's intimate back as he walked with Jian Yunong, feeling as if a knife was stabbing her heart.
All the way, Huo Jincheng remained silent. Jian Yunong sensed that his mood seemed quite poor as well, but she didn't know what to say.
She had not been married into the Huo Family for long. With so many members living together, she hadn't even gotten to know all of them yet. She didn't even realize that Huo Jincheng and Huo Liangchen were not biological brothers.
During a pause at a traffic light, Huo Jincheng spoke up, "How's your knee? Does it still hurt?"
Jian Yunong shook her head. "It hasn't hurt for a long time."
She lowered her head, and Huo Jincheng did not speak again.
Jian Yunong glanced at him several times; his brows seemed to be lightly furrowed in silence.
"How was work today?" Jian Yunong mustered her courage to ask.
"Not bad."
"Oh."
Jian Yunong's first active concern ended in such a dry manner.
Fortunately, they soon arrived at the hospital.
Le Yi was in the ward, having just finished dinner. Upon seeing the couple enter, she smiled and said, "Third Brother, Sister San, I'm really sorry to trouble you both to come to the hospital."
"What are you saying? We're family; there's no need to be polite."
Huo Jincheng asked about Le Yi's health, and she replied that the fetus was developing very well.
When talking about the baby being healthy, a soft glow radiated from Le Yi's face as she lovingly looked at her belly.
"Having a child really makes me feel like my whole life is different," Le Yi sighed.
Huo Jincheng scanned the ward and asked, "Where's Yi Nansheng?"
Le Yi's smile stiffened slightly, but she forced out a few more smiles and pretended to be relaxed as she said, "Oh, he should be busy. The company is in a growth phase right now, so his workload must be quite heavy. He's not a doctor; I have professional nurses taking care of me here, so he doesn't need to come over."
Jian Yunong glanced at Le Yi. If it weren't for knowing that Huo Jincheng had mentioned suspending Yi Nansheng's position at the class reunion yesterday, Jian Yunong might have almost believed Le Yi's lie.
