Jian Yunong wiped her face; it had drizzled a bit on the way here, and she hadn't brought an umbrella, so her hair and face were wet.
Le Yi's gaze suddenly turned towards her, clearly taken aback. "What are you doing here?"
Jian Yunong walked in. "I was passing by, so I came to see you."
Le Yi looked at Jian Yunong's somewhat disheveled appearance. "Why did you come to see me?"
Le Yi seemed quite normal now.
She was a far cry from the person who had been crying and on the verge of emotional collapse just a few months ago.
Jian Yunong's gaze fell on the child in Le Yi's arms, who bore some resemblance to Yi Nansheng. In an instant, Jian Yunong felt a warmth in her eyes and almost wanted to cry!
On the way here, Jian Yunong had searched online for air disaster incidents over the past six months.
It was relatively easy to find, as air disasters were not very frequent; however, each incident resulted in significant losses, which created a perception that flying was unsafe.
Jian Yunong found flight information on an external website; it was an international flight from Nancheng to the United States, and Yi Nansheng's English name was prominently listed.
Huo Jincheng actually didn't need to lie about this matter. At that moment, Jian Yunong felt very calm; she had long since passed the initial shock. Because it was too painful, she now felt like still water with no emotions.
"Can I... hold her?" Jian Yunong cautiously asked.
Le Yi looked at her. Jian Yunong realized that her request seemed abrupt and awkwardly smiled. "I just think this child is really cute, so I wanted to hold her."
"Then if you want to hold a child, just have one yourself." Le Yi's attitude towards Jian Yunong was filled with hostility, showing no courtesy at all.
"So what is this child's name? Is it a boy or a girl?"
"It's a girl. Her name is Lele."
Le Yi lowered her head, the child in her arms had dozed off, slowly closing her eyes to sleep. She made a shushing gesture to Jian Yunong, "Lele needs to rest."
Jian Yunong was perceptive and nodded slightly, not leaving immediately.
Le Yi waited for the child to fall asleep before placing the little one in the cradle. She noticed that Jian Yunong, who had been overlooked for a long time, had not left; she was still standing nearby, her gaze fixed on the sleeping baby.
Le Yi gestured for her to step outside, and Jian Yunong had no choice but to follow her out.
"What are you doing here, Jian Yunong?"
"I just came to see the child."
Le Yi looked at Jian Yunong and felt something was off about her. She scrutinized her from head to toe. "Did you have a fight with my Third Brother? That can't be true; my Third Brother likes you so much. How could he bear to argue with you? You should be grateful that you can marry my Third Brother; don't mess it up."
Jian Yunong looked at Le Yi, "How are you doing now?"
Le Yi felt even more confused. "What do you mean 'how am I doing'? We don't seem that familiar, do we? No need for your concern."
Before Jian Yunong could speak, she was pulled aside. Someone shielded Le Yi behind them; this person was Jian Yunong's acquaintance, the bodyguard assigned to Le Yi by Mrs. Huo.
"Miss Jian."
The bodyguard's eyes held a warning.
"I was just passing by, so I came to take a look." Jian Yunong knew she was not welcome.
"Take her back. I don't want my Third Brother to cause trouble for me later." With that, Le Yi returned to the hospital room and closed the door.
Jian Yunong was taken to the first floor.
"Miss Jian, I hope you will try not to disturb Fourth Young Lady's life in the future."
"She looks like she's doing much better."
"Of course. She has already had the most painful memories erased by a professional hypnotist. Her current memory is stuck at the point of her ex-husband's departure abroad after their divorce."
"I understand. You hope I won't mention Mr. Yi's passing in front of her, so she doesn't relapse and lose her sanity."
"It would be best if Miss Jian could do that. Thank you very much." The tall bodyguard spoke, "Shall I call a car for you to go home?"
Jian Yunong shook her head. "There's no need to trouble yourself. You go ahead and get back to work; I'll call a car to go home later."
After the bodyguard left, a call was made to Huo Jincheng to inform him that Jian Yunong had appeared at the hospital.
Jian Yunong sat in the hospital corridor for a long time until a security guard came over to remind her that it was already eleven o'clock at night.
Jian Yunong lifted her foot to walk outside, feeling completely lost and unsure of where to go.
She waved her hand to hail a cab, and the driver asked her where she wanted to go. Jian Yunong casually mentioned a place.
By the time she came to her senses, the driver had already taken her to the Private Residence of her and Huo Jincheng.
Jian Yunong took a deep breath and paid before getting out of the car.
The house was dark, indicating that Huo Jincheng was probably not home. She felt a huge sense of relief knowing he wasn't there.
After taking a shower, Jian Yunong lay down and buried herself under the covers. The sound of rain outside grew louder, and she lay awake staring at the ceiling until dawn.
She slept fitfully, hearing someone babbling beside her, and felt something tugging at her hair. Slowly opening her eyes, she saw the little hand of Little Fatty pulling at her hair; it turned out to be Little Chubby lying next to her, trying to put her hair into his mouth, drool glistening on his chin.
Jian Yunong quickly picked up Little Fatty, asking, "How did you get here?"
Little Fatty's chubby hand reached for her chest, clearly hungry.
Jian Yunong carried her nephew downstairs, where her aunt was in the kitchen arranging the takeout boxes they had brought over, transferring the food into Jian Yunong's dishes.
Mist Shenshen glanced at her and said, "Hurry up and wash up, we’ll eat soon."
Jian Yunong stood there without moving.
Mist Shenshen stopped and asked, "Are you still mad at me? Didn’t I tell you what happened? Do you think telling you would change anything? Didn’t you see that Le Yi has gone crazy? You’re not exactly the most mentally resilient person; what if your depression flares up again? We’re all concerned about you, and we’re in the wrong?"
Jian Yunong lowered her head as Little Fatty began to nibble on her cheek.
Mist Shenshen walked over and picked up the hungry child. "Nong Nong, your behavior worries me. Go wash your face first, and after breakfast, we’ll have a good talk. Remember, a negative attitude won’t help the situation at all."
Jian Yunong silently went to the bathroom with her head down.
Toothpaste was already squeezed onto the toothbrush.
Jian Yunong thought it was her aunt who did it, let out a heavy sigh, and looked at herself in the mirror. She really didn’t look good—she looked exceptionally bad.
After sleeping for so long, there was no improvement at all.
Breakfast was a Hong Kong-style meal from her favorite tea restaurant. The place was very popular; if you went too late in the morning, you’d have to line up. Her aunt must have gotten up early to buy it.
"As for Yi Nansheng, we were also surprised; it was my request to keep it from you."
