The voice on the phone was very youthful.
It sounded like a child.
Huo Jincheng hung up the phone and saw that the note on the screen was labeled "Baby."
His gaze towards Jian Yunong shifted from anger to gloom.
"Whose child is this?"
Jian Yunong glared at him, "What does it have to do with you? Huo Jincheng, give me back my phone. I have no interest in getting entangled with you here. I also don't want to end up in the newspapers, being judged by others."
Huo Jincheng would never let Jian Yunong go.
He took her downstairs.
Jian Yunong's feet were completely out of her control; under Huo Jincheng's grip, she could only follow him forward.
"Huo Jincheng, let go of me! We can talk this out."
Jian Yunong tried to buy some time.
Huo Jincheng turned a deaf ear.
He couldn't even care about his speech anymore.
Having finally caught Jian Yunong, he had to take her away, immediately and without delay.
"You keep this up and I'll call someone! This isn't back home!"
Jian Yunong was not threatening Huo Jincheng; she was warning him, immediately showing him some attitude.
As she passed by a Black Police Officer, Jian Yunong directly called for help.
Half an hour later, Jian Yunong successfully escaped.
Meanwhile, Huo Jincheng was heading to the police station to explain his actions at the academy earlier and might even face charges. During this time, the entire campus was on high alert.
In the back alley of the police station, a car was already waiting for her.
Jian Yunong quickly got into the car.
"Miss Jian, are you okay?" the driver asked with concern.
"I'm fine."
After that moment of fright, Jian Yunong had calmed down.
The world is neither too big nor too small.
Five years had passed, and Jian Yunong had never truly let go. Today, encountering Huo Jincheng made her feel that unresolved matter weighing on her heart.
It feels like a stone has finally settled.
"Should we notify the people at the police station and force Mr. Huo to leave the country?"
Jian Yunong pondered for a moment, "Forget it. I don't want to escalate things."
The driver glanced at Jian Yunong through the rearview mirror, "The people on that side already know."
"Let them know then."
Jian Yunong frowned slightly, "I've been hiding for five years; I've had enough. I don't want to keep hiding like this."
Without Time's help, Jian Yunong knew that Huo Jincheng would find her soon.
But unexpectedly, it wasn't Huo Jincheng who came knocking first; it was Mist Shenshen.
Mist Shenshen stormed in, "You've grown wings, daring to go missing on me?"
Raising her hand, Jian Yunong thought her aunt would poke her forehead hard, but instead, her aunt fiercely hugged her tightly, so tightly that it made breathing a bit difficult.
Jian Yunong wanted to laugh, but tears streamed down her face first.
"Aunt, I didn't mean to hide it from you."
"So you unintentionally hid it from me? Every year you send gifts back, letting me know you're alive, but I have no idea where you are! Whether you're doing well or not! Did you really think I would be happy?"
Mist Shenshen's eyes turned red as she said, "I don't need your gifts; I want to know if you are doing well."
The returned gifts included a handwritten card. Mist Shenshen recognized her handwriting and knew it was personally written by her.
However, each gift was sent back through special channels, and Mist Shenshen had no idea whether Jian Yunong was in the country or abroad.
The world is so big that finding a woman who deliberately hides her whereabouts is very difficult.
If it weren't for Jian Yunong sending gifts every year, Mist Shenshen might have been extremely worried by now.
"I'm doing great," Jian Yunong smiled at Mist Shenshen, holding her hand to show that she was indeed doing well.
Mist Shenshen carefully examined Jian Yunong, and there were no signs of suffering to be found.
In fact, she seemed even more beautiful than before.
Mist Shenshen felt much more at ease inside.
"What about Little Fatty? Why didn't you bring him along?"
"Why would I bring him? Such a bloody scene isn't suitable for a child to watch."
Jian Yunong chuckled; her aunt probably really wanted to give her a good beating when she arrived.
Mist Shenshen looked around the house's furnishings; the decoration was quite luxurious.
"What is your situation now? Why did you lie to me back then and not come back with me?" Mist Shenshen paused, "What is going on with this house? Is someone helping you behind the scenes?"
"Yes. Someone is helping me."
Jian Yunong smiled, his attitude very open, "Aunt, at that time you should have known that I couldn't go back to Nancheng."
Mist Shenshen became angry at the mention of this, "That's right, if it were me, I would be furious too. Those tabloids are ridiculous. Don't worry, the newspapers that wrote those nonsense back then have all gone out of business now."
The point is, were the paparazzi writing nonsense?
Jian Yunong didn't think so.
But it was meaningless to dwell on these things now.
"Aunt, have you had dinner yet? Let's go out for dinner together. The servant is off today, and there isn't much to eat at home. I'll take you out."
Jian Yunong picked up his coat and linked arms with Mist Shenshen, "I know a really nice French restaurant."
When they went out, Jian Yunong drove. He was familiar with the route and after turning a few blocks, they arrived at the restaurant's entrance.
"You seem very familiar with this place," Mist Shenshen remarked. "I had someone come to Apple City to look for you before, but unfortunately, there was no news at all. How did you manage to evade our tracking?"
"I wasn't hiding. Actually, I spent the last two years focusing on my studies; I'm currently pursuing my doctorate. You know how difficult it is to write a dissertation as a doctoral student. By the time I was about to graduate, I lost a lot of hair, more than I..."
Jian Yunong suddenly paused mid-sentence.
Mist Shenshen cast a questioning glance, "What's wrong?"
"I was really worried that I would go bald during that time, but thankfully, no matter how difficult it was, I got through it and finally graduated with my PhD."
"You lost hair just because of your studies? How did you manage to study while we couldn't find your whereabouts?"
Jian Yunong smiled mysteriously, blinking her eyes, "It's simple, all thanks to the mysterious gentleman behind me. He helped me."
"You and that mysterious gentleman... are together?" Mist Shenshen asked cautiously. "Nong Nong, do you realize that you and Huo Jincheng are still not divorced?"
Mist Shenshen expected to see surprise on Jian Yunong's face, but there was none.
Jian Yunong showed no extra emotions, "Auntie, I've already signed the divorce agreement. Whether I'm divorced or not, I don't care. I'm doing well now."
At least no one is scheming to ruin her life.
"After leaving Huo Jincheng, my heart has been incredibly calm."
Mist Shenshen frowned slightly and lit a candle for Huo Jincheng in her mind.
She could tell that Jian Yunong was not lying; her brows and expression spoke the truth.
If she wasn't telling the truth, it would mean that Jian Yunong had changed significantly over the years, maturing quickly and becoming worldly-wise, with her acting skills improving rapidly.
However, looking at Jian Yunong growing into her twenties, Mist Shenshen believed more in the former.
"I didn't know there would be so much trouble back then... After I went back, I was in therapy for a year and finally regained my ability to speak. Later, I found out that you had gone missing. Then, I argued with Ji Shaoli for a year and with Huo Jincheng for another year."
Mist Shenshen's time during that period was really terrible; it felt like she had to say everything she couldn't express during that year of silence.
"The Huo Family is really excessive..."
"Alright, Auntie, let's talk about something happy."
Jian Yunong interrupted Mist Shenshen's words.
She really had no interest in the Huo Family.
She didn't even want to hear bad things about the Huo Family.
If a person has lost even their hatred, does that mean they have also lost their love?
"Nong Nong, come back to the country with me? Please come back at least once, to visit your mother's grave or something? Little Fatty has been thinking about you as his sister." Mist Shenshen held Jian Yunong's hand. "Are you really not coming to my wedding?"
A hint of emotion finally appeared in Jian Yunong's eyes.
"Wedding? With Ji Shaoli?"
Mist Shenshen nodded and said helplessly, "If I don't get married soon, this man is going to go crazy. I'm really annoyed with him acting like a resentful woman every day. Little Fatty is about to start school too; children need a household registration to go to school, right? Anyway, we live together every day; it's no different from being married, so we might as well just get married."
After saying all these reasons, did she think Jian Yunong wouldn't notice the discomfort in her aunt's voice?
Aunt is just making excuses.
Is there really someone in this world who can force Mist Shenshen to get married?
Actually, she must have finally been moved by Ji Shaoli.
It's enough punishment for someone you love for so many years.
"Okay. I will go."
Jian Yunong is genuinely happy for her aunt, "I want to see how my aunt looks in a wedding dress. My mom will definitely be very happy."
"Then are you coming back to the country with me?"
"Not for now."
"Why?"
Mist Shenshen stared at her, "You don't want to run away again, do you?"
"Aunt, I still have some things to take care of here. I also need to ask for leave from school."
Jian Yunong is currently a teaching assistant at a university.
"Alright." Mist Shenshen said reluctantly, "I'm going to the restroom."
"Turn right at the end of the corridor."
Jian Yunong asked her aunt, "Do you need me to accompany you?"
"No need," Mist Shenshen raised an eyebrow. "I came out from the hotel. Even if you don't tell me where the restroom in this restaurant is, I can find it based on the building's structure and layout. Most importantly, I'm not a three-year-old child, okay?"
Jian Yunong lowered her head to message Baby. When she noticed someone sitting across from her, she thought it was Mist Shenshen returning. However, when she looked up, she realized it was Huo Jincheng.
The smile on Jian Yunong's face instantly vanished.
"Aren't you already blacklisted? How did you manage to get in?"
Huo Jincheng raised an eyebrow, his thin lips cold. "If you can thrive here with a fake identity, I can simply enter without any issues. I'm just learning from you."
Jian Yunong: "..."
Mist Shenshen still hadn't returned.
Jian Yunong understood something.
"Huo Jincheng, does it have to be like this?" Jian Yunong said unhappily. "I don't want to be involved with you again."
