John opened the internal communication system on the ship and said seriously, "All personnel, this is Captain John. There is an important matter that needs to be discussed. Please gather immediately at the strategic table on the bridge. I emphasize, this is very important." After speaking, he turned off the communication device, walked to a small table in the corner, and packed some selected tobacco into his pipe. He lit it, took a deep puff, and felt a momentary pleasure.
Then he slowly walked to the strategic table, scanning the room and waiting for the arrival of the team members. The first to arrive was Karenmu, with steady steps and neat equipment, as always exuding seriousness and loyalty. Upon seeing John, he immediately bowed respectfully.
"Captain, what important matter do you need to discuss with us?" Karenmu asked, his voice filled with respect for faith and duty.
John just smiled slightly, indicating that he would explain, then turned his gaze to the second person entering the room. This was Taktron, holding a smart tablet in his hand, his eyes busy moving back and forth on the screen, seemingly dealing with something important.
"Captain, I am receiving some useful information that could be valuable to us," he said, while still busy with his tablet.
John rolled his eyes, blew a smoke ring, and muttered, "Of course, information is always useful, but right now I need your full attention."
Next, it was a long wait. John impatiently tapped the table, his face growing darker with each passing minute. "That annoying elf, never knowing what she's up to!" he muttered, while puffing on his pipe as if it could make his impatience disappear.
Finally, after nearly an hour, the door slowly opened and Alixia walked in. She appeared unruffled, as if completely unaware of the inconvenience her lateness had caused. She elegantly sat down at the strategy table, giving a slight smile to John and the others.
"Sorry for being late, I had some things to take care of," she said, her voice cold and distant, as if none of it mattered.
John furrowed his brow, his patience wearing thin. "Alixia, we've been waiting here for you for a whole hour. What were you doing all this time? Why did it take so long?"
Alixia lightly touched her star dart gun, a weapon exclusive to the Eldar, extremely deadly. "I'm adjusting my star dart gun. It's a precise process, not something that can be done casually."
John's face became even darker, his dissatisfaction almost turning into raging anger. "Adjusting the gun for an hour? Do you think our time is all for waiting for you?"
Alixia gave a faint smile, but there was a hint of coldness in her expression. "The inferior weapons of humans can't compare to the high-end equipment of the Eldar. Of course, it will take more time to adjust to ensure its effectiveness."
John gritted his teeth, about to explode, but Karenmu suddenly raised her hand.
"Please allow me to interrupt," Karenmu said, "Although I am also human, I have to agree with Alixia. The weapons of the elves are actually works of art. Each one is finely designed and crafted, far beyond the comparison of our 'lumps of iron and gunpowder' weapons."
Alixia nodded slightly, looking satisfied.
Taktron also quickly interjected, "From Tau's perspective, human weapons indeed lack beauty and delicacy. Especially yours, Captain, it really looks more like a representation of functionalism rather than artistic creation."
John looked at the three of them, as if he were an observer, watching their critique of human weapons. He felt a surge of anger, but in the end, this anger was replaced by helplessness.
"Okay, okay," John sighed, "You win. Since you all have such strong opinions about human weapons, I'm curious to see if your 'artifacts' can be of any use in the upcoming battle."
Alixia's expression instantly turned serious. "You will see, human."
Karenmu tightly grips his mechanical weapon, "Our weapons are not just works of art, they are also symbols of our faith. We will use them to ensure that chaos does not corrode this world."
Taktron nods with a smile, "As for me, I will ensure that all devices and communications are flawless."
John slightly furrowed his brow, stood up, and looked around at every face in the room.
"Alright, let's begin the meeting. I'm sure everyone has noticed that the missions for Deathwing Mercenary Corps have been quite scarce lately."
Alixia flipped the star dart gun and sneered, "Isn't it because our captain isn't very good at marketing?"
John's face suddenly turned dark, almost about to explode. But after some thought, he ultimately suppressed his anger. He had to admit, this cold-hearted elf always spoke the truths he didn't want to face.
"Never mind, that's just the temperament of elves," John said slowly. "But the fact is, if we don't find a new mission, the Deathwing Mercenary Corps might starve to death in this forgotten land. Does anyone have any good ideas or suggestions?"
Karenmu looked at John seriously, as if evaluating an important mechanical part. He gently placed his heavy mechanical hand on the table and said solemnly, "If you're interested, the Adeptus Mechanicus has been looking for an Ergonomics Tester. The mortality rate is only eighty percent, and the price for a human would be a bit higher."
John stared at Karenmu's mechanical hand, imagining himself as a half-machine. He looked back at Karenmu's face, briefly fell silent, then smiled slightly and replied, "That's an interesting proposal, but let's consider it later. I'm not ready to become a walking pile of iron just yet."
At that moment, Alixia suddenly spoke up, her tone tinged with playfulness as if she deliberately wanted to break the stiffness of the atmosphere. "Why not become a space pirate instead? 'Deathwing' sounds pretty fierce. Besides, you look like a villain, so why not become a space pirate?" With that, she gracefully stood up, picked up a virtual star dart gun, and mimicked the actions of robbery and swordplay.
John didn't expect this usually cold Eldar female warrior to have such a humorous side. He was amused. He also stood up and imitated the actions of a pirate, even slamming the table, "Haha, in that case, let's go rob a starship! We'll split the loot fifty-fifty, Alixia!"
Alixia smiled slightly and sat back down. "I don't want to share the spoils with a bunch of losers. But this kind of life does sound more interesting than adventuring with you earthlings."
Taktron interrupted at this moment, revealing a barely perceptible smile: "Then I can be the information officer and communications officer. I guarantee that before you complete the robbery, everyone on the ship will receive a mandatory 'Join the Space Pirates' recruitment email."
The atmosphere of the entire mercenary group suddenly relaxed a lot, just in this kind of unlikely but temporarily forgetful fantasy. But they all knew that they were facing a more severe and darker reality. And this brief relaxation and humor might be one of the few consolations they could find in this chaotic world.
