The group that came to demand an explanation was ultimately met by Nie Fengling, who promised to provide them with an answer within a week, allowing them to leave reluctantly.
After they left, Nie Fengling called in the project manager Yu Hou and Green Qi into the office.
Inside the office, Green Qi and Yu Hou sat in front of Nie Fengling's desk, where the architectural design plans for the project were spread out. Nie Fengling leaned back in a serious manner in a black leather swivel chair and said sternly, "Regarding the incident at the Construction Site, people have already come to the company about it. I want to hear your opinions."
The worker glanced at Green Qi before turning back to Nie Fengling and said, "My construction was done strictly according to the design plans. If you don't believe me, the company can send someone to investigate." His meaning was clear; he implied that the issue lay with the blueprints, as he was merely following them and bore no responsibility.
Nie Fengling looked at him before turning to Green Qi and asked, "Director Gu, what is your opinion? Is it an issue with the design plans?"
Green Qi pressed her aching temples and replied, "My opinion is that we must first provide an explanation and accountability to the families of the deceased."
"Accountability?" The worker shot her a glance and scoffed, "Before providing any explanation or accountability, we should clarify who is responsible!"
Green Qi took a deep breath. She didn't want to argue with him or shirk responsibility, but his aggressive attitude—insisting that it was her design plans that were at fault—was quite irritating. She turned to Yu Hou and said emphatically, "If it is my responsibility, then I will not evade it. I will take full accountability and cover any compensation due; I will not drag the company down!" Pointing at the design plans on the desk, she continued, "I can clearly tell you that this design plan regarding the collapsed area was meticulously designed for load-bearing. I believe with your twenty-plus years of construction experience, you know better than I whether there are issues with such a design!"
Yu Hou outright denied it, saying, "I don't know; I'm just following your design plans. As for whether there are any problems, I don't understand." Now that there was an issue, if it wasn't her design plan that was faulty, then it meant there was a problem with his construction work—a responsibility he did not want to bear!
Green Qi didn't bother to argue with him anymore. She turned seriously to Nie Fengling and said, "Vice President Nie, if it is an issue with the design plans, I will take full responsibility!" After saying this, she stood up and left the office.
Once outside Nie Fengling's office, Green Qi felt somewhat agitated and went straight to the restroom. She turned on the faucet on the Countertop and splashed water on her face in an attempt to calm herself down.
It seemed someone had been in the restroom before her; all she could hear was the sound of flushing. Then Yue Qingchen's voice came from behind Green Qi, "Director Gu is worried about this incident?" Along with her words came a tissue that she handed over.
Green Qi looked up, turned off the faucet, and did not take the tissue she offered or say a word.
Yue Qingchen held a lipstick in front of the mirror, pouting her lips and said with a gloating smile, "You really are quite unlucky this time. I advise you to resign before you bring disgrace upon yourself! Otherwise, you might drag the company down with you!" As she spoke, she put the lipstick into her bag and played with her big waves of hair in the mirror, looking charming and pleased with herself.
Green Qi still ignored her provocation, shook off the water from her hands, and turned to leave the restroom.
Yue Qingchen watched her figure disappear at the door, unable to suppress a cold smirk and a disdainful snort, "Let's see how long you can be so pleased with yourself!"
